  1. Lowbmier, Congrats on a great surgery day! Here's hoping you have a speedy recovery!
  2. Amaltha, Where do you live? I am traveling to Denver for surgery, but I live in Louisiana. I am having after care in Texas (which is close for me) I have already met with my aftercare physician and he is great! He is very thorough... far beyond just fills and he is VERY reasonably priced. When he told me what he charges for appointments w/fills I was like "is that all!" literally... Not sure if Texas is anywhere near you... but there are some options out there.
  3. Good Luck Lowbmier!!!! I know everything will be great! But I will send happy thoughts your way! As far as my pre-op diet... I am exactly 2 months from surgery (Nov 19th is the day!!!) I decided to go ahead and start dieting i mean... what can it hurt... the more I lose now... the less I have to lose after! I am eating lean meats, greens... generally stuff like that! No breads, Pasta, etc.
  4. Hey girl, I want to tell you that you are someone who is beautiful and uniquely special. You are 19 years old. I would have KILLED to have had lap band at 19. I am now 26 years old and 2 months away from surgery... and everyday that passes I feel like my life is slipping by. But you have something that not very many people get... a second chance. You did the best thing you could do for yourself by getting a handle on your weight while you are still so young. You will have YEARS AND YEARS of amazing times ahead of you. Do let anything take away this special gift that you have been given! Keep your chin up and remember how special you are!
  5. I can relate to what you said about the other Dr. k thread... It is exciting that you all are getting so close to banding. i have 2 months. But i know the time will fly by. As soon as you have your surgery, you have to come back and tell me everything so I can be ready... I am so nervous!
  6. hey there, I live in Alexandria and am being banded in Denver. I am looking for someone a little closer to home. I was considering Houston for fills, but Monroe is MUCH closer. Do you have an idea of what she charges for fills? Thanks!
  7. What are the costs with Fill Centers USA? I have looked all over there website, and short of calling them, i havent found it... just curious. Thanks!
  8. I have ALWAYS stuggles with reflux. I also take prevacid... and honestly sometimes it feels like nothing works. I can imagine being so close to your goal that you wouldnt want to loosen your band. I am anxious to see how my reflux will be once I get banded? Did yours get worse? Was there anything you could take soon after banding or were you able to continue with your prevacid?
  9. Alabama... I am in Mississippi... so we are neighbors! Hope you are feeling better! When do you go for your first fill?
  10. Hey Sooner! I live in Alexandria, LA. I am 27 years old. I am being banded on Nov. 19th (going to colorado for surgery) Im not in Dallas where we could hang out, but I would love to keep in touch as support!
  11. good luck! I just relocated to the south(Louisiana) from Council Bluffs, IA. I miss the mid-west!!! I hope your process is quick with the insurance!
  12. Thats a great question... and something I have been wondering too... you may want to check into the thread for Dr. Kirshenbaum under Doctors and Hospitals. Allyson
  13. Jackie, I too went back and forth deciding if Lap Band was right for me. But after a year of serious consideration and hard-core research I decided to go ahead with it. My insurance does not cover lap band so I had to look at it as an investment into my healthy future. No one can tell you that lap band is right for you... only you can decide. But for myself... the benefits FAR out weighed the cost/pain/fears etc. Hope that helps Allyson
  14. Quick question for all of Dr. K's patients... I have heard he does both Lapband and Realize band.... Does Dr. K decide for you or give you the choice? if you chose...which one did you choose? And what was the deciding factor for you? Thanks
  15. having just recently gotten over shingles, I can tell you that what you have doesn't sounds like typical shingles... i had an EXTREME back ache (real deep feeling) before the blisters came up... then the blisters appeared individually... not in one "rash like" place... I think you are safe. Good Luck with your surgery!!!
  16. Yay! I'm sure you are getting excited! Let me know when you get back from Denver if you have any suggestions... also, what facility if your surgery going to be at? Mine is going to be at Crown Point. Let me know!
  17. Hi all... I know I have had a TON of questions lately... Thanks to all who have answered I am traveling (by car) with my mom from Louisiana to Colorado for my surgery. (Lots of stops and overnights on the way back so I dont have to ride for too long). Since I will be staying away from home for several days post-banding... could some of you give suggestions on things, foods, etc. That I may want to bring with me? Or random things that I may not have considered yet? Thanks
  18. Thanks, I will get some and try that )
  19. Can you all suggest the best brands of Protein shakes? I am so afraid they will be nasty tasting... ughhhh... Which ones have you had the best luck with? Thanks!!
  20. I am also One of Dr. Kirshenbaums patients. I am having surgery Nov. 19th. No tests, just phone consults with Dr. K and the nutritionist. And a pre-op appointment the day before surgery. No hoops at all. Plus the 9950 price was great for me. Considering the costs of cash pays across the country.
  21. Bikini, I am actually from Louisiana. But I am traveling to Denver to be banded by Dr. Kirshenbaum. Since I am a cash pay patient, I was very happy when I found his discounted cash price. Plus I knew several people who had been banded by him.
  22. Where will you be having your aftercare? or will you be going back to Mexico? Since I am going to Denver for surgery and I live in Louisiana, I am having aftercare in Texas (College Station) with Dr. Garwood. I was just curious. I would love to keep in touch. Since we are close in age and Close in geography. haha!
