  1. Find out why. Does the nutritionist have no other free appointments? Ask them if you can call every couple days to ask if there was a cancellation. Do they space the appointments out that way for a reason? I would ask if there is anything sooner.
  2. I just submitted for ins approval yesterday. I smoke, and I will quit when I get a surgery date. I am down to about 3-5/ day. i'm not sure about my surgeon's rules about nicotine replacements. Will be sure to ask. I am willing to quit--but not until I absolutely have to. Giving up carbonation will be tricky as well. I love my lo carb monster in the morning. maybe I will switch back to coffee, who knows. They do want us off all caffeine 2 wks before surgery. I've already started to wean that too. I'm willing to go to any lengths to do this! liquid diet?? bring it! so ready for this change!!!
  3. most ppl don't lose 30lbs in a year. I think you're doing pretty well. remember, healthy weight loss is 1-2lbs/ week. think of it over a year. 50-100 lbs in a year is damn good. chin up.
  4. ohhh that's right.. I won't tell anyone!
  5. yes, call your surgeon's office. your incisions should be getting smaller at this point. any fever (over 100)? redness, hardness, heat over the swollen area?
  6. me too! annnnnd we wait. Good luck to you!
  7. HAHAHAHAHAHA what stick?? There is no stick!
  8. in Narcotics anonymous, we define recovery as 'an active change in our ideas and attitudes', so yeah, you are probably right. I am pretty well-connected in the recovery community, so I'm in a good place. Just want to make sure I'm covering all the bases before I have surgery. Need to set myself up for success, which probably involves very limited access to pain meds at home, as well as increased support/ counseling, as well as meetings.
  9. Hi I am in the approval pre-req process for VSG. I have a history of opiate addiction, in recovery for 3 years. Just wondering if anyone else has been through surgery with addiction history?
  10. i would tell them to put the donut down. I would LOVE for people to tell me that, btw. Eye on the prize.
  11. So excited, nervous, all of it. can't wait to have a date, then things will really get real. Good luck, can't wait to hear how it goes.
  12. Good Luck! I am pre op in orange county. I'm just up the street You'll do great!
  13. How much is it open? you should prob call your doctors office. If it is one of the smaller incisions, it might be ok. you can get steri-strips at the drug store and put a couple of small tapes across it to hold it closed. If it is gaping open, more than a centimeter or so, bleeding, leaking pus, or have a fever, please go to the doc.
  14. I had my first anxiety dream about the surgery last night. I had had the surg, but didn't feel a difference and just kept eating.
  15. This is common in couples, when one person is getting healthy. Most likely the partner is unhealthy. Let me guess, he is overweight himself and has some unhealthy habits? He is seeing you get healthy and he sees that as losing his unhealthy partner in crime. Consciously or not, he is sabotaging you. Be careful! I have more experience in addiction recovery than WLS, but this is common in recovery. Lots of relationships end as a result of one partner getting healthy, if the other one does not. Keep connected with your support groups!
  16. I'm nervous about that too. I have told my parents. They were less than excited, but will be supportive. There's a lot of misinformation out there. I have other support as well as some friends that have been through RNY and LabBand. I just have to watch my expectations. This is my decision and I'm doing it for me. Keep your eye on the prize!
