Cheating the consultation scale...
I've read time and time again how some of us have had to resort to gaining an extra 5-10lbs in order to reach our bmi for insurance requirements. Maybe one day insurance companies will open their eyes and see just how much changes need to be made to their policy for wls approval...but until then let's share our ways of cheating the consultation scale. My bmi is directly borderline, my consultation is March 13th. So yes I may need a way to grab an extra 3-5lbs by then....

Seeking Buddies 5'2" & Under
I'm 4'11 and 200 lbs have not had surgery yet, go for my consult on the 13th of March And From there I'll know what's what. My goal would be 135-140 though that's considered over weight for our height. Just can't see myself at 125lbs :-) maybe it is possible.

Should I check for comorbidities before consultation?
Wow that's bs, smh I know my insurance definitely does not ask that of its patients. This is the frustrating part but we will get through.

I did they explained it to me, but I think it's always different when you hear it from someone who personally maneuvered the system. That's valuable information

Should I check for comorbidities before consultation?
So so true I already put $ aside in a surgery savings account specifically for this; and just in case my jobs try to not give me temp disability. With my job I will Def need to stay out the max amount of time

insurance question. ..
Thank you Ally that's very in formative though I'll admit I'm still bewildered. I know my insurance said my out of pocket cost is a total of $1,550 once that's met they pay 100%...Guess I'm just going to have to go through the insurance process to get a full understanding of it. Did my research and ask my Dr which insurance would be best to work with which is why I choose Amerihealth. I will read and re read your post until I under better.

insurance question. ..
My insurance is Amerihealth NJ I have a total deductible of $1,550. My question is after going to all the specialist for pre op appointments what if I only accumulate maybe $600 in their fees. Will the surgeon or my insurance just bill me for the balance of my deduct. I know was I reach full out of pocket cost $1,550 my insurance covers 100%. Anyone knows

Should I check for comorbidities before consultation?
Ok, so my consultation is on the 13th of March with Dr.Neff. My bmi is exactly at the borderline, 4'11 and 199lbs. Of course my fear is my bmi dropping one pound under. So was wondering should I just go ahead and do my blood work now to test for diabetes, and do a sleep study test all before my consultation? ...Guess I'm just a tad bit to say the least anxious, worried, and scared not of surgery but of denial of surgery.

my 600 lb life on TLC
That's true the last episode I saw I belive was Jason's story and he was definitely inspiring. Lost his father and sister to obesity, didn't want to be next and leave his mother alone on this earyh. He was a true inspiration found love in the end and I truly applaud Summer the lady he fell in love with post surgery for accept him as he was.

Please advice needed surgery and adoption. ..
Thank you I am honestly taking everyone's advice into serious consideration. My 13 year old is so excited, another concern I know I will have out of pocket cost for the surgery. Think my final decision will come as to which is done first, because they are both literally starting within the same month...

Please advice needed surgery and adoption. ..
Ok try to keep it simple and quick. I'm at the pre dawn stages of setting up for surgery go to my consultation next month, if the insurance people have done their part my then. I'm also in the pre dawn stages of an adoption with a little girl from my island (Commonwealth of Dominica). My question is this should I hold off on surgery until after the adoption? I have this gut feeling the baby and surgery will be around the same month.

I am truly at the pre-dawn stage...
- I am truly at the pre-dawn stage...
I thought if you were not at least 40+ BMI then you had to have at least one comorbidity for lower BMI?- I am truly at the pre-dawn stage...
Thank you, I'm super nervous about my consult and I'm scale obsessed to make sure I don't lose a pound. People around say "o you're not fat just chunky!" Excuse me but to me it's the same thing. 4'11 and 200 lbs size 16/18 bottoms and xl/1x tops is nowhere near my ideal. Just tapping my feet doing my consultation count down :-)- I am truly at the pre-dawn stage...
See I'm literally at the border line at 200 lbs. Nurse said do not lose anything until my consult lol first time in my life I'm trying to keep weight on! I would love to be 140 that's my ideal though I know the bmi wants us at 125 lol can't see myself 125 either lol - I am truly at the pre-dawn stage...
