At the hospital waiting room for my pre op
5-10 mins tops. You'll be fine. First person who looks like they have drugs, ask if you can have something early for anxiety. Just make sure you have signed your consent first!

At the hospital waiting room for my pre op
As a nurse, I've seen it done many times. They should give you enough sedation that it won't be bad at all. Probably won't remember it or it will be really foggy. Just try to relax!

Day 1 on LIQUID diet!
First day here too. Not too starved feeling until about dinnertime when my stomach started growling like a caged beast. Tea settled it down. Just crabby.

STL sleeve scheduled 9/25
They ended up wanting the actual letter with my approval on it. When they hadn't received it 2 days after I received my copy at home, I faxed it in and they called me back to schedule the same day. Scheduled for April 9. Can't wait to get this going!

April 9th!
All scheduled for April 9th to be sleeved in St Louis, MO by Dr Minkin. I'm a 32 year old married nurse. I'm starting at 282lbs and 5'4". Anyone similar? I can't wait to start this journey to health and a better life! My husband is finally getting around to worrying about how life after is going to be for us as a couple with meals. I think he's more uncertain about this than me. Anyone have any pointers for easing my fried chicken loving husband into this? Looking forward to getting to know everyone, Jessica

April 9th sounds like a great day!
Great suggestions! Thanks for the ideas. Think I may try the premier shakes as I've seen a lot of positive comments about them.

April 9th sounds like a great day!
Congrats to you! I'm excited and a little nervous. But mostly excited. I have a 5 day liquid diet pre op. That's going to be killer. I checked out the protein shakes at the store today and just can't make my mind up about which ones to buy. Those things are expensive if you're expected to drink 3 or 4 a day! What are you doing to prepare?

I have UHC and am covered. Coverage of WLS is usually specific to your employer.

Got my approval today!
I actually called HR as soon as my paperwork was submitted to insurance to find out what I needed to do for FMLA paperwork so I would know how to schedule surgery when I was called. Just trying to stay ahead of the game. Hope you get some answers soon too!

STL sleeve scheduled 9/25
I tried to send another message and still don't see it under my conversations tab. Guess the iphone version is kinda buggy. Got my insurance approval today from the insurance company directly. Haven't heard anything from Dr. Minkin's office yet and will cut them some slack for a day or two before I get annoyed with them not calling me. Hope this all goes smoothly!

Disclaimer: a bit of whining?
As a nurse in a hospital, I give plenty of liquid iron supplements down feeding tubes. I'm sure it's out there if tube clogging is an issue for him. May have to be prescription.

The wait is killing me!
Oh, I've already made myself a nuisance at both the doctors office and my insurance company. Started seeing my pretesting bills popping up on my insurance. I paid $0 for an EKG and a chest X-ray, but over $200 for the psych eval where we just talked about our recent traveling experiences, and $10.90 for the dietician who was actually worth 10 times that. Insurance is such a strange thing. Maybe I'll hear something by Friday? Think I'll call if I haven't heard back by then. Repeatedly.

Ok guys, it's getting close! Who's doing this with me on February 19?
Good luck!

Everything is submitted to insurance for approval. Just give me an answer! I can't help but feel like life is on hold until I can get this all scheduled out!

Submitting package tomorrow!
Time will fly! Now that I'm at this point, it almost feels like it wasn't long enough to get totally mentally prepared. Seemed like an eternity to wait when I first started. Thanks for the well wishes!

Submitting package tomorrow!
After a 3 month medically supervised diet, my package is ready for submission to the insurance company! Any ideas about how long United Healthcare takes to turn around a decision? My surgeon has someone who was approved yesterday scheduled for surgery next week. This just got very real very quickly!

First Meeting With Surgeon In Am
Thank you! My appointment went very well, and he said that I was "a perfect candidate"! I think he was impressed with my lack of medical history to have to deal with. I asked him all my questions on my list, and keep adding more for the next time I see him. Off to my regular doc on Tuesday to start my 3 month medically supervised diet required by insurance. I'm ready to get this moving!
