  5. Hi Everyone! I'm just getting started and I am hoping to get the gastric bypass surgery. I have been unable to control my weight since I was in a motorcycle accident in 1998 because I am unable to exercise. My left leg was basically crushed, I broke my pelvis and was left with back and hip problems. Over the years I have gained a lot of weight and I'm in pain every day. I also have developed high blood pressure which runs in my family. My father passed away when he was 59 years old from having high blood pressure and being over weight. I'm going to be 52 years old this year so I am getting really concerned that I will pass early like him. I have three grown children, two granddaughters and one grandbaby on the way. I have a lot to live for so I really need to do something about by health. Recently my PCP told me that if my blood pressure does not go down, I will need to be put on medication. I already take medications for pain so I don't want to take even more medication. I am hoping that the bypass will help me to manage my weight at last. I am going to the seminar on Monday and I am getting very excited! I just thought I would say hi and wish everyone the best while you are on the same journey as me.

  9. That sure would be nice for the insurance companies to start waving the waiting period on a case-to-case basis. I'm getting started again because I was scheduled for WLS in 2008 but because I developed an infection in the hardware in my leg I had to have two surgeries for that and could not have the gastric bypass surgery. Now I am ready again but since it's been a long time period since I tried before I have to start all over again. I feel like a ticking time bomb sometimes and it gets scary. I wish I could have the waiting period waved so I don't have to feel this way anymore and just have the surgery and get it over with. Please post if anything changes and thank you for sharing your experience. Best wishes for your journey!
  10. I haven't gotten as far as you so sorry I can't help with your questions but I wanted to say congratulations and best wishes for a smooth surgery and a quick recovery!!

  12. Please don't give up now, can you imagine that the day of surgery you get all prepped and get into the operating room and get put to sleep and when the doctor goes to operate he opens you up and the liver is too swollen to do the surgery so they stitch you closed and when you wake up they tell you that they could not do it and you'll have to come back. OMG what a nightmare that would be!! You CAN do this, you've done everything else so think of how far you have come. That is proof of how strong you actually are! Back in 2008 I went thru everything and just when I was to start the 2 week pre-op diet I got an infection in my leg that lead to two surgeries and I could not have the bypass. Now I am starting all over again and how I wish I was where you're at now. Please post again if you get frustrated, we will support you, that's what we're here for, to help each other out

  16. Hi Dawn! Thank you so much for your post. Sounds like quite the roller coaster ride but I am ready! Like you said it took longer for me to gain the weight than what it takes to get to the end of the ride but it will all be worth it in the end. I wish you all the best and please keep me posted on your progress!

  18. Hi, I'm new and from Connecticut (southwest shoreline area) and was wondering if there is anyone here from my area? I am just getting started, I go to the seminar on April 21st and then will be going through all the pre-op appointments and tests. I am looking for online support as well so if anyone would like to friend me please do!
