My surgery is scheduled for July 1st. I have all my insurance stuff together to have sent in tomorrow. Here's hoping (and praying) it gets approved quickly and the July 1st date is correct!!

I will not miss 1. being the fattest person in the room. Every room. All the time. 2. my feet and ankles being the size they are. They hurt all the time. Even Lasix doesn't help much. 3. sweating even when I'm not doing anything. 4. wearing ugly expensive clothes because I can only shop at a couple stores. 5. not being able to sit on the floor and play with my daughter. 6. pretending to buckle my seatbelt when driving. Or having it pulled all the way out when I do wear it and it's cutting into my neck. 7. being winded after walking up a flight of stairs. 8. not wanting to have sex with my husband often because I'm not as flexible as I want to be. 9. feeling that everyone around me is disgusted by my appearance. 10. not fitting into a booth, theater seats, any seat with arms, etc. 11. watching life from the sidelines. I want to enjoy it fully. I could go on and on forever. My surgery date is July 1st. The beginning of a whole new me.

No one having surgery should ever have a tampon in. Hypothetically, if something happened during surgery and lets say a patient ended up in a coma or on a ventilator for any period of time that tampon would be in there for far too long, drastically increasing your risk of infection, basically because no one would think to go look for it and remove it, you know? Trust me when I say you are not the first nor the last person to have their period during surgery. No one will bat an eye at you. It's really no big deal! Relax and take some deep breaths

How great for you that your insurance doesn't make you jump through any hoops! I don't know if it was my personal insurance that wanted 6 NUT visits or if that was Dr. O'Malley's requirement, but they might make you have at least a couple appts. with the NUT before you can see the doc, I'm not sure. But, your appt. is coming up quick so you'll find out then!

I think it depends on your insurance. I have good insurance but they made me jump through some serious hoops. I have to have 12 consecutive months of weight check visits with my primary physician, plus 6 visits with the nutritionist, plus a gallbladder U/S, a psych eval, and a couple other things. I finished the 6 months with the NUT on 5/8. She "cleared" me then told me a secretary would call to schedule with the surgeon. That secretary called me a couple hours later and scheduled me the next day with Dr. O'Malley. The visit was about 15 minutes, and he walked me over to his secretary to schedule my surgery which is July 1st. I still have one more weight check visit with my primary doc which is June 3, and then all my paperwork will be sent to insurance for approval.

I'd love to help support you! I'm hoping to have surgery early July. For insurance coverage I have to do a 12 month supervised diet, my last month will be June. I cannot wait until summer to start my new life!

I haven't had surgery yet but that's what I need to lose too (plus maybe even an additional 25 pounds).

Yea, water fountains are completely gross, especially in a hospital! I think I'll just try to grab a quick drink every time I walk past the nurses station, or maybe I can hide a bottle on the med cart or something Thank you everyone for your suggestions!

Thank you bigmike, jodimc, and Debbiebydesign. That's what I figured I'd have to do, leave it at the nurses station or something and just try to stop by every chance I get. I kind of like the flask idea but I can totally see someone turning me in thinking I'm drinking alcohol on the job!!!!! There are always SO many eyes on us nursing students!!

That's the problem. I cannot carry around a water bottle all day, especially into a patients room. It's just not professional. There must be someone out here in a similar situation.

When they say you should sip water all day what do they mean? I'm in nursing school and during clinical days at the hospital I can't just walk around carrying a water bottle. What can I do realistically?

I am 7 months into my 12 month supervised physician requirement for my insurance. I've been visiting my PCP monthly for a weigh-in, and I've been to the informational session at the surgeon's office, had a History and Physical appt. with the surgeons PA, had my initial appt. with the nutritionist and one additional appt (they are monthly up to surgery), had a gallbladder ultrasound to check for gallstones, and am going for my psychological eval next week. I think I have done everything up to this point that I can do to prepare. Does anyone know at what point I'd see the surgeon and/or get a scheduled date for my surgery? My last monthly weigh in will be in early June, does the surgeon generally wait for insurance approval before he schedules a preop appt. with me, or does the insurance need the surgery date in order to approve? I know it's not going to be anytime soon, but I need something new to obsess over for a while

I'm going in for my psych eval on Monday. She said she's mailing me a ton of paperwork to fill out and bring back, and the appointment will be about 1.5 hours. What am I going to do for all that time? I'm also nervous because I'm diagnosed bipolar (I've already disclosed it to the surgeons office) and my symptoms are well controlled on my medication. Is this going to be a deterrent to having the surgery? Thanks, Renee
