  1. Becky: A very jealous Massachusetts plastic-surgery-wanna-be wishes you a quick recovery and a very flat tummy! Take care. Sue
  2. Lisa: How's it going? Hope it's going good. I'm kind of stalled, but that seems to happen alot now that I've already lost over 100. Drop me a line when you have a few minutes. Take care. Sue
  3. Mag: How's it going? Hope things are going better than last week. Drop me a line when you have a few minutes. Take care. Sue
  4. Hi Liz: Are you eating solids yet? Please make sure you eat enough and take Vitamins too or else you'll be exhausted. You might be extra tired while you're healing and especially because you're fighting that infection. How's the weight loss going? Mine's kind of stuck so far this week, but to be honest earlier this week when it was close to 100 I didn't exercise much. Hope things are going well for you. Keep me posted. Sue
  5. Heidi: I recommend that you take a look at my surgeon's website. It is glasgowandglasgow.com They are in Norwood and they are terrific. I know that they've banded people who aren't 100 pounds overweight because I've met them at our support group. Check it out and go to a seminar to get informed on the procedure, etc. Glasgow and Glasgow have free seminars and support group. There might be a waiting list for the seminar, I'm not sure. Good luck. I love my band! Sue
  6. Cheri52: I go to the Glasgows in Norwood. They're great over there. Keep up the good work. Sue
  7. Showing the boys your slime is just too funny! An 8 or 9 year old boy would love slime. If I showed my Daughter she'd probably move out, or send me to the nut house! Great laughs on this thread. Sue
  8. Kim: I don't go to Lahey, but the rules are probably the same everywhere. We were told to eat light on the day of a fill. Then after the fill just liquids first 24 hours, then mushies for 24 hours after that, then solids after that. Good luck. Sue
  9. Hi Liz: Glad to hear your infection is getting under control. Hard not to swim when it's so hot in New England. I live at a cooperative (somewhere between an apartment and a condominium) that has a beautiful pool. I spent the day there. A trikke is a cool exercise thing. If you google it you should be able to see how it works. It's kind of hard to explain, but it's alot of fun and it burns some serious calories, especially in this heat. I got caught out on my trikke earlier this evening when it started pouring, thundering, and lightning. Unfortunately the brakes won't work when they're wet so I had to wait the passing storm and then walk home with my trikke. Hope you can enjoy Maine without swimming. Take care. Sue
  10. Hi: If you've got acid reflux skip the lemon Water. Lemon has too much acid and will only aggravate the situation. Sounds like you've recognized your weaknesses and hopefully you're ready to be a "good" bandster again. Best wishes to you for attaining your goals. Sue
  11. Mag: I got into a bit of a funk right after surgery too. Part of it was that I gained 9 pounds in the first 3 days post op. I'm sure that it was Fluid retention, but I didn't expect it so it really bothered me. It came off in the next week or so. If you are depressed you should get some help. I think it's very important to have your mind in a good spot because it's still such a battle to get the weight off, even with the band. Did the Glasgows have you meet Dr. Newman? He's a psychologist. You could probably schedule an appointment with him if you don't have someone already that could help with depression. When I first started I had to think about one pound at a time, not the whole picture. For me it would have been too overwhelming to think about having to lose 164 pounds to attain goal, but here I am just 31 pounds away as of today. You know, you're not expected to lose until you've got restriction. Anything you lose prior to having restriction is a bonus. So, don't be hard on yourself. Another thing, about being exhausted. I was too. Make sure you keep taking your daily Multivitamin because that will help. Do you have an MP3 player? It was one of the best rewards I gave myself after losing 50 pounds. I put some great music on it and I walk alot. I think it helps with the depression too. Love your avitar. My Daughter is a huge Lucy fan. Take care. Sue
  12. Hi MaryAnn: You must have gone to the Glasgows if you had surgery at Norwood. Dr. Adam Glasgow was my surgeon. I think they're great over there. I don't know where Dudley is, but I'm guessing it's out by Uxbridge. I live in Norwood. Tell me, what are you having a hard time with? I think that the ten days after surgery were difficult, because as soon as you start to heal from the surgery you start to get hungry, but can only have liquids. Stick it out and you'll be eating mushies soon. Mashed potatoes - yummmy. Popsicles have saved my life. I go through a box in a very short period of time. But hey, at only ten to twenty calories who cares. Let me know if there's anything in particular you are struggling with. Then, maybe I can be more specific. Feel free to send me a private message if you'd like for not everyone to be able to read your post. Either way is okay with me. You should try to attend the support groups that the Glasgows hold in their offices. You can learn some tricks by listening to those who've been banded for a while. Take care. Sue
  13. Lisa: Sure, the more the merrier. I think that the most difficulty that I had with starting regular foods was that I am a fast eater. If I ate fast I could only get about three or four bites in and then pain. I ended up buying a one minute timer to slow me down between bites. You have to eat slow and tiny bites. It works best if you chew it until it's like liquid going down. Another issue that I had at the beginning was that sometimes I would let myself get too hungry. If you eat your meals at regular times throughout the day it worked better for me. I still have an issue if I have lunch at noon and then no dinner until 6 or 7. I do much better if I have yogurt or something like that around 4 o'clock so that I'm not hungry at night. Most times I'm not. Congratulations on all of the weight you've lost so far. You're doing very well! Keep up the good work. Sue
