Should I try Protein Shakes Now or Just Wait?
Nothing wrong with experimenting with Protein shakes now! Just be advised that your tastes may change after surgery, so don't pre-buy large quantities of anything! Adding a protein supplement now may actually help boost your weight loss when worked into your meal plan. I know it did for me pre-op. Once I added supplements into my already low calorie pre-op plan, I lost faster.

Just did something scary!
You will get into that dress! I did the same thing before I was sleeved. I collect a Harley T shirt when I travel and was in San Francisco for work the week before my consult. I purchased a "skinny fit" Women's large shirt that I could in no way cram myself into, (I was in a 2x top at the time). Today, I'm 8 months post op and that shirt is loose! I can wear a small, (even in the skinny fit shirts) now! You'll be in that dress in no time!

Multivitamins
My surgeon's office recommends a separate Iron supplement due to the interaction between Calcium and iron, (you don't absorb the iron in your intestines if it's taken at the same time as calcium. SO.. I take a regular Multivitamin in the morning along with a time release calcium supplement, Biotin, fishoil, a probiotic a B12 and a D3. I take an iron supplement with lunch, then another multivitamin before bed. Labs are good, so I guess its working.

Whats going on with my sleeve?
You'll feel it when you begin to eat food that's more dense, and feel more satisfied as well on real food.

HOW LONG Will I Need to Take Prilosec/Prevacid?
Do you have a PCP you can ask? I'm prepared to take at least one dose per day for life, (cut back from 2 doses\day last month), but I had reflux to begin with. Mine was "silent" and went mis-diagnosed for 10 years. It's easy for me to know now I need the stuff because I know the night time cough I get is reflux, not asthma. Mine was finally properly diagnosed due to the pre-op EGD they did for my sleeve when they found evidence of effects of too much acid. If you're asymptomatic, I don't know of another test, besides the EGD but your regular doc might.

to thin?
You're not crazy. I never thought I'd have this concern. Ever. But I'm 5 pounds from goal, (15 from my stretch goal). I'm still losing pretty well so I'll probably make the stretch goal (135 pounds, I'm 5'6"), which will make an even 100 pound loss. I'm already in a 6 easily. Does that mean I go to a 4 or even a 2? I can't picture it. At. All. The only thing is, I've heard that most folks will gain back 10-15 pounds from their lowest weight and tend to stabilize there, so I'm trying not to stress about it unless I get to the point I can't maintain a weight I'm comfortable with. I exercise at least 5 days per week burning 500-600 calories a pop. I guess it's all about calories in\calories out. Record what goes in and what you burn and adjust as necessary would be the logic. We shall see...

Stomach scope procedure
It's not a big deal at all. They'll give you something to knock you out so they can have a look and make sure there are no surprises, (hernias, ulcers, etc). You'll likely wake quickly after the procedure and have no more than a scratchy throat afterwards. I didn't even have that. When they did mine, they found a small hernia and evidence of reflux that they determined was causing my chronic night time coughing. I never had heart burn and had been being treated for 10 years (unsuccessfully) for asthma. They were then able to put me on the proper medication, (along with fixing the hernia during my sleeve procedure) so now I don't have those symptoms anymore. My EGD was a major blessing!

Fitbit or jawbone?
Garmin ViVo Fit! Battery lasts an entire year and you can get the chest strap to use with your workouts. I never have to take it off to charge or sync it and it has an indicator that tells me when I've been sitting too long. Which it's telling me now to get up and move! Here I go!

How you see yourself
I'm 8 months post op and 85 pounds down. 5 to go to my goal, 15 to my stretch goal. Still losing well, so I may actually make the stretch, (135 pounds, I'm 5'6"). I'm in a size 6 now easily. Most days I see a thin'ish person staring back at me. Not a size 6, but a healthy 8 or 10 and she looks pretty good to me! I see my friends who are an 8-10 and can't believe I'm smaller, and that the clothes I borrowed 2 months ago are too big for me now. Some days I feel like I look outright chunky. Body image is a strange chicken for sure!

To tell or not to tell?
I'm an open book. I'm excited to share any information I can that might help someone who is struggling and could benefit from this procedure, (or knows someone who can). As for the ridicule, maybe it's that I don't give a flying "eff" what folks think if they're against me in a decision I made to improve my health, maybe I've been lucky, maybe its in my delivery, but I've had very little negative reaction when I've told folks about my new tool.

Dizzy spells
I did early on. Mine was from low blood pressure due to slight dehydration. I upped my water and added G2 for the electrolytes which helped.

