  1. I agree with the likely urban myth. That being said - eating a whole cheeseburger after surgery is just plain idiotic!!
  2. I agree the differences are HUGE from doctor to doctor! Not only pre-surgery testing but also pre-op diets and what they tell patients after surgery. It can make ones head spin sometimes.
  3. Some docs and nuts say yes, some say no. I'm assuming you're on liquids ..?
  4. There is certainly an issue and should be reported to the board for sure. IDK if there is a malpractice case there, but it wouldn't hurt to contact an attorney.
  5. Eggface is wonderful! She has some amazing ideas!
  6. It's a much easier lifestyle than you would think! We are a low-gluten family and there are tons of options out there. If you're going low-carb, then gluten free is actually a natural effect of that! You can use soy flour in place of white flour in a lot of recipes - George Stella is a great resource for recipes like that! If you're NOT going low-carb, there are gluten free baking mixes (I prefer Bisquick's version - it has xanthan gum which is a gluten replacement and all-natural), there are some great gluten free pastas out there, and you can use rice, potatoes, and corn for starches. You can use corn instead of wheat tortillas too. I would be sure though that if you use oatmeal to make sure and buy a gluten free version because some oatmeals have wheat gluten added to them! So, you don't necessarily have to go to any special store to buy stuff, just make sure you read labels and look for anything that says "malt" or "barley" as items to 100% avoid.
  7. Not a fan - I just think they're gross!
  8. My advice would be to not completely cut yourself off. It's okay to allow yourself a treat now and again - NOT every day, of course! Also, keep high-protein things on hand at all times - nuts, cheese, jerky ... things like that. And water!! I never believed that water would help stave off cravings, but it really works!! Something else to consider - for some sleevers, dumping syndrome does happen - I happen to be one of those lucky few that it affects, LOL. So if you're one of those and sugar, carbs, and /or high fat foods cause this for you, let that be a deterrent! You can also bring some healthier versions of treats to share with co-workers
  9. I have one occasionally. I don't every day because it affects my reflux, but I don't completely avoid them either.
  10. If anyone has been looking for some quick and easy low-carb sweet treats for holiday entertaining - or if you're just looking for some sweet bites for everyday - here's our latest episode! Check it out and let us know what you think!
  11. Love this. The pouch test is great for those that actually have a pouch, but what sleevers don't understand or don't realize is that we DON'T have a pouch. A pouch and a sleeve are two completely different things and act and behave completely different. So a sleever will try the pouch test and wonder why it doesn't work. I also think it's important for us to remember once we're at a certain point - for ALL WLS people - we NEED to be getting as much as possible from REAL food - meats, beans, cheeses, veggies, etc. Protein shakes are okay in a pinch, but are not the same and are not absorbed as easily as actual food is. Great post!
  12. Love this post! I need to do this as well - after dinner is my weak time!!
  13. It would help if you could tell us what you're eating. I know at 7 weeks I could eat a lot more than I thought I would be able to.
  14. Feels amazing, doesn't it? Congrats!!
  15. Your body will fluctuate the first few weeks. Don't worry about it!! In fact, I would step away from the scale for a while and only weigh at doctor's appointments - go by your clothing size, it's a much better gauge anyway
  16. I am a baker by heart, and love to bake goodies! This year I decided the unhealthy stuff will go to friends and family. I have healthier versions of some of my favorites that I plan on making this year for us to eat here, though. I am also a junkie - BIG TIME!!
  17. Thanks everyone! For the information - I'm going to track this week to see what I'm eating and get a gauge of my regular daily calories and go from there.
  18. Thank you! This is really helpful!
  19. Broth, jello, decaf and herbal teas (I loved Taos' Zen Green tea!!), water, crystal light ... How long is your clear liquid phase? This might give you some ideas for the full liquids stage:
  20. I had it on puree stage! Watch the sugar content, though. Not everyone dumps, but some people do and I REALLY did!!! I haven't tried the PB2 for the reason that I was worried by it too! Knowing that it's pretty natural though I'll have to check it out. Wonder how they get it powdered ..?
  21. Okay, I missed the hooker name post! LOL
  22. For me, it's improved greatly. We can do things now that were physically impossible before ... And he can hit spots he couldn't hit before.
  23. IF I buy new stuff (I'm a thrift store lover) I will do the sales at JC Penny's or Macy's - some of those sales are phenomenal. I'm also a fan of the Old Navy clearance rack!! I try not to spend over $20 on ANYTHING ... I'm cheap that way, LOL! On jeans - I am having a hard time finding skinny jeans I like! If they fit around the waist they're too big in the legs and if they fit in the legs the fit weird on the waist! Anyone else have this problem?
  24. I'm a little confused on the concept - Is it 5 feast days and 2 fast days or reverse? Also, what are some examples of what you eat on fast days? I am over a year out and can't seem to get these last 30-40 lbs off, so am really looking into this ...
