New LB-er, 3 weeks out
Hi Sweetp. I was banded in Mexico about five weeks ago. I will be getting my fills at Barix in Ypsilanti. I live not too far from there. My daughter lives in your part of the state in Allendale. We will be up there this week babysittling while she gives birth. I have to call for a fill as soon as we get back home.

Diabetes
My nightime injections have been cut in half and I don't need my before meal injections anymore. As for my pills, I haven't seen my doctor or had labs since being banded. I am hopeful though.

I finally put my picture out there!!!
WAY TO GO, CLARA. I;'d like to do something like that but I am computer illiterate and you know what they say. You can't teach an old dog new tricks. GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR SURGERY. i'LL BE THINKING OF YOU.

Hello!! Where do I begin this process??
I have BCBS of Mi thru Teamsters and it is covered. I was told that BCBS of Mi will cover it but most coverage requires a six months of a controled diet. (weight watchers, etc.) What part of Mi are you from? I went to a seminar at Barix Clinic in Ypsilanti.

How Many Pounds until People started discussing your weight loss?
I've lost somewhere about twenty five lbs so far and if I don't mention it, no one notices,. As I keep telling my husband, "it's like peeing in the ocean and expecting the water level to rise.":clap2:

starting liquid diet tomorrow(13th of Aug)
Try Glucerna. It seemed to keep my sugar levels on an even keel. The chocolate is good and I made a boo boo last time I was at the store and ;picked up butter pecan by mistake. Maybe not a mistake. It was really good.

frozen sodas
I know soda is out of the question because of the carbonation but what about frozen cokes. There is no carbonation left. I know three is sugar but I was thinking maybe as a special treat.

Psych Eval...WAY too long, WAY WAY too long
Mine lasted a couple hours. They gave me this computerized test of 569 questions, true or false. I read the questions, didn't think about them deeply and answered them. Anyhow, I thought that was what they wanted. Never really explained it. Then, the doctor came in and asked questions about my family past and present. Education and relationships. That lasted about 15 minutes. Then I had to wait over a month for the results. I FLUNKED. My primary care doctor just laughed when he read it. Said it was a bunch of psycho-babble. Said I was depressed. DUH!!!!!!! Anyway, I wasn't about to pay for counciling for something I knew the cause of (weight) and I knew my insurance wouldn't pay since the doctor wouldn't recommend the surgery and my depression was SO bad that I knew I couldn't wait (I was ready to commit suicide) I went to Mexico, self pay and it was the best thing I ever did. The depression is gone and I am moving forward with my life.

Just starting real foods
Hi, I was banded three weeks ago and have been on a liquid diet since. Today's my target date of eating real food. What should I expect??? Will I be restricted at all?? or do I have to wait for a fill for that? Will I be able to eat anything I want or.......................... I was only told to separate my foods eating Protein, then veggies, then fruit, then carbs. But how much? I can't believe I've made it to this point and don't know what to expect next? Poppahobbs
Hi I an 57 and banded 7-16 in Mexico by Dr. Ortiz. Everything went smooth and I feel great! ! ! I've already lost about 30 lbs., but tomorrow is thre day I start solids. BTW: I have diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, one knee ready for replacement, the other one soon after. Already, my doctor has cut my night insulin in half and cut one of my night diabetes pills. My sugar levels have NEVER been so low.

Ypsi, MI----Dr. Kam
I've seen him twice but ended up going to Mexico because, believe it or not, I flunked the psychological evaluation due to a deep depression. Would you do me a favor and ask them when they do your surgery if the do fills there for Mexico patients and how much. This is the closest place for me to go.

4 days post op
My surgeon said you will have no physical hunger the first week. But watch out for the head hunger.

Post-Op nastiness, ways to get through it?
I guess I am lucky. I was banded 7-16 and I have had none of these symptoms. My incisions were tender for a day or two but that was it. I slept fine and my gas problem is no worse than it ever has been. I have to wonder if I really had the surgery.

Self Payers
Mine was $8500.00/ included everything but airfare. I also went to Mexico. From the time I decided which surgeon to the date of surgery was less that three weeks.

Where are all the Michigan people at??
For me it took forever. I spent about a year, researching and thinking about it. Made the decision while falling deeper and deeper into depression. With that and roadblocks, it took another year. Finally decided I had to climb out of the pit. Flunked the psychological evaluation and my insurance wouldn't cover it. Made the decision to go to Mexico, and two weeks later the deed was done. AMEN ! ! !

Mexico ?
I was banded 7-16-07 in Tijuana by Dr. Ortiz. It was a fantastic experience. He runs a first class operation and it was great. I feel great and am losing lbs. daily. Cost wise he is middle of the road but I feel it was worth every cent.

Finding it hard to get all my protein in each day
I am having the same problem. My nutritionist says 30g protein a day and I am lucky to get 15 in me. drink glucerna also but I have to drink it in two servings. I am full after half of it. Protein powders taste nasty. real chalky. yuck.

Protein Help
I was banded two weeks ago. I was on clear liquids for the first week and then was told I could add liquid yougurt and protein drinks. I was told I should use Glucerna since I am diabetic. Used it during my pre op diet and surprisingly, tastes good. The nutritionist told me I need to drink 30g of protein a day. Glucerna only has 10 g. I am only getting about maybe 14-15grams / day. I tried the protein powder drinks and they were nasty. Couldn't stomach them. Why do you have to have 30g of protein and what happens if you don't get it?

Can I get support from my July banisters n if you are from N.C.
I have had no problems sleeping. I took a pain pill the first night at the hotel so I could sleep but didn't really need it. Believe it or not, I am not hungry. It is all I can do to eat. I told my daughter I could make a good anorexic. I love the fact that I am losing and want to keep on losing. Any way I can. This has been such a positive move for me. Haven't hit any snags yet.

Can I get support from my July banisters n if you are from N.C.
Just relax and be optimistic. I was banded the 16th of this month and I feel great. The pounds are dropping and no depression. I was banded in Mexico and haven't yet tried to find someone for fills, but there are a lot of doctors here in Michigan. Are you going to Mexico? Who is doing your surgery? Dr. Ortiz did mine and it was first class all the way.
