    Dr. Alan Geiss

Is anyone else concerned with all the changes at Syosset Hospital? First Dr. Powers left last summer, so I switched back to Dr. Geiss (who performed my LapBand surgery, but Dr. Powers had been my main doctor after I needed to have my gallbladder removed post-LapBand). On my last visit they told me that Dr. Geiss would no longer be seeing patients, but I read in this thread that he is moving to North Shore Hospital instead? I called to change my upcoming appointment today, and was told that all the PA's are gone and Dr. Geiss's patients would now be seen by Dr. Alison Barrett (whom I've never met).

5 yrs out - finally back on track

I'm in a similar situation. I'm 6+ years out, but was unfilled for over 3 years due to various other problems. I lost close to 100 pounds in the first year and a half, started experiencing other issues after fills -- finally resulting in having my gallbladder removed in Summer 2012; and I'm only down about 20 pounds since. This year, I'm determined to get back on track.

    Jewish Food

Has anyone tried matzoh brei? Matzoh's ok for me -- and eggs are ok; so... maybe??

    Ice Cream of Frozen Yogurt

I wasn't allowed ice cream until I went onto solid foods (6 weeks after surgery), and even then I only eat fat-free and sugar-free, so unless approved by your doctor or nutritionist, my advice would be to try something else. When my throat hurt, I found that sugar-free ice pops or Italian ices did the trick for me.

    Morning Protein

Have you tried different Protein drinks? My nutritionist recommended MediFast which I had no problems with pre-surgery, but struggled like you described afterwards. I switched to Muscle Milk Light, with her approval, and felt fine. The SF Carnation Instant Breakfast also was very good for me in the mornings.

    Jewish Food

I've had both kinds without problem. Just make sure that you have more soup than matzoh ball, and that you chew the firmer matzoh ball really well.

Does anyone know if a matzoh ball (in soup) would cause a problem? I'm still on mushies -- maybe not at this stage?

    Has anyone taken up Bycyling?

I got the 2008 Giant Sedona. It's an aluminum frame, and I know people here said to go for a steel frame but the owner of the bike shop said that it would be durable enough for my needs.

    Has anyone taken up Bycyling?

I want to thank everyone who added their tips for finding a bike last week (it's about 10 pages back now!) -- I went to my local bike shop today and bought a Giant. The owner personally helped me for over an hour, listened to what kind of riding I would be doing, and assisted in selecting one that was right for me without pressuring me into more expensive bikes or accessories. I took a quick ride on it today, and I was a little unsteady (it's probably been 17 years since I've been on a bike) -- but I plan on riding a few miles tomorrow. Thanks again everyone!

    Has anyone taken up Bycyling?

I want to ride a bike, but I fear that none will support 360 pounds. Can someone recommend one that wouldn't cost a small fortune?

Post Op Diet Journal - Phase 1

Hi everyone, I'm on day two of my Phase 1 diet ("full liquids") and can't tolerate anywhere near the daily goals set up by my nutritionist. 3-4 oz. of Protein shake per day has made me feel worse than any heartburn or indigestion that I've had in my life. That's well short of the 32 ounces that I'm supposed to have per day. I have an e-mail in to my nutritionist to see if there's something I should do differently.
  13. Hi everyone, I just found this site today. I was banded on 8/29 (3 days ago) by Dr. Alan Geiss in Syosset, NY. I am feeling pretty good right now -- a little bit sore, but no terrible pain. This morning was a little bit rough, however, since its my first day back on "full liquids". I had about 5 oz. of Medifast and had a terrible feeling of being overfull. It took about 20 minutes and a lot of walking for it to pass, and now I'm a little scared to try it again. According to my nutritionist, I am supposed to have four 8-oz portions of Medifast per day for the next two weeks. Has anyone else run into a similar problem -- is it just because it's the first non-clear liquid (water, juice, broth, Italian ice, jell-o) that I've had in three days?
