  1. stay busy during your liquids, do and eat only what your dr. permits you to... and keep your mind on the big picture down the road... cuz everyone told me to keep my eyes on the prize and that's the truth!!!!!
  2. it's day 2 and i'm still tired. today i was more sore on my sides than before. i'm trying to get the 60 gr protein in. i still haven't been hungry. dr. fontana's office will be doing my fills. that's in 6 wks or so.
  3. i was on clear liquids for 10 days before surgery. my liver shrunk like he wanted it to and he didn't have any problems getting to what he had to get to. it was worth it. after 3 days or so i got so used to it i was ok with it. i also thought it was great to do that to prepare for eating habits after surgery.
  4. I am in Va Beach. I had Dr. Mark Fontana of the Norfolk Surgical Group. He has done many many of these surgeries and he has a great track record. He was very encouraging of my success with the 10 day clear liquid diet. I asked him at my physical if he ever gets tired of this... and he said NOOOO it's so gratifying to see each person's metamorphosis! i'm morphing as i type :bounce::clap2::whoo:
  5. i wasn't afraid at all. i was anxious to get to the next phase! i had the best of care from the drs. and staff. i would definitely do it all over again. now i'm excited to get down to business!
  6. today is my day after so i see what i have to look forward to...
  7. my surgery was yesterday. i came home today. hubby is here but i haven't really needed his help for anything. he has a meeting tomorrow morning and we both agree i'll be fine.
  8. it sure is!!!! i came home today from the hospital. everything went as well as it could have the dr. said. now im just tired all the time. trying to walk and sip and rest.
  9. i got banded yesterday and got home about an hr ago. i am tired but other than that i feel GREAT. i haven't felt any pain.
  10. i had my band yesterday and am home now since an hr ago. i feel great. just tired. i haven't had any pain yet... which surprised me. the surgeon told me that everything went reallly well no problems and today i had the leak test and got to see the band. it was cool watching the liquid barium go down and follow the trail. he said perfect! so i go back to him next week. i'm on a full liquid diet for one more week next week i'll get soft foods. The nurses were wonderful. i was the only patient last night and the 3 of them liked that.
  11. you sound just like me. i could have typed that. i hope you are doing well and are feeling better soon! my day is tomorrow... and i just had 2 sugarfree popcicles. this liquid diet has been a test. i'm glad we both passed.
  12. TOMORROW TOMORROW IT'S ONLY LESS THAN A DAY AWAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY :clap2::bounce::whoo:
  13. my surgery date is TOMORROW! i went with Norfolk Surgical Group & Dr. Mark Fontana. Bariatric Surgeon Profile - Mark Fontana, M.D. F.A.C.S.
  14. my pick of those 3 would be the first one with your family... but i agree you should do one the night or day before by yourself, and wear similar clothing for your after pic later on.
  15. hubby and i are swimming for a half hr every other day at our local rec center. we pay $55 apiece per yr. and i would definitely complain if that happened where we go. i don't care how much or how little you pay that's just not even close to being acceptable. YUCK! i'm being banded this coming thursday and have been trying to find out how long it will be before i can swim again. i love this thread.
  16. i'm having my surgery in a few days so this thread is really helpful to me. i asked my nutritionist about using a sippy cup and she said no since we're not supposed to use a straw and she likened it to sucking on a straw. i have a question: how long before I can swim? my dr. said not to submerge in water and i forgot to ask how long. i can ask him on thursday i guess but i thought y'all might know. it's interesting to read everyone's experiences. today is day #6 of the liquid diet for me. i can't wait to be able to have some food. lol i know it's going to be a while. i'm ok til i smell someone cooking something wonderful. when i go walking is when i usually smell it.
  17. i'm having mine next thursday, sept 6 and i'm really excited to get going!
  18. (((((((((((((mermaidpuppy)))))))))))) you aren't hurt and no one else was in the accident so keep on movin' on! i'm rootin for you!
  19. that is very true! i have read where some patients have felt like they were done a disservice by their dr. for not having them on the liquid diet before surgery. i think it's a great way to get used to it... today is day #4 and i still feel a little bit hungry but i'm hanging in there. i'm not so sensitive about others eating around me anymore either. i'm going to totally appreciate it when i can have more than liquids! :hungry::ranger:
  20. that makes perfect sense i just thought they wouldn't want me letting loose while i'm under anesthesia...
  21. I got a letter from my surgeon's office that said his nurse would talk to me about bowel prep when i went in this past tues for my last appt. well she didn't and he did'nt and i forgot to ask... i reread my letter yesterday and saw that part and called the office and was told that there is no bowel prep for lapband surgery... i'm shocked. it doesn't seem right...is it???
  22. i have lost 4 or 5# already on the preop liquid diet. i began this journey in february. it's taken me a while longer than most because of all the testing i had to have. but everyone tells me the end result is worth it, so i plugged along. i want to be healthier. i'm going to get there too.
  23. they say that gastric bypass patients are the healthiest patients there are because of all the pretesting we endure. i began my hoops in february... it got discouraging sometimes, but hang in there cuz i thought sometimes that they wanted to know who is serious about it and who isn't.
  24. thanks! there is a ton of information here and i need it!
