The Simple Things In Life
After reading all these posts I'm glad I bought a new recliner for my office LOL WE have them in the livingroom but, it's noisy out there. I'd never sleep, my dogs would keep me up. At least in the office I can shut the door so if everyone else is up, I can still sleep if needed.

Got The Wind Knocked Our Of My Sails :-(
jgarland...the reason "not medically necessary" just means they didn't receive all the information they wanted the first time. I was denied as well for the same reason but, there are "specific" reasons. I've been denied twice....first time was because they didn't think I'd been under the bariatric center's care long enough. Three months was their requirement. My surgeon proved that and they passed that but, then denied me for the next things they wanted. This time they said the same 3 month thing which my surgeon argued they approved last time so they said they wanted a new letter. They also wanted a new letter from my surgeon that explains all about the surgery again but, with CPT (procedure) codes. (If you're not familiar with medical billing...it's the numbers used for each procedure billed.) She was going to write that over again but, they also wanted a NEW letter from my PCP that actually has the words "medically released for surgery". She had written a letter stating I'm a long standing patient who's suffered from morbid obesity the whole time and that I would benefit from Gastric Bypass surgery. Apparently she needed the extra words. Problem was she was on vacation and wouldn't be back until AFTER my first surgery date. So now I"m waiting to see her this coming FRiday, get a new letter and we can apply for the surgery again which is set for 7/11. Hopefully it will be Medically Necessary again. INsurance companies use that as a catch all when they want additional information. If it were truly not medically necessary then there will be no other requires being asked of you or your surgeon and they've seen all the evidence they want. Even then you can appeal. IF YOU call your insurance company it does help push it a bit too. Good luck! Again remember this doesn't mean a permanent NO yet.

Help! I Am Having Gorging Problems!
Well the first time they wanted more info...my weight for the past 4 years and proof that I've been under supervised care for 3 months. My surgeon supplied them with that and they accepted those additions. Then they denied me a second time stating they needed proof about the 3 months of supervised care, a letter from my surgeon that included CPT (Procedure) codes and Medical release from my PCP. Well my surgeon argued the point on the 3 months that they had already approved and so they gave into that again but, wanted a new letter explaining it. My surgeon was ready to write both letters again but, my PCP went on vacation and wasn't going to be back until AFTER my first surgery date. Well so much for that. I see my PCP this coming Friday and praying I get the appropriate letter in place so my surgeon can then apply for the new surgery date of July 11. It's so nerve wracking! I was all set to go, had everything in place for 6/6 then let down. So I'm trying again...I won't give up! Always remember YOU'RE WORTH IT! You're worth your effort to better health...see if that helps with the food stuff

Help! I Am Having Gorging Problems!
It's something that got us here in the first place that we need to learn how to deal with before surgery and it's important to keep working at it during the whole process and even more so after the surgery. You're not alone. I find I have to talk to myself ALOT to get thinking the right way. Food has been comfort whether we admit it or not. I know for me I've had to learn to replace that comfort with other things when I'm stressed. It's been a long process and some days I don't do so well....especially the day my surgery was denied a 2nd time. But what I was happy about was it wasn't an ALL day thing that it used to be. So you'll get there. If you're serious about the surgery, start working and preparing yourself for stressful time and what you'll do instead of eating. Lots of books out there to read about RNY surgery and helpful hints in them about this exact thing. I wish you the best with the start of your journey! July 11 is my next date for my surgery...hoping my insurance approves it this time.

40's New Beginnings
During the process of getting a date we had several visits one of which was called an Immersion day. Well during that the therapist spoke to us and one thing she said was ......younger folks their skin usually has the elasticity to bounce back but for us that were in our 40s or older...well...she said "sorry ladies, but you may start to look older as you lose weight, the boob will become deflated and look like empty tube socks and the skin will sag" WE laughed but, at the same time. ewwwww. Looks like more surgery after all the weight is loss. Tummy tuck and boob lift.

Let's Help Each Other On Those Bad Days
When I had my lapband I went through losing hair after about 3 months post op. It slowed down and eventually stopped though. My hair didn't get really thin so I was lucky with that. Seems that it's all grown back after it too.

100+ To Loose
Hi Ken, Insurance has been something else. Two denials for me. I just got the 2nd letter today. Three things left to get done I guess. I can't see my PCP until June 22 so they had to post pone my surgery. She's away on vacation and the covering provider won't give me the "medical release" they want from her. Stinks! But.....in will come in time.

Let's Help Each Other On Those Bad Days
I did see some biotin that was small gel type pills...but wasn't sure we could take those. I'll have to ask my surgeon if I see my hair falling out.

40's New Beginnings
All good tips northwoodslady and I thank you for those! I have all my protein shakes, vitamins, shaker bottles, etc ready. Just before I'll pick up the other fresh ingredients I need like skim milk, yogurt, etc. I already bought new sweatpants/capris, tshirts etc. New bathrobe and slippers for the hospital and walking the halls after surgery. Then bingo...now have a new date as well. July 11 can't get here soon enough.

Congrats on your revision. Don't forget you're body is still healing and you probably still have some fluid left from the operation/IV they gave you. You'll be losing soon! How are you feeling?
