  1. I was trying to make a high protein breakfast the other day that might hold me over longer on the days I work. It was 1 egg, deli meat, and Swiss on the Pepperidge Farms super thin bread. I even toasted the bread. It did not go down very well. Could have been that it was the morning but I've noticed that most bread doesn't go down well. Rice I'm ok with and I haven't tried pasta. Oh well, I can live without bread.
  2. Love the polka dots! Congrats!
  3. Hi everyone! I have started a facebook page called Lap Band Louisville for anyone looking for local support. I'm hoping that maybe we can form some small, in person, meetings in the future. Everyone is welcome to join. Look it up!
  4. Hi, ladies. I have started a Facebook group called Lap Band Louisville. I would love for any fellow Louisvillians to join!
  5. Not to highjack this thread, but I wanted to let everyone know that I started a group on Facebook called Lap Band Louisville. Please join!
  6. I work in a surgical area. No makeup because sometimes they have monitors they put on your forehead and makeup can keep them from sticking. No fingernail polish because they'll put an O2 sat monitor on your finger and polish can sometimes cause it to not work as well. Toenail polish shouldn't be a problem.
  7. Once a month I go buy this bag of dog food for my fur babies. It's heavy for me to handle and I always struggle with it a little bit. It is a 30 pound bag of dog food. That is how much weight I've lost so far. I can't believe I was carrying that around on my body. And to think I need to lose about 3 more of those. Wow. LapBand. Best. Decision. Ever.
  8. Find your Zen! After the first few days it gets easier. Best Wishes!

  10. You can end up failing at any of the weight loss surgeries. You do need to be prepared to change your eating habits, but I think once you have surgery you'll be ok. It helps shift your mind. You're not gonna go through that just to fail. Plus, as a self pay, I would be even more determined. That's a lot of money. As far as complications, every surgery has potential complications and doctors are required by law to tell you about them. We all went through these doubts and fears. Just keep on keepin on. Decide you will be a success and follow the doctors orders and you will be successful! Best wishes!
  11. I was banded on December 18th. I lost a lot of weight on the preop diet and the week after surgery. Since then I've leveled out to about 2-3 pounds per week. And I'm really watching my calories and portions and exercising. You will not continue to lose at at a rate like that. Be patient. I think one week I didn't lose at all. Eat healthy, watch portions, chew slow. You'll be great! Plus, watch for that time of the month. I don't lose the week building up toward starting. Then after the first couple of days, I start melting again.
  12. I would call to be sure which shakes they want. I wasted a lot of money trying different ones only to be given a list of ones they wanted. Best wishes on your journey!
  13. Catfish is a UK fan? My hubby bleeds blue too. We're in Louisville, so of course there's a lot of rivalry. I'm not much of a sports person so I'm happy when either one wins. Unless, of course, they're playing each other, then I root for UK to make my hubby happy.
  14. My NSV today: I have to wear hospital scrubs at work. The trim is colored by size. How embarrassing. Well, they go up to a 2X which is pink. And then, because apparently fat people don't want clothes that fit, they skip to brown, which is a 5x. I managed to still squeeze into a pink top, but I was wearing brown pants. Which were way too big. Today I fit into the pink 2X pants! Yay!!! Side note: If it's ok to only provide two sizes for fat people (2x and 5x), then why don't they throw away the smalls and meduims and make them all wear larges? I have always thought this is fat discrimination!
  15. I took my hubby to a couple of things. I say do it! It's great to have support.
  16. I had all of those feelings. I kept thinking I was tearing one of my incisions every time I got out of bed. It gets better. Just move slowly and carefully.
  17. Catfish, I'm a nurse and I work in Electrophysiology. Specifically we deal with the heartbeat. I also do tilt table tests for vasovagal syncope. I'm not really up on my anatomy but usually the vagal nerve can be stimulated in the rectal area. It could be up near the band too. I've just never heard that. People come for a tilt table test to see if they're having inappropriate vasal vagal response. A condition where your vagal nerve causes your heart rate to drop drastically and therefore pass out. Another reason for passing out or dizziness symptoms could be orthostatic hypotension. When you stand up your blood rushes down and causes low blood pressure which could cause syncope or presyncope symptoms. Lastly, sometimes people's heart just stops beating the way it should. It happens more with age but I've been a nurse in pacemaker cases for 18 year olds to even a 102 year old! You could be having a low heart rate or pauses. This will definitely make a person pass out. This is all from a cardiology view. There are probably hundreds of other reasons people pass out. But you sound just like many of my patients. You could possibly ask to be referred to a cardiologist who specializes in electrophysiology. Don't go to a regular one. Hope this may help and if you have any other questions, I'd be happy to try to answer them.
  18. Even though it says 1700 I eat more like 900 to 1200. Plus I exercise. This is where I differ from my surgeon. I asked him one day how much I should be eating portion wise and he said, "I don't care how much you eat as long as you're losing 1-2 pounds per week." I just can't do that. I still watch my portions and I'm losing at a good rate. As far as a nutritionist, haven't seen one since pre op education at the beginning of December. The hubby and I are eating super healthy. I definitely feel like I'm on my own. I plan on next time I go, having a serious conversation with him about this. I can lose the weight. I've done it before. I need the band to help me keep it off.
  19. Four weeks from today. But, I'm losing weight through diet and exercise so I never know if he'll want to give me a fill.
  20. I don't know your weights, but 1700 calories is great! For my height and weight it says I should eat 1700 to lose 1-2 pounds per week. One night I took a banana, spread 2 tablespoons of peanut butter on it, then dumped a sugar free chocolate pudding on top. Ate every bit. 355 calories. It helped get rid of my sweet tooth for a while. And definitely, that TOM will get ya.
  21. Hi TLL! I'm a Lusco patient too.
  22. I'm coming up on 6 weeks postop. I know how you feel. I got my first fill last Tuesday and strangely, I feel I have less restriction than I did before the fill. Still, I really watch my portions. I have found that the cravings that hadn't haunted me since surgery are starting to come back. Like wanting something sweet. Or thinking that Arby's sounds really good. Thankfully, my husband changed his eating habits along with me and it helps to keep me on track. That and MyFitnessPal app. It takes a lot of self control. Just try to find healthy snacks to munch on until you get more fills to help you stay satisfied. Best wishes!
  23. I had the same issue.

Six days is a long time. I would definitely help it along. I'm almost 6 weeks out from surgery and I don't go poo near as much as I did before surgery. Maybe every 2 or 3 days now. I was concerned because I used to go 2 to 3 times a day! Really though, we're eating so much less. There is a lot less to get rid of and your body is making the most of what out does get. Congrats on your surgery!
  25. Awesome post. Very inspiring!
