  4. I am one year post OP as of 6/5/13 and slowly over the last week or so I have been having increasing difficulties with solid food. When I take even a bite now, I have pain like it is stuck. I can tolerate all liquids and applesauce with no problems. As long as I am not swallowing anything I have to chew, I feel fine. Anyone else ever go through this? Suggestions?

    Anyone 5'10-6' tall?

I'm so glad you asked this question! I'm 5'11 and my doctor did not give me a goal weight either. He simply said I would level out at the weight my body needed to be at. I am just over one year post OP and I am down to 208lbs. I'd like to be about 180lbs I think.

    Laying on my stomach

I was sleeping on my stomach after five days. I was very gentle when it came to rolling over but I couldn't help it, I would roll over in my sleep.

  10. I was on the emotional rollercoaster at first as well. It tapered off over the first couple of Weeks and really disappeared when I was able to start eating something I had to chew. Between the meds, the shock to your body and brain, and the hormones, it can be overwhelming. Take a few min quiet time for yourself to cry or whatever and let it out. It will pass and as you heal and start shrinking, you will have lots of reasons to smile. Sent from my VS920 4G using RNYTalk

    How Much Are You Eating?

It really seems to depend on your surgeon. Some are very strict, no carbs sugar etc. Some surgeons, mine included, have very few if any restrictions. I had three weeks of full liquids after surgery and then I was given the ok to stay trying things. At this point, 4 1/2 months out, I can have anything I like in moderation. I have to make sure I get between 40 and 60 grams of Protein per day and he recommended I eat five small meals per day, between 1/2 and 1 cup at a time. I can have have bread, but more than one bite and I don't feel so hot so I avoid it. I have to say it's all worth it though, I'm down 69 lbs so far and I feel amazing! 14. I like the Adkins Dark chocolate premade shakes. Before surgery I loved everything Vanilla but now it makes me want to vomit just imagining the taste. The premade Protein drinks are way better than the powder, and they are easier to grab as I am running out the door. I lean towards Protein Bars more often though. I keep them in my purse and desk at work just in case. Mini Luna bars are my favorite. Sent from my VS920 4G using RNYTalk

    Friday Weigh-In!

Yes, I have Weeks like that too. My doctor advised me to focus on my protein but make sure I get at least 800 calories a day in. I have days when I only hit 150 to 200. It's been better as I have adapted to my surgery and Weeks when I am on track with my protein I loose pretty good now. Sent from my VS920 4G using RNYTalk

    Is This Dumping?

Right after surgery, any time I put something in my mouth for the first few days I felt similar to that. Keep in mind your stomach has been through a lot and it is swollen and mad! My surgeon recommended that I say away from anything cold; warm to hot liquids was recommended to help calm the muscle spasms that cause the pain. I'm not a hot liquid lover but it did help a lot. As for the runs, the first several weeks I had them. One other recommendation I was given was to introduce one new type of liquid per day so that you can keep track of what works well right now. Hang in there, it gets better!! Sent from my VS920 4G using RNYTalk

    Feeling Left Behind

Boy is it good to know I am not the only one who felt this way. My family and friends do everything over food. I spent a lot of time with my mom, sister and her family right after I had surgery so they could help with my daughter. There I was, feeling hungry all the time, stuck on liquids. They ate lots of my favorite things and the smells were so intense that many times I excused myself to the bathroom and cried. I loved to eat, my sister and I both love to cook together, I mourned for those times thinking I would have to give them up. I'm now almost three months out, I can't eat everything I used to, but it's so doable now. My sister and I cook, and I get my tiny plate and have bites of everything and i'm good. I can sit with friends at a restaurant and we share dishes now and everyone gets to try different things. My depression has lifted and the benefits of this surgery have made a huge impact on my life. I am sure your husband deploying is triggering many emotions for you in this already difficult adjustment time after surgery. When he comes back, you will have had time to adjust to the surgery and will be able to Celebrate his return with great energy! This room is chock full of support for you. Come in and keep us posted. You and your husband are in my prayers. Sent from my VS920 4G using RNYTalk

    Feeling Left Behind

I totally agree with what the others have said. I also went through a doubtful period when I wondered if I made a mistake. I had a hard time eating and I always felt hungry which most people don't feel. I wrote down a ton of questions and brought it with me to my post op appointments. Getting answers helped a lot. Came to find out that because I was not eating much, my body was holding tight to ever pound it could. Add time went on and I could eat more, the weight started coming off easier and feel amazing. Sending you good vibes and a big hug! You are doing great! Sent from my VS920 4G using RNYTalk
