    My 4th Week Post Op

Im 4 weeks out post op also and I take my vits everyday and I do a protein shake every morning for my breakfast. My Nut would like me to only use a protein supplement once a day if I can and I'm still struggling to get my 60-80g in, its not easy. I have also noticed when I don't get enough protein or water in, then I start feeling very crappy. Listen to your body, I would agree that you need at least one higher protein supplement in a day until you are supposed to eat more so you can get enough just by food. There is no way I could ever get enough protein in at 4 weeks if I didn't use a supplement. I'm not surprised you feel awful. Oh course smoking will also work against your new body, so that too would be a priority to quit and this is a perfect time. My doctor won't even do surgery if the person smokes and doesn't quit prior to surgery, seems to be a pretty big deal. Good luck, you have come to far to not be successful, I would talk with your Doc and Nut and help you back on track.
  2. I swear over the last week to week and a half nothing seems to taste good to me. I have been introducing more meats, and I love meat, and none of them really taste good. Even when I have sauces with them and such I feel like I just taste the meat taste and it is not appealing. Has anyone else went through this? Before this it seemed like I was more hungry and everything looked and sounded good, but know I don't have much interest and the meats are becoming difficult to eat.
  3. I would have to agree, call your doctor because those are red flag signs that need to be addressed sooner than later Mz Shay. Good luck to you.
  4. Damm pouch, who gave it all the power??? Oh wait, I guess we did....ugg.. Thanks for the info, I'm starting to get how the pouch is in charge.
  5. I was at 50-60 for the first two weeks and now im almost 1 month and Im at 70-90, but I'm a guy which increases my totals automatically. I'm struggling right now to get the 70 in though.
  6. Thanks for the input everyone, I do appreciate it. It is frustrating just for the fact that I'm already forcing myself to eat and now this just makes even more difficult to get in my required protein. I'm sure in the future it will be a blessing and I can see that, but man it's sure making it hard now...uggg. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one struggling with this and that does help. This site is fantastic for information and support, thank ou!
  7. My Surgery was on 9/11 and I'm down about 24lbs. Today I'm feeling kind of weak and drained. I'm a pretty active guy and think I over do it on most days. I have been having a protein shake for breakfast and some tomato / cheese soup or mashed potatoes for lunch & dinner. I'm drinking my water throughout the day. I question if I'm getting enough food or calories? Last week I was trying some different foods and probably trying some soft foods to soon so I backed off even though I tolerated most if what I tried. I have my first follow up with my surgeon, RN, and nutritionist tomorrow and supposed to return to work on Tuesday. I will need more energy for I can tell that. Just looking for some advice and opinions from you. Not a lot of men on here compared to women and I wonder the gender difference makes???
  8. Great, great ideas everyone, thank you! I have decided to add a good protein snack/meal between lunch and dinner and she how that goes. Good part is that I'm still losing good and down 31lbs in 3.5 weeks. I was away visiting family this weekend and struggled a bit to get in enough protein, but I made it through. This is such a learning experience.
  9. Anyone get headaches if they don't eat enough protein?
  10. Thanks, great ideas, I really need to do something since I need at least 70-80g a day right now. Second shake would do it as much as that doesn't sound fun. I could try the powder on some things but not sure if I would like it on my shaved turkey out chicken.
  11. I started logging everything this we on my phone app. called Lose It, which is great. My Not wants me to do a shake for breakfast and protein via food from my other two meals which I'm still finding it difficult to get enough protein with the small portions even doing chicken, turkey, or tuna. I think I need a snack in there to make up the difference.
  12. Thanks Terry and music. My Nut told the same thing about just worry about my protein and water and the calories should work out. Good info about calories in protein Music. I have to say its been tough getting enough protein in... uggg.
  13. Thanks ladies, I will start my logging. I met with my doctor and nut today. I'm doing very good, but I'm only getting about half the protein I need. My nut really wants me to kick it into gear. I need to keep my calories to 400-500 a day and get at least 70-80g of protein. The weight I have lost was all fat so that felt good. I can add ground meats and fish to my diet so that should help. I'm excited for the future me and don't want to screw it up.
  14. Thanks for the advice, I will see my doc and nut today, I bet they tell me what you guys did... lol. This is going to be hell of a journey!

    September Post Ops!

I had my surgery on Sept. 11th and I have to say I'm feeling pretty good now, last three days I have turned the corner. I have minor tenderness around incision sites and drain. Amy able to drink more water than sipping now, which feels great. Still on pretty soft/pureed foods. I tried some soft canned chicken the other night and it about killed me, I think it was still to rough for me. Drinking a far amount or soup and trying to get enough protein in from my shakes. Trying to find a good smoothie recipe I like. I'm happy to say I'm down about 17lbs since surgery and that feels good. I have more of an appetite back were some foods actually look good even though I know I can't eat them yet. I'm still off work and trying to be more active daily and feel like I over do it most days. I'm so motivated to drop the weight and become healthier. I keep telling myself this will be a long journey and I must have patience. My goal is to lose about 150lbs and actually see the scale below 200 even if its 199. Started at 365, surgery weight was 345, current is 327. I'm looking forward to the next year and learning how to use this new tool to the best of my ability. Good luck to all of you, we are an elite group. :-)
  16. I just returned home from the hospital thus afternoon, my surgery was on the 11th also. My first day post op after I passed my swallow study they wanted me to get in 300-500ml of liquids in, that was a struggle. Now for the next 3 weeks its 48 oz a day. My surgeons told me the best way to know if your getting in enough fluids us by your output. You should be peeing 4 times a day, any less then your not getting enough. I thought that was good advice. Pretty sore but glad to be home.
  17. I had my surgery yesterday. All went well, fair amount of pain, but doing fine. Lying in my bed just trying to take it all in. Let the journey begin.
  18. Thanks everyone! Will be going home tomorrow. Pain kinda sucks right now and nausea... ugggg
  19. Tomorrow 9/11 is my surgery. I'm pretty anxious to get it done and start my new journey. I would welcome and prayers and happy thoughts for a successful operation and recovery..... Thank you!!!!

    Tomorrows the big day!

Thank you! Definitely a mixed bag of emotions.
  22. I had my pre-op yesterday with my physicals, labs, pictures, pre-admit, etc... and they say I'm good to go for my surgery next Wednesday. Its very surreal and hard to believe that after such a long and trying road that the start of a new way of life is almost here. I'm very excited and ready. I need to stay focused and not get to anxious. This will be my first ever surgery so I'm a bit nervous, but I also work in the medical field and see surgical patients all of the time, so I know most do very well. One week!!!!
