Intro - gastric sleeve in August
@@LeeBee17 I too am 5'4" inches and am scheduled for VSG on August 4. I chose the VSG because even though it is permanent, it does not involve rearranging the intestines. Another reason I chose it is because my current weight is 244 and 100 lbs is about all I need/want to lose and much of the research I did stated that this is line with VSG results.

To the folks who had their surgery in the US and comment on the Mexico forum...
Thank you for your post-I really appreciate it! Full disclosure, I am scheduled for surgery in Puerta Vallerta in August of this year and have (and continue) to research the facility and doctor. I am comfortable with my choice and am looking forward to my visit. I read a recent post about a particular individual's Mexico experience and I absolutely agonized about whether to respond or not. I decided against responding, because I didn't want to seem as if I was "attacking" the person or belittling her experience if I asked questions or expressed my viewpoint. What happended to this indivdual happened to her and while of course, I have questions and would like additional facts, I think it is important to try to understand her situation without making assumptions or passing judgement. In an open forum such as this it is dangerous to post generalizations/ambigious details about specific situations so I try to read and respond at "face value". The decision to undergo WLS is not one that I believe is reached easily by any of us; for many us, deciding to seek care outside of the United States adds another layer to the decision making processing. In order to be well informed, I believe that I need to hear both successful and nonsuccessful experiences, but with that in mind I also need to remember that each of us is a unique individual with our own set of circustances and one person's journey may not be my journey.

Tijuana Or Puerto Vallarta?
I chose Dr. Lopez in Puerto Vallerta. I've always wanted to visit Puerto Vallerta and after reseaching the doctor and the new hospital there, made the decision. I like that the facility is an actual hospital and has a dedicated bariatric surgical center. Dr. Lopez has performed a significant number of surgeries and seems to be well versed in his craft. This site, http://www.mexicobariatriccenter.com/., as well as his personal site provided information on his credentials.

Are you open or private about surgery and why?
First off, congratulations on your success!!! My surgery is scheduled for August 4 and I have told people that I am planning to do it. While, not the most "public" of a person, I don't mind sharing this piece of news. Most of the folks I've told have seen me struggle through my weight issues and many diet plans. I share with them that I didn't come to this decision lightly and feel that long term it is the best option for me.I figure this time they will get to witness my success. Now, I believe that we can't and shouldn't share with everybody (Negative Nellies and Badmouth Billies). That said, we can't control nor are we responsible for other's reactions and thoughts, if you find someone you want to share with and feel comfortable doing so, I say go for it. It can help someone to know your journey.

What did you tell people at work?
My surgery is scheduled for August 4th and I have told people on my job about my decision. I am comforable with my choice and resolute so no one's ideas/comments are going to affect my decision. I do understand that it is a personal decison and not everyone will want to share such personal information, nor should they feel they have to. My coworkers have seen me struggle with my weight through all of my dieting attempts (Optifast, Nutrisystem, Proti Diet, etc); after August, they'll get to see me succeed with my sleeve surgery.
