  4. Hi.. how did you decide to have this Mexican surgeon do your procedure ?Were you able to check his medical training....? I was going to go to Mexico however, I decided to find a surgeon in my area instead......I had to go through several pre op testing to prepare for the surgery.....I had mine done in New York at a large training hospital....... wishing you lots of good health and success in your journey......

    Best complications

I am still very ill.....in and out of the ER...the doctors there keep giving me Lyrica and tramadol and gababentin.....and nothing of that ilk has helped....I have lost 146 pounds in a year.....I had a CAT SCAN in the ER and it showed that I have some ASCITES and an enlarged spleen and enlarged lymph nodes....I suppose that there is some sort of infection post op....I will have to see a gastroenterologist...so disappointed by the medical care at Columbia Presbyatarian Hospital and Mount Sinai Hospital in NYC....the independent neurologist that I had seen was horrible....I saw another horrible one today and they have not addressed my severe pain in my feet and legs.......anyone ever experience these things ?
  7. I am having severe and intractable pain in my legs and feet and hands.....since the surgery 11 months ago.....I had the surgery at mt. sinai hospital with dr. herron.......anyone ever suffer any of these symptoms ? I also have mal absorbtion..........
  8. Has anyone experienced severe and intractable pain in the feet and legs...a peripheral neuropathy ? And, a mal absorbsion issue after the vsg ?I have been suffering for 11 months.........??
  9. I hope that you get to feel better.....I have had the same symptoms.. it is important to get the important proteins and fruits into your eating plan.....I bought a nutribullet and put some spinach and fruits and a little juice and protein powder in....and try to have this several times a week..... it might be a good idea to consult with a nutricionist who handles these post bariatric surgical cases...... all the best......always...

sick and they cant find anything

Take care to yourself......perhaps, you should see another physician,,,? Perhaps, a cardiologist....to see why you are fainting ?How are you vitamin levels....?Are you able to eat enough....?you need to keep hydrating......with fluids.....stay well and all the best,,,,,,

sick and they cant find anything

btw: DO NOT let them think that you have emotional issues and disregard your clear medical symptoms......it must be coming from somewhere.........they tried to do that in the ER with me......I found a physician who understood what was going on.......the ER doctors are residents and poorly trained working in a hectic environment........best of luck....

sick and they cant find anything

I hope that you get to feel better soon.... keep a diary of date and time and how you feel.....track it all so that when you see a physician,,,,,you can be exact as to when you feel sick...? Have you seen your gastroenterologist ?Perhaps,a visit to him would be indicated if the symptoms continue ?I had the surgery in NYC in July and I have been to the ER twice....I have already lost about 134 pounds....and I am now struggling with severe pain in my feet and hands.....difficulty sleeping....the doctor put me on lyrica...a little helpful but, none of the doctors that I have seen have any clue as to why this is happening...they said that I have peripheral neuropathy??Anyone have these issues? Stay well and take care....all the best...for good health.....

Hi... I have pondered that thought over and over again.....hard to say at this juncture...since it is water under the bridge..... I knew that I just had to lose the weight...I tried every method..including summer camps....etc...yes, I have lost alot of weight and I look like a different person....however, I never thought that I would be dealing with these post op issues....I have seen a neurologist as well as the primary care physician....and, I am still suffering with severe and intractable pain in my feet and now the top of my hands...I am unable to sleep and have to put a cream that the neurologist gave me......on my feet and hands....from what I have been reading.....the problem now is called... peripheral neuropathy and some attribute it too large weight loss and mal absorbsion of vitamins.....I have been taking all of the vitamins and eating as I could since the surgery.....I now understand that there are a small number of people to get this PN perhipheral Neuroplathy post bariatric surgery.....they cannot say why some do and some dont.....?I juust wish that I had known this prior to the surgery.....perhaps, I would have reevaluated my options.....?I can't say......the only thing that I am able to say....is that the surgeons should inform every patient prior to any bariatric procedure......giving the patient the information and statistics.......I did not experience that at all....I trusted that all went well....and it did....until 2 months post op....where I felt a Paraasthesia-a numbing in my legs....and then the severe pain in my feet and now my hands......I will keep reading the medical journals to see if there is someone whoo could assist me....now....... wishing you all good health and every success......

    Florence hospital was awful!

Thanks so much........at this juncture....it is a struggle...the primary care doctor is trying to assist me in finding out the reason this is happening.......it is truly upsetting since the surgery went well......from the reading that I have done...Mayo Clinic and Johns Hopkins Hospital.......there are some people who have peripheral neuropathy after bariatric surgery.......I was given a cream to apply to my feet and I am taking medication given to people to help with the pain in the feet....such as diabetic neuropathy......? Thanks.....hope that you are doing well......all the best...

    Florence hospital was awful!

Hi.,so sorry that you had that awful experience..... I too,was going to go to Mexico and have the VSG...however, I decided not to go there for many reasons.....I ended up having surgery in NYC....at a major medical center......with whomever you choose to have your surgery.....make sure that you have every bit of information......I lost 125 pounds since July.....however, about 7 weeks ago...I started to have severe and intractable pain in my feet and now in my hands.....it was thought that I had a vitamin mal absorbsion issues....the blood testss came out fine.....now, I am trying to read the literature from major medical centers in the USA to see what I am now dealing with......the weight loss and adjustment to the way I eat is fine.....but, this side issue is something that everyone is concerned and baffled about ?All the best....in your journey for good health......

