  1. Oh cool! That's not what I was picturing but it's below what I had budgeted and it comes with an endorsement so I will order it tonight!!! Thanks!!
  2. Thanks!!! I was planning to try to go to work after 2-3 weeks but they don't have "light duty" so it will just depend on work and the surgeon.
  3. Getting ready to get a food processor for making shakes, puréeing food, etc. I don't want to drop a lot of money but want to get the best value. What have you guys had luck with? Thanks!
  4. I'm not sure what it is, I got my phone call to schedule about 45 minutes ago. Then I instantly became terrified and super nervous. Surgery is not until November 6. Please tell me that I'm not the only one whose first emotion wasn't excitement. I've had excitement throughout this entire process but it got sooooo real today. Don't get me wrong. I am so beyond excited about the outcome but reading some things on here, Iron deficiency, bones becoming brittle has me worried again. I know that if I take my Vitamins religiously that I should be fine and obviously the potential risks outweigh the potential heart attack/stroke/diabetes which is in my very near future I'm sure. Just would like to hear I'm not the only one who is panicking a bit lol. It also doesn't help that I've woken up in the middle of a procedure which requires anesthesia the last three time I had it, they were all dental surgeries (wisdom teeth, extraction of a tooth that a previous dentist did a root canal on and messed up resulting in severe infection and the bone graft after the extraction done by two different oral surgeons) obviously it's going to be very different and probably different anesthesia and of course I will talk to the anesthesiologist but understandably I'm still scared. Thanks guys! This is such a big change that I'm pretty sure this is normal...
  5. My nutritionist said to think of it as one cup. Half cup (2 oz) protein (lean meats, cottage cheese, 2 eggs, but only one yolk and she also said to poach it, not fry it because the fried egg can upset your pouch). Then no more than 1/4 cup can be fruit OR carb and the other 1/4 cup veggies. Hope that helps?
  6. I'm on Synthroid (was on levothyroxine but had a reaction to the genetic that I don't have to the name brand, my grandma has the same issue) and I have gained weight, lost handfuls of hair and do not feel any different since starting the med even though my levels have apparently returned to "normal." I plan on having my RNY within a month. As others have stated, the meds have not made a bit of difference for me. Try not to regret your decision if you can. Hopefully your overall goal was your health and WLS can help in achieving that. I absolutely understand how frustrating it can be when your doctors miss something though.
  7. Oh, I never thought about the IVs. I'll just have to make sure my parents tell any nurse that walks in while I'm out....
  8. It does stink! It's supposed to help you get better and it makes it worse. Have to weigh the options lol.
  9. Maybe I'll go to the store and get some and test them out! Hahaha. Don't think I've ever used them. I'll have to talk to my surgeon about it. Thanks!
  10. I am allergic to medical tapes and bandages. They create huge, red welts which usually end up being worse than whatever I'm trying to cover up. I've tried several different kinds and when I had a biopsy in 2011, I was told the tape they used would not cause a reaction and it did. Anyone else have a bandage allergy but do okay with what they use to put over the incisions for your bariatric surgery?
  11. I'm having rny because I've heard the acid reflux/heartburn can be terrible with the sleeve and I already have some problems with that if I eat certain foods. I've seen on here where sleevers have had to get revisions to rny. I want to skip that risk entirely. You should go over it with your surgeon to see which is best for you. There are pros and cons to both.
  12. Thanks for all the responses! It's good to see all the positivity that comes from having this surgery!
  13. Yeah, I've been talking to my friends about it. We've estimated the first 6 months to a year would be the worst and we are all prepared to support one another and work through it and I know it will all be worth it. I was just curious about other people's experiences.
  14. I am still pre-op and I am super excited to have surgery and have a new and healthier life. I have been so concerned that I'm going to regret my decision afterwards. I keep hearing that people often regret surgery after but that it usually starts to subside. If you did have initial regrets, how long did it take for you to feel like this was a good decision?
  15. I'm at Riverside too, but I have Dr. Rana! Looking at October for my surgery. Good luck on Tuesday and congrats!!!
  16. AutumnPunkin!!! You have no idea how happy it makes me to see that you do not regret your decision, even after complications (that sucks though, glad you are out of the woods with all that). That has been my biggest struggle in the preop process (other than fitting into booths, chairs, clothes, etc. Lol.), is that fear of regret. You look awesome!!!! Your post has made me feel 10x better about my decision. =) More than you know!
  17. Hey! I'm turning 28 in a couple months and will be having RNY early to mid October. I have my fur-kids but will be looking forward to many of the things you mentioned in your post! I'm so excited to start living an active life! I'm a little worried about skin, but I figure my stomach is screwed up now as it is, and at least I can hide the skin with my clothes. I guess intimacy will be a bit awkward and will make me self conscious but who knows... Right now, I'm struggling with the fear of regret. I'm afraid I will regret my decision afterwards and on the flip side, I'm afraid I'll regret it if I don't...so I feel like hearing some honesty would he great for me! I feel like I'm on a crazy roller coaster, one day I'm super excited and want to have my surgery now, then the next day fear kicks in. I know it's normal, but I'm driving myself crazy! Lol.
  18. My program requires three nutritionist visits, even if insurance doesn't. All of our nutritionists only focus on bariatric surgery patients (as do all the other staff, physicians, psychologists, surgeons, etc.) I spoke with her for an hour my first visit just on the numbers that someone getting RNY needs to focus on after surgery and she is having me change little things now. I'd be more than happy to send you the numbers when I get home! They do not have us even look at calories which is weird because it has been pounded into my brain lol. I have to watch fiber and protein and fats and sugars. Plus they give out a bariatric journal with all that info. I'd be more than happy to send you some of my notes if you'd like that I got from my nutritionist.
  19. My program recommends six "meals" a day. Then they give the criteria for how much protein and fiber you should eat at each "meal" and the limit of fat and sugars at each meal. It made a lot of sense to me and it's supposed to help with 1. Making sure to get your protein and fiber and 2. Keep you from getting to that hungry feeling. Seems like every program is so different! it sounds like you are doing all you can to stay on track! If it's head hunger hopefully you get over that hump soon!
  20. Here are the Riverside dates for the remainder of the year!!! All meetings are at 5:30 pm on the dates listed below! Location: McConnell Heart Health Center - Lower level, classrooms A & B 3773 Olentangy River Rd, Columbus, OH 43214 (McConnell Heart Health Center is NOT in the hospital, it's past it coming off of 315.) August 19 - Behavior: Mindful Eating September 2 - Dietary: Social/Restaurant Dining September 16 - Exercise II October 21 - Dietary: Recipe Swap November 18 - Integrated Session: Surviving the Holidays December 2 - Open Forum December 16 - Nursing: Managing Your Health
  21. No problem! It is open to anyone! Even if you had surgery elsewhere. I got a copy of the schedule today when I saw the nutritionist so I'll try to scan it when I get home and post it!
  22. I get that. I've decided that I don't mind if my mom or dad stay, just not together because that would be awkward since they annoy each other lol. I know they all mean well. I've just always been incredibly independent and have a hard time with others worrying. Maybe if they are there they will worry less? Who knows. I'll have to see how I feel closer to surgery. Considering the waves of emotion I've gone through (excitement, fear, confusion, more excitement), I'm sure I'll change my mind ten more times between now and then lol.
  23. The aforementioned boyfriend won't be a problem now, but my mom is now asking, "Is your dad staying? Is grandma staying?" I think she's fishing for the invite??
