    Juices?

I'm not having TOO bad a problem getting my protein in (I do shots when I'm struggling) but sometimes I really have to fight to get my calories in. I'm just about 3 months post-op and seem to go thru 3 and 4 day stretches when I just don't want to eat anything but obviously don't like feeling hungry. So any ideas for good juicing recipes? High protein would be great but just plain ol' healthy would be great, too! I really can't seem to get enough veggies. So let's hear your ideas!!! Thanks!
  2. Hey everyone! I'm a little over 2-months post op and am wondering about scars (prob should have wondered earlier, lol)! I had my gallbladder out a couple of years ago and I find the visible scar to be similar to the ones I have post RNY and that one healed pretty well. I don't remember how long it took for the "red, angry" look of my gallbladder scar to go away but my RNY scars still look pretty GRRRRR! , not to mention the one from my JP drain. Is it too late to try something like Moderna (sp?) or Vitamin e caplets? I don't want to spend money on Moderna bc I hear it's pretty expensive if it's too late to help I appreciate your opinions!!!

    Scars

"Moderna" lol. It's been a long day! Yeah, I hadn't really thought of Neosporin. I guess it's to be expected that they're still red 2 months out but I didn't know if it was too late to start the process. Thank you!!!!

    Stomach virus

    Thank you!!!!
  5. Well, I've apparently caught the stomach bug that's been going around my house. I should have called my surgeon's office but I was pretty out of it all day. I had my bypass May 9. I can't keep any solids down and it seems all I can do is sip on water so I'm worried about keeping hydrated. Can I do a drink like Gatorade or is that too sugary? Any other advice on how to stay hydrated? Thanks!
  6. Do you count from your pre-surgery (last surgeon check-in pre-op) weight or once you came home post-op?
  7. I'm 4 weeks out from RNY and I've noticed that almost every time I eat, I become nauseas almost immediately. I feel like I'm eating slowly enough but I'm sure I could work on that. Some things, especially meat, comes right back up so I'm wondering if it is an eating-too-fast thing. (The weird thing is that the throwing up isn't all that bad. It just kind of comes back up). Any ideas?
  8. That could really be it, thank you! I guess I've gotten cocky lately and have "eyeballed" my portions instead of weighing them. I'll try going back to the tried and true and see what happens!
  9. My RNY was May 9 and I lost 23 lbs pretty fast. I'll admit I haven't started working out since this week and I haven't been great with my water intake until this week but I'm telling you: the scale will not MOVE!!!! I know about stalls but this soon after surgery? I'm 4 weeks out...isn't that soon????

    Post op!

  11. Hi everyone, I'm two weeks post-op and I've been on soft foods for around 1 week, per my surgeon's approval. I eat exactly how I'm supposed to, portion and content-wise but just don't feel all that great. I've been a little queasy after some meals but nothing too terrible. I've been pretty light-headed today and I think that's what I'm most concerned about. Our a/c went out yesterday and it's been about 80 in the house. The new unit won't be finished until tomorrow. I'm sure that has something to do with it. But since the surgery I've just felt a little under the weather, queasy at times and light-headed or downright dizzy at others. I know it's only been 2 weeks and I've had a pretty major body overhaul but I just wanted to see if this is normal???? When will I start feeling like myself again? My pain is all but non-existent and I've lost almost 20 lbs but I haven't been on the treadmill since surgery bc honestly I feel so unsteady I'm scared to! I've been pushing Water more bc I think I've not been so great about that so I hope that'll bring about some change. Any thoughts?
  12. Thank you! Mentally I feel pretty durn good, lol! But WOW, chasing a 5-year-old around who's about to be out of school for the year is HARD, not to mention being in school myself. All I want to do is lay down. And I had really gotten into working out pre-op so this sucks, not feeling safe even getting on a treadmill!

    MAY 2013 POST-OP GROUP

I had my surgery on May 9. Not sure what my weight was that day (silly, I know) but I've lost 7.5 since my discharge day of Saturday! Things went very well but the surgeon tied the top of my pouch a little tight so fixed it while still in. Because I was under an hour longer than usual, he insisted on my staying an extra day to see how I tolerated fluids. The worst part was having my drain removed. It wasn't planned but he was being extra cautious bc of the minor complication (which I appreciate). The drain removal SUUUUUUCKED. Oh, I almost passed out. I'm a little tired but very mobile. Am able to get in about 30 g of protein per day but that's pushing it for me. Pushing the liquids, though. How is everyone else?!??!
  14. I have totally cheated on my 2-week liquid diet and my surgery is THIS THURSDAY!!! I'm scared. What are the consequences of not following the diet strictly? I'm scared. Also, I have to be up and at 'em starting Monday with school. I'm really stressed out. I have a high pain tolerance but I'm more worried about being sick. I need to be able to drive asap bc my child needs me and my Mom needs me, as my Dad just died. Please give me some encouragement! I'm mainly worried about how I've cheated on my diet. What are the consequences of that? Thanks!
  15. Thank you everyone for the well wishes! I had my surgery on Thursday with very minor complications so they kept me one day later to see how I tolerate liquids. My surgeon told me everyone has different pre-op diets but for him, it's mainly to get ready for post-op restrictions. I had a cup of Mac and cheese and other stuff the day before my surgery and had no problems whatsoever. The complication was that he tied the top of my pouch too tightly, so he just wanted to monitor and have me use a drain while admitted. I cannot TELL you how fast I'm recovering. The hardest part was getting out of the hospital bed. Once I was up, I was good. And literally every hour I got up, it was easier and easier! I know I have a life of changes to make but WOW, am I excited about where this life of mine is going! Good luck to the rest of you!!'

    May surgeries!

May 9! Not so nervous about the actual surgery as I am the recovery. We have a LOT going on. My Dad is in his last days in hospice, my 5 yr old is staying with my mom while I'm in the hospital (the surgery is at 7:30, we have to be there at 5) and then the night after. We have just moved out to the country but thankfully have the city house where the surgery is happening. And I'm a full-time student, but online. I know there's no way to predict how things will go but I'm worried about how it's all going to fall into place afterwards and how I'll do recovery-wise. I'm pretty tough, but studying while not feeling great will be rough and I'm wondering about driving my daughter into the city (about an hour with traffic) to school once I'm able to. Ugh! So much on my mind. My husband is taking off Thursday thru the weekend so that's cool. I'm just nervous and overwhelmed I guess. Lol
  17. So, the nutrition evaluation is the last thing to do before scheduling. Now, I want to get the most out of my visit obviously but I also want to know what to expect. I've heard that people have to have repeat visits before they're cleared and I obviously want to get cleared asap. Any tips? Thanks in advance!!!
  18. That makes sense. I guess I'll do ok since I KNOW how I should eat and what I should eat, I just don't do it! Lol! Thanks!