  14. Lisa: I think that if you think about the odds it might help you to be less scared. The odds are very low that you'll have complications from Lap Band surgery. The odds are much higher that if you are obese, or even morbidly obese that you'll have more problems by not having the surgery. Don't be scared. Good luck. Sue
  15. KayBee: You're probably at the hospital already. I hope everything went smoothly. Drop us a line when you're feeling up to it. Remember, relax, drink lots of fluids and try to get up walking to get rid of the gas from the surgery. Take care. Sue
  16. Hi Liz: Hope that your infection turns out okay. Holland is a beautiful name. My Daughter's name is Katrina. Mushie stage is hard, but not as hard as the all liquid phase. With the temperature going to be high this weekend make sure you stock up on some sugar free popsicles. I love the one's called Life Savers - delish! Keep me posted on your infection at the port site. Take care. Sue
  17. Teri: That was so funny! It reminded me of how I sometimes cannot remember if I rinsed out the conditioner in my hair or not when I shower in the morning. I'm not so bright sometimes in the morning! A couple of weeks ago I went to work with my new shirt on inside out! I had kept trying it on and didn't want to wear it a few times because it was still too tight, but I finally decided to wear it. Fortunately hardly anyone saw me, but someone did notice. She said something like "That's a cute new shirt, but you know it's on inside out, don't you?" How embarassing! We can all be silly gooses sometimes. Take care, and thanks for the laugh. Sue
  18. Hi Hollandsmom: I will be your band buddy/mentor. I live in Norwood. I was banded last July. I started dieting on 4/23/07 at 324 pounds - (Yikes!) and today I weigh 192. Yippee. I started in size 26/28 and I now wear 16's and L on top. My goal is to get into size 12 pants. I'm hoping that I will be in that size when I get to 160 pounds. I'm 5'7" so I don't want to have my weight go too low. I don't want to look like a wrinkly old string bean! I love my band. I could never have lost all of this without the band. I've been exercising alot this year too. I'm 48 years old. I feel like I"m 28 because of all of the lost weight! I am the Mom of a great 20 year old Daughter. She's in college, but she comes home every weekend. I work full time as an accountant. I walk and trikke for exercise. I play cards too. I got my band in Norwood. Dr. Adam Glasgow was my surgeon and continues to be one of my biggest supporters. He is in practice with his Dad and they're both great. They have monthly lap band support group meetings for their patients. They have a very nice program over there. Even the office staff in their group is pleasant to work with. Feel free to ask any questions. I'd love to be able to help someone through this experience.
  19. Hi Oceangal: I would love to be your band buddy/mentor. I was banded in July 2007, but to be prepared I started dieting in April 2007. I'm down 132 pounds - yippee! On the personal side, I am the Mom of a wonderful 20 year old (in 23 days she'll be 21, not yet) Daughter. I'm 48 years old. However, I feel like I'm 28 again because of losing all of the weight. I was married for 20 years, but divorced 4 years ago. I work full time, and play part time. I had been walking for all of my exercise until a few months ago when I bought a trikke. I love my trikke. I love my band. I never could have done it without my band (my belly cop). I go to a great surgical group. They have support group once a month and they're really wonderful over there. Skillful, caring, and the office is run very efficiently. It's a very friendly place too! I'd love to answer any questions that you have. Seeing that you're in Amherst and I'm in Norwood we'll probably never meet, but we could still be band buddies. I hope that you get your surgery date soon. Please ask any questions and I'll be glad to answer. Take care. Sue
  20. crazycatlady: I have a 4cc band too. I started at 324 lbs. My doctor used to use the 4cc and the larger size too and they would usually use the smaller band on women and the larger band on men. Now they use the larger one on everyone because they had three people in one month that the 4cc band was too tight on and they had to reoperate on those three people. Good luck. Sue
  21. Hi Wicked: I had a complete hysterectomy too. When they analyzed the tissues they discovered that I had adenomyosis too. The lapband is working for me. I've gone from size 26/28, 324 pounds down to size 16 and 192 pounds in 13 months. I started dieting 4/23/07 and was banded 7/26/07. I've still got 32 pounds to goal or whatever it takes to get to a size 12. Good luck to you. Sue
  22. Berry: Sounds like you had a very bad "stuck" incident. I recommend that you call your doctor and see if they want you to have a barium swallow. I hope you feel better soon. Sue
  23. Hi: I'm not sure when you were banded, but you need to make sure you start getting more calories in. It says that you're here in New England and I am too. With the warmer weather coming it's also very important to drink more. Talk with your doctor about a plan for your nutritional goals. You don't want to starve yourself because it will make you ill, bald, and could hurt your system. Please get some help and guidance from an expert. Don't be afraid to have what you need to have as the weight will come off. Another issue with not getting enough calories is that you will start to get exhausted all the time. Don't forget your daily Vitamins too (probably liquid for now). Take care. Sue
  24. alv: Make sure you eat enough to get the nutrients that your body requires. You don't want to be getting sick and going bald because you're limiting your calories too much. You should speak with your doctor and/or a nutritionist to see what the lower end of the requirements for your health and make sure you meet those daily requirements. Take care and be healthy. Sue
  25. Cindy: Congratulations to a fellow Massachusetts bandster for hitting the 100 pound mark. You go girl! Sue
