Thoughts and concerns about the preop diet
Im on day 7 of my preop surgery is 1/13/14...the 1st day I cheated and sent my bariatric coordinator a email telling her I had cheated. My fear was they would cancel my surgery. She had my surgeon respond to my email because I was so freaked out. He assured me a cheat or two would not stop my surgery. He advised me it is advisable to lose some weight preop to remove some of the adipose fat around the liver and in abdominal cavity as it has to be held out of place by a surgical assistant during my procedure. He encouraged me to get out of the house during times I felt like I was not in control of my eating to go for a walk or take a drive. He told me that behavior modifications will be necessary for the rest of my life so I need this opportunity preop to start making the transition. They understand that if we could all follow the strict guidelines of a diet we would not be eligible candidates for WLS. Take a deep breath and take it one day at a time. Btw... Best of luck.

relationships: I'm getting sleeved, but he/she's NOT!
Hi yall..just wondering how some of you veterans have handled getting sleeved and your partner who used to be heavy & happy with you isn't? Have you become a nagging food police officer, or has it created any other issues fir your relationships? I love my boo bear at his heaviest as he has done the same for me, but I just wonder what happens when one half of the fat cute couple gets slim. I dont want to make him feel bad or stress him because I came to my decision for me and if he is not ready or doesn't want to make a transition, it's his choice. I just don't want to get the big head. So anyone have any thing to share that can help me. My surgery is 1/13/14..I'm Tom Cruise on Oprah EXCITED!!!!

Did any of you have food funerals prior to starting your preop diet?
My surgery is scheduled for 1/13/14 and I start my preop diet on 12/30/13 and lately I've been putting down so much food. I feel like such a loser, but in a way I feel like it's my last hooray. I know it won't make the mental journey any better, but I am reading Emotional First Aid Kit. I don't know I'm probably just making excuses, which is why I'm over weight and need the surgery in the 1st place.

African American Sleevers
Congratulations on taking your first step...YES it will get better. I think what your feeling is from swelling. As the swelling goes down, that feeling of awareness of everything going down should subside...also two good booms to read to deal with your head hunger that had u thinking about food (because at this time out from surgery you are not physically hungry, but mentally hungry) Emotional First Aid Kit and Exodus from Obesity...both books are very good books to help u develop skills to assist with the mental transition required after WLS. Good luck, keep us posted :-)

Returning Back To Work
Yes...I work a desk job so I pretty much just sit down all day. I like you live paycheck to paycheck so it's going to be tough..my situation is unique...im having my ovaries taken out 12/13/13 by my obgyn, will be out 4 weeks for that then I'm having my gastric sleeve surgery on 1/13/14 so on my day of surgery I would have already been out of work 4 weeks so all I can suffer through is 4 more to make sure I dont go under..I will get short term disability while out but it's not 100% of pay. I am just scared. But I know my surgery will be such a positive change in my life I MUST push through and take care of ME! sidenote: grocery bill will be low for a while I have to do 2 week preop liquid and 4 week post op liquid then 4 week soft/mushie diet. So that's 10 weeks of little of nothing! Best of luck
