  1. Thanks for all the reponses. I ate tuna that didn't seem like it went down well. I had (what felt like) heart burn for about an hour...I didnt know if that was the stuck feeling or just something I should stay away from.
  2. I was only banded 2 weeks ago, But I was wondering how everyone can tell that something got stuck.(I'm still on mushies) Besides probably throwing up, can u feel something is wrong?
  3. I was also banded on 10/18 and 2 days ago I ate 4 shrimp (not jumbo or even medium, they were really small) That was a big mistake.. I felt like my chest was gonna pop. I'll be sticking to my mushie diet longer than I have to now. I was told I could start eating tuna and eggs soft stuff, but I'm not even interested after my shrimp incident. Good luck on the mushie stage...
  4. Skokie sounds great. I just need some time to get use to this band. Other than that count me in!
  5. I was just wondering how long this post-op chest ache is suppose to last. I feel relieved when i am standing but as soon as sit I feel like I have the band stuck in my chest or something...I can breath, but deep breaths hurt like hell. Is there anything anyone did to relieve this tightness?
  6. I'm finally getting banded thursday morning! Has anyone been to UIC? My surgeron is Dr.Galvani, but I dont feel like I've actually met with him. It Feels like I see everyone but him...Is anyone getting better care at other places??? thanks Jessica

  11. I got my approval letter from UHC yesterday!:whoo: It only took 1 week for the approval to go through. I did send alot of medical record in to support the reason for the surgery.. Good luck to all of u!
  12. Reply to: SkinnyChick I started the process in July, and my insurace approved it in sept. I would wait until ur new insurance kicks in, and see if its covered. Unless u are going to be self pay. Good luck, Jessica

  14. I think they are mainly concerned about my health, but when I mentioned I had an appt, my sisters (who do not have weight issues) were totally against it. They told me I should just try losing the weight on my own, and I was just looking for an easy way out..My husband just wants me to be happy and healthy, and friends think its crazy. so I think i'll be logging on more offten for support...lol
  15. I know it sounds crazy, but my family is making feel guilty about getting banded...I feel like this is a cosmetic surgery for me now.... And I in the back of my mind I also know that it may be my only chance to live....Did anyone else struggle with this? any advice would help
  16. :confused:I called UHC about a month ago, and the rep said Bariatric surgery is covered as long as I have A bmi over 40, was on weight plan with my dr. for at least 1 year, and had been obese for at least 5 years... I called UHC choice plus today.. and they told me that lapband was covered as long as the surgeon called this in before the surgery. I asked the rep. if there was anything that I needed to send in, and she said "no..we have a box on our screen that says if u need to submit forms for approval and it has nothing in there, so you are good to go" Has anyone else recieved totaly different answers from UHC? (I'm glad they assured me that the conversation was being recorded...lol)
  17. Thanks, But I have UHC Choice....I hope they pay for it...My appt is 7/28..I cant wait!
  18. Ahhhh...Holy Crap after reading this I might cancel my appt...I have an appt on 7/28 @ UIC...Luckly I work for a residency program so I have friends who know the surgeons there, maybe they can recommend someone better..
  19. So I finally realized I've put my body, image, and health through hell. I've decided the only thing that can help is the band. I've tried diets and gyms, and they worked, but I always gained double the weight back. So How did everyone tell their co-workers and family that they decided to have the surgery? I think because I'm only 23 (turning this week) I think everyone is going to think this is mainly cosmetic and wont take me serious. How did everyone else manage negativity? Thanks Jessica
  20. I went to a group session at UIC medical center, and they said they charge $14,550 for the surgery, and $250 for fills. Hope this info helps