Hi..I wish you well and every success in your journey.....I had my surgery at a well known NYC hospital with great results......however, after losing 125 pounds since July......I started to feel severe pain in my feet and an odd feeling in my hands....all of this started about 7 weeks ago....and the doctors do not know why...? the vitamin levels are all fine since mal absorbsion could cause these issues.....I have had several MRI studies....they found some disc herniations however, the burning in the feet would not be the cause.....still trying to find some answers.....reading journals from major hospitals....and I am working with my primary care doctor..... all the best.....always...

Hi..... PN stands for Peripheral Neuropathy......my feet have terrible pain and my hands feel odd.... the medication that the doctor gave me did not help to alleviate any of the symptoms.... I also just started using a topical cream and lyrica.....no relief yet.....I am searching for answers and reading journals from different major medical centers......anyone ever experience this ? Thanks....wishing you all good health and every success....

Hi,,,, I wish you good health on your journey,,,,, I had my surgery in NYC and all went well,,,,,(surgery was in July 2013)....I have already lost 125 pounds...almost at my goal weight..... however, approx. two months ago--I developed severe and intractable Pain in my feet.....the ER doctors gave me gababentin...a form of neurontin.... it has not helped with the terrible pain....I am now trying lyrica to see if that helps...... in the reading that I have done.....some people do infact, develop PN after bariatric surgery.... a small percentage.....that I was never told about..... at this juncture, my primary care doctor is trying to help so that I could find relief.....anyone ever have this issue ? Thanks......
  20. It must be so difficult for you and as a parent who has gone through a similar situation with one of my own children....I fully understand the frustration all around....my son was born weighing 13 pounds.....a large baby.. as he grew-his weight waxed and wained.....I sent him to weight loss camps, and therapists.....finally, the pediatrician sent him to an endocrinologist who discovered that he had issues with cortisol levels( adrenal and pituatary problems)....as a young adolescent....it was difficult....all around....he had to be attended to medically first and he also had seen a therapist to deal with weight issues.....difficult and upsetting since he wanted to be like his peers.......for hiim, as per the pediatrician....and the medical issue...surgery was not even an option....we are trying to work things through with the physicians and therapist....he is starting to feel better about himself and his self esteem.....at this point, it is a wait and see......perhaps, there is a bariatric program in your area that manages adolescents....teaching hospitals often do and some are comprehensive....as far as suggesting a surgeon in Mexico....personally, I would not be able to suggest anyone...it is difficult to have a procedure out of the borders of the USA...since there is no recourse..no followup....a surgeons training and post graduate training is imperitive.......in any country....there is a website for american surgeons called....Healthgrades......you could check on the surgeons training, etc. all the very best.....in your journey.....

    Peripheral Neuropathy

I had my VSG in July 2013....I have lost 125 pounds thus far....however, I am suffering from Severe and Intractable burning and pain in my feet....and now my hands ....have turned painful and red.....as is one leg.....I also have parathesia in my abdomen and inner part of my thighs and legs.....I am going through a myriad of tests.... and working with my internist....had lots of bloodtests.....MRI tests...will have to see another neurologist...the one that I had seen offered an anti depresant medication(that I felt wa rather insulting ) since he did not address the severity of the situation and the intracatable pain....needless to say, I will see another neurologist,a rheumatoligist, an endocrinoligist.....to determine the source of all of this post op problem.....anyone ever had this ?I also went to the gym to work out several times a week and perhaps, I should have waited...I am taking all of the vitamins annd eating as I am able../....

    Any Jersey Sleevers?

Thanks so much......I feel as if someone is passing the buck......the neurologist said to return to the gastroenterologist..... and he said he does not feel that there is any mal absorbsion issues....I am taking the vitamins and eating as best as I am able.....not sure if I should call and see the surgeon again ?The Mayo Clinic and NIH studies do say that it is unusual to have these issues post VSG however and small percent of people do.....and it seems as if I have peripheral Neuropathy......thinking about consulting someone at Columbia Presbytarian in NYC or the Univ. of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia....it is so frustrating...the surgery went well......,,,thanks for the support...I have some MRI studies.....already found some bulging/herniated discs.... I have a thorasic MRI on wednesday to see if there are any more discs that are bulging or herniated....? After I had the surgery and started to lose the weight--I went to the gym and had a trainer help me....something might have happened there ?

    Any Jersey Sleevers?

I had the VSG in July and I have already lost 124 pounds.....all went so well....until, I felt a parathesia in October--went to ER in NYC....still have no feeling in my abdomen and inner portion of my thighs and legs....the worst part is now I have SEVERE and Intractable PAIN in my feet.....the neurologist did an EMG and a biopsy...all returned normal......the vitamin level blookwork is also normal....no one know why this has happened....? In ready the MAYO CLINIC and NIH website and journals......it seems that there are a small amount of people who have this issue...it might be related to a mal absorbtion issue......?The neurologist gave me neurontin...does not help.......anyoe else have these issues....?
  24. Hi ..I had many bloodtests and it seems that all of the numbers are in the normal reference range.....the doctor gave ma a B12 shot and I also had an MRI of the lumbar area.....there are herniated/bulging discs on several levels.....L4L5 and T10 T10....I will have the full thorasic MRI next week.....I am taking gababentin ..the pain is severe......I had the surgery in July at a hospital in NYC.....all of these issues started 5 weeks ago.....I have parathesia and severe and intracttable pain.......I have been reading journals from the Mayo Clinic and will try to see what else can be done ? I have already lost 123 pounds.....a slow process....
