Banded Today!! 10/16/07

Recommended Posts

so here I am. I got home from surgery center not too long ago. I know it is the first day, but it wasnt bad. I was wheeled in at 1:15pm and the surgery took 1hr and 45min bc the doc said he found scar tissue in my abdomen. WIERD. He asked my husband again if I had ever had abdominal surgery and I havent. Oh well. SO the port pain my be quite a bit mre than normal but I am hoping it isnt so I dont have to go through that. I am scheduled to return to work on Mon 10/22. I will keep you guys posted on how I feel through out this process...bc apparently people really like to know...LOL The only thing I had trouble with was nausea when I was waking up. They had to give me a double shot of nausea and also a double shot of morphine (prob bc of the scar tissue siutuation at the port site). I hope my recovery goes well so I can be on my way to being healhy again!! Thanks for listening. I think I may take a quick nap, BYE!!!

Ps those also banded today you are in my thoughts to have a speedy recovery.;)

I will definitely let you know how I feel. I was nervous too. It just goes with the surgery...LOL When I first saw my hubby after I woke up I told him "I cant believe I didnt run screaming when I had the chance"...lol My anesthesiologist was a funny guy, he asked me if I was ready. I said "I think so" and then he said "Well we have your clothes, it would be hard to skip out now"...LOL I had an overall good experience and I was glad because this is the first time I have been "under". Right now I feel [retty good, I took an hour nap and I think I am ready for some beef broth! I am only on clears so only broths for me now! Hope this helps and keep in touch and I will be happy to share any detail you want to know. Private message me if you like as well.

TO the others that wished me well....THANK YOU. I absolutely need and Love the support I have here!

Hi Melissa and everyone! I was banded yesterday too, but had to spend the night because I was at an out of town hospital. I'm home now and feeling just fine. Like Melissa, I had my moments when I said 'What the heck am I doing??' but I knew it was the right thing to do and my family is so proud of me I know they will support me.

Dr has me on full liquids so they brought me cream of wheat in the hospital this morning - I thinned it out with some milk and had a few spoons full. I'm not interested in causing ANY problems down in my new small tummy. I'm drinking some proti-diet now - the orange tastes pretty good to me. I see the Dr next Friday but as of right now I'm feeling fine. The incisions are ouchy .. like a cut .. and a little bit of shoulder pain, but other than that I'm feeling really good. The Dr said my liver was good (which means I was a pretty good girl on my pre-op diet)!

I'll be anxious to hear more about how all of you Octobandsters are doing as we all progress through this adventure!!

take care

Judy :)

Hey Topdownbug!! So glad to hear you are feeling well. My doc doesnt have em on full liquids yet but I am managing. Not very hungry anyway. I might have overdone it today. I think I will try to rest a lot more tomorrow. My hubby is off until Friday with me so I feel like I can do a lot more that I probably shouldnt do. We went a few places today but I was hitting the pain medication like clockwork bc my port site hurts so bad. Other than that I feel pretty good. Again glad to hear from you and hope you are doing well!!

Congrats Heidi! It took me a while but I found your post on the other topic. I think I'm the 'mom' of this group since I'm older, but we still have plenty in common now so it'll be fun to keep up to date with you guys.

Let's all check back in by Friday or Sat to see how things are a few days out, ok? I don't feel too bad this morning. I have a lot of reflux so I think I might take a pepcid today. Otherwise, I'm looking forward to a day full of rest and planning for my nutrition for the next few weeks.

take care ladies!

Judy

Hi everyone. This is my first time posting so forgive me if it dosn't come out right. I had my surgery on 09-11-07 and I feel fabulous. I took the week off but could have gone back to work in two days. I was up and running errands the next day. The only problem I have is being hungry. My first fill isn't until 10-26-07. I did have an appt. with the dietician Monday and found out I could have fruits and vegetables in between my meals. I thought I had to incorporate them into my 1/2 cup meal. That has helped tremendously. I am down 22 pounds already. I haven't eaten anything that I shouldn't so everything has stayed down from day one and not once have I experienced any pain. Yesterday one of my co-workers told me that I was "glowing". Well I just thought I would share my experience for those who have just been banded and to those who are thinking about being banded. Maybe by the next time I post I will have figured how to put a weight tickler on. If anyone has a good site to get one please let me know. Thanks!

Thanks for the great post! Its always great to hear the positive stories. Its great to have a place for people who are having problems or questions, but its also good to hear about the ones who are breezing right through the process too! Keep up the good work and keep us posted. Twenty -two pounds in about six weeks? Sounds good to me!!

Judy

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
