Anyone else getting ready for 1st appt?
with this surgery you can lose the weight. My doc suggested the RNY because of the malabsorption. If the steroids made me extra hungry at least I would not absorb all the calories. It will work for you!

Anyone else getting ready for 1st appt?
I just wanted to comment on the steroid issue. I have been on them constantly for the past 6 years. I have rheumatoid arthritis and steroids help me live. I had gotten into a horrible cycle with them. They made me really hungry all the time so I would eat. The more I are the more weight I gained. The more weight I gained the higher the dose I had to take to ease the inflammation in my joints. My goal for my surgery was to get off of them for good. I have gone from 20mg a day to 2.5mg. Every time I try to lower my dose my hip flares up. I am not giving up on that goal. Good luck and if you ever have any questions just send me a message!

Surgery Day Tomorrow!
Good luck tomorrow. Also as a normal part of your journey during your first month you will have some - what the heck did I do this for - moments. Keep in mind it is normal, and a short lived feeling.

What 3 things do u wish u had been told?
My biggest thing would be head hunger. What it truly is and the tricks you brain will play on you to get you to eat things you should not. It is something you must master and learn how to spot it. The best way I can describe it is to think of your brain as a two year old child. It will do anything to get what it wants. The tantrums will be epic and if you are prepared things will go smoother. The first time I realized that people who are new to my life don't know what I used to look like. The self doubt of would you have been my friend if I still weighed 256. Whatever relationship you think you have will food will be challenged. You must be ready to develop a new and healthy relationship with food. Be smart enough to look inside yourself and discover why you are eating that particular. Also to realize you are human and will fall of the wagon a few times. That's ok, but you have to pick yourself up and learn from those times. Finally this is such an AWSOME journey. You learn so much about yourself. Your dreams really are possible

Newbie here with a question!
Welcome I went with the bypass because my doc said there was a proven success with it, and he felt it was my best chance to lose the weight and keep it off. I also felt that if I was going to do this I wanted to do it once and not have to worry about revisions. As for the food question. Everyone is different, and you will get different answers. I am able to eat anything at 18 months post op. You an your new pouch will go through a getting to know you period. It will let you know the items you can and can not have. Keep in mind that list changes all the time. Things that made me sick in the beginning I have no problem with now. Sometimes things I have had no problem with suddenly make me sick. I have no problem with popcorn or rice. However some doctors do not allow popcorn. You should always go with what your doctors instructions.

Failing?
Remember there are so many different reasons we gain a pound or two. Water retention Your period Not having a bowel movement Please also try to remember the number is just that a number. If you feel good and other health issues are being resolved then it does not matter what the little box tells you.

G a s
LOL..for some reason, I always thought it meant dumb husband!! I think it depends on the situation. DH could mean several things!

Failing?
Remember during this journey you will have times like this. It is part of living your life. What is different is how you deal with the situation. Before we would fall off the wagon for many different reasons, and then just stop. When I have hit those times I usually just refocus. I really try to realize there is always a trigger for the bad behavior. For me it is feeling sick. I just stop logging and eating healthy. It does no good to beat yourself up over this, this is what make us our own worst enemy.

What Is....
I have found my chicken has to be moist. My pouch does not like dry poultry. I have found that Boston markets chicken is pretty good.

Congrats!!! You look good!!

sugar free, diet, low calorie drinks after sugar?
Diet drinks have always made me sick. They give me a horrible migraine. I can tell you my taste has changes so much after surgery.

Got the FLU, Help!
Yes it could effect your surgery. You must be open and honest with your surgical team about being sick. As for being hungry and on your liquid diet it will get better. Around day 4 or 5 your stomach starts getting used to it! Good luck

42 days and counting...
Have you been calling the insurance company? I would begin a daily insurance call crusade!
-
Protein shakes..blah blah blah!
Most doctors will consider the Protein shakes as your Fluid intake for the day as well. For example if you are supposed to get 64oz fluid in each day and 32oz of protein shakes - then you only need to drink 32oz of Water. However each doctor is different and you should follow his directions. As for getting the water down - sip sip sip. Suck on ice as well.

Blood in your stool after surgery
Blood red is actually good. Blood red means the blood is more than likely coming from the rectum area. Like a hemroid. If you had to strain to poop for your first time that could cause it. When the poop looks like coffee grounds then it means the blood is internal. That is a lot more serious. Follow up with your doctor.
-
Dealing with cravings
Always follow what your doctor outlined before surgery. If you are supposed to still be on liquids then you should not be eating solids yet. Remember your pouch is still healing and will not alert you when you are overfilling your pouch. I tried to eat eggs the week after surgery and got very ill and threw up for about ten minutes. So please be careful.

7 months out...
Bearman,My suggestion is to be ready for the up and downs of this journey. Follow your docs rules and advise. Understand that you will hit a stall about a month post op and it is normal. It does not mean you have stopped losing weight or done something wrong. Try not to measure your success by the silly number on the metal box. As for exercise my suggestion is to get started as soon as you can. Go slow at first. Finally write down a list of goals when you reach those goals write down new ones. Anything is possible and your dreams can come true! Good luck!

Blood in your stool after surgery
I have not had the problem. Is the blood red? Or does your poop look like coffee grounds