Family NON-Support
- Sushi
I started sushi maybe 4 months post-op. Funnily enough it was the only rice I could tolerate for several months. Today at 8 months, any rice is okay in small amounts.- Uses for protein powder?
I add chocolate protein to coffee. Mix with a small amount of cool water first then add the coffee in a shaker.- so indecisive!
I'd been at least overweight since I was 8 years old. Lost the same 50 pounds multiple times. Didn't really have health problems until I turned 40, then WHOA! Hi BP, Hi cholesterol, asthma, borderline diabetes, anxiety and general pain and lethargy. I did not have the energy to work so hard at losing it again only to be unable to maintain the loss, so I decided that NOT doing it scared me more than doing it. Good decision for me! I've lost 80+ pounds, am near goal and prescription free except for the omeprazole the surgeon put me on post-op. High BP, asthma, high cholesterol and high sugars are a thing of the past and I'm enjoying my new size 6 jeans! Best of luck in your decision!- Pics
Pics, a weight loss surgery photo album by bikrchk on BariatricPal. 3 photos in Member Photo Gallery.- Too much protien?
I was just looking at your stats. Are they correct or did I miss something??? Whoops! No, they were not! Thant 1 should have been a 2. Thanks for the catch!- How to get over stall? Hair loss
Exercise regularly. Change up what kinds of foods you're eating, (staying within your program limits). Vary your intake from day to day, (again, within limits). Eat a few carbs if you're not already. Weigh\Measure\Journal everything that goes in. Weigh yourself no more than once per week. Take your measurements, your body may be adjusting. I rarely lose inches and pounds in the same week. Take a Biotin or hair skin and nail supplement. Get 75g of Protein per day. Wash you hair less if you can, (that's hard in the summer) and keep your mitts off of it as much as possible. I lose more hair when I straighten it and put it up than if I leave it natural.- Two Weeks post-op and seem to be tolerating food TOO well! Help, nervous!
Sounds about right. You may not feel a ton of restriction until you try solid food. It's DIFFERENT and takes a lot longer to pass through your sleeve.- Too much protien?
We don't absorb nutrients the same as folks who've not had WLS. True, the malabsprotion component is greater in a R\Y patient than a sleever, but sleevers are missing 85% of their stomach where some of the absorption takes place. According to my surgeon, this is why we are told to supplement Vitamins, minerals and Protein FOR LIFE, and why yearly blood tests are needed to check for potential issues. Everyone is different, but as long as my checkups are good and labs are perfect, I'll keep doing what I'm doing, (getting about 75g per day).- Tell me about your restrictions
I was sleeved in October of 2013 and never really had problems with anything in particular except rice. It took about 6 months before I could tolerate it well. As long as I don't over eat or eat too fast no real issues with anything.- I want to hear some NSV's.. Enlighten me!
Perfect blood work Off all prescriptions except PPI (prescribed post-op) Shopping at Victoria's Secret Thinking that I was done with all clothing sizes that started with "X" and then buying in an "XS" maxi skirt Having my purse fit with me in the seat at the movies Watching my fitness level improve via lower heart rate and BP Confidence Shopping in any store I want, (sometimes in the JR's section) Barely recognizing myself in pictures Taking the stairs with my 20 pound computer bag without passing out Painting my own toenails Cat calls while walking into the mall (I'm 47 years old!) Eating out is VERY economical now as I either order ala carte or have leftovers that last several meals Being able to take a walk on an 80 degree day without sweating myself into a puddle in 5 minutes Sleeveless tops- Someone noticed my weight loss at work and i felt humiliated
I've had similar experiences both in the office with folks I don't really know well and once with a neighbor I'd never met before. It's a little weird, I agree! It may be hard, but try to view these experiences as compliments and OWN your success! You've accomplished a great deal and someone noticed!- Gastric Sleeve Experts... Please Chime In!
I'm 7 months out. I originally thought I'd lose an even 100, (putting me at 135 on my 5'6 frame, (right in the middle of the healthy BMI zone). But today, having lost over 80 pounds and already wearing a size 6, I'm not so sure I need to go to 135. I've decided to shoot for 145 and re-evaluate. I may go for the extra 5 or 10, maybe not. My surgeon, like yours told me I could stop (if I wanted) at my 6 month follow up when my BMI was still in the overweight category. Guess I'm an over achiever, 'cause "average" doesn't work for me. My goals are MY goals. Go for a weight YOU feel good at (within healthy parameters, of course). - Sushi
