Thank you so much for bringing this up, Folly, as I have been wondering how to approach this very topic of conversation myself. It has been playing on my mind. I was banded 2/2008 and it was a STRUGGLE to lose the 80 pounds that I did. It took 2.5 years. I worked out like a dog 6 days a week, sometimes more then 2 hours a day. In retrospect I don't know how I managed this but I was obsessed. I became that person who said "If I can do it you can too" (my ego). I forgot that at one point when I was pregnant with my daughter (and very obese) I was trying to walk down the street and a little boy pointed at me from across the road saying "Wow lady you sure are FAT!!". I FORGOT that I was that person. When I was close to goal I was no longer an obese person, in my mind. I was only at my lowest for 2 months. The weight came back on. I will be revising from the band to the RNY on October 5. I don't want to be that person who loses their empathy for those in the same boat. I see thing so much differently now and I think that is because I have gained my weight back. I will not ever, EVER forget the struggles of how it is like living as an obese person (I am making videos to remind myself). In my mind I will forever have to remind myself that, just as in AA, we can be recovering but we are always obese. (I do realize I have 2 different issues going on here - that you for reading!). Seeing others going through their struggles with obesity should, I hope, always remind me of what I have been through. I think it is very bold of you to bring this up in post. Thank you!

Not looking forward to my floppy arms being even floppier when I'm thinner. But I AM looking forward to being thinner! From what I read exercise DOES help with the firming of the skin. I'll be pumping some serious iron!

@@Chelsea Marshall PCOS can also be associated with other medical conditions like Adrenal gland issues, such as what my daughter has, and she is within normal weight. She is only 15 so I don't know what her long term prognosis is in terms of her fertility . I will say that she has to be on birth control just to have periods. It doesn't have to be just a weight problem...are you sure it is weight related?

I am hoping to find a good support group within bariatricpal.com. After I got the band I just dropped out of communicating with anyone because I thought I was home clear. So when i had those really hard times when I needed support I didn't have it. Would anyone be interested in forming an October, 2015 gastric bypass support group on this site? I think there needs to be at least 3 people interested to form a support group. Anyone?

My SO and I have talked extensively and he supports me 100% in this process of getting surgery (lap band to bypass). He met me when I was bigger because he is attracted to bigger women. But he says he fell in love with me and not the way my body looks. I believe him fully. Will he be attracted to me once I lose my weight? I don't know. And if not, will love (without sexual attraction) be enough to keep us together? What people say they want and what people truly feel don't always equal up. And we will continue to be able to communicate with each other our needs and wants. I realize I am taking a chance on losing him. He does speak positively about how much more we will be able to do together because I'll be smaller. And how I will be so much healthier and he won't lose me at a younger age. He says this is so much more important then me being bigger. And that feels great to hear him say that! Ultimately, OUR bodies are only OURS and no matter what happens in our relationships, no matter who we love and who loves us, we will be with ourselves for the rest of our lives. We owe it to ourselves to be the healthiest people we can be.

@@395Ron I think we all should have a good, safe, and healthy place to go while on a liquid diet so we don't subject out families to our crazy, food deprived selves LOL. I have NO IDEA how long my liquid diet is suppose to be as my class isn't until September 23. My surgery is on October 5 so it can't be more then a week or so. Good luck and keep us posted!

I am going through the same fears...esp. how life will be afterwards. But I'm afraid of how life will be if I DON'T have the surgery! So forward I go...

My seamstress will be working with me as she doesn't want me to worry about not having a dress at the last minute.

My seamstress says she will work with me because she doesn't want me to have to worry about a dress last minute. That's good.

Not to mention the time needed to do serious alterations.

It isn't uncommon for someone to discover or "admit" to their sexuality later in life, even to themselves. A good friend of mine came out (to herself and to society) after her children were adults.

Even my own trainer didn't make that kind of comment when I packed on 5 pounds!

Are you dehydrated? Are you able to drink enough?

October 5 for me! I believe I will only have a week of pre-op liquid diet, but then another 1-2 weeks post-op liquid diet. I will know for sure on September 23. I am a revision from band to RNY. I was denied last year and just approved. Yahoo! I can't believe this is happening!
