  1. Well, if we are what we eat, then I must be fast, cheap, and easy!
  2. The doc knew ahead of time to look for a hernia that showed up on th EDG scope. Once he got to actually see it, he decided that it was too small to fool with.
  3. I used that list from the National Institute of Health as well when working with my team to determine qualifying co-morbdities. I was told to include anything on that list that caused complications for anyone I was related to. So, we added my mother's premature death at the age of 67 (only four years older than I am now). She was 5'2" and weighed 320 when she died of an Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm - a complication of her own obesity. We included my dad's two heart attacks, and my brother's heart attack and premature death at the age of 47 (he weighed around 420 pounds and the funeral was delayed so that a double-sized coffin could be built). Here is the list if anyone wants to use it for inspiration: Obesity Comorbidities To follow is a list of comorbidities (additional conditions or diseases) related to obesity which may help you in qualifying for weight loss surgery. Family history of heart disease Family history of stroke Family history of diabetes Family history of heart attacks Hyperinsulinemia Diabetes High blood pressure Coronary-artery disease Hypertension Migraines or headaches directly related to obesity or cranial hypertension Congestive heart failure Neoplasia Dyslipidemia Anemia Gallbladder disease Osteoarthritis Degenerative arthritis Degenerative disc Degenerative joint disease Recommended joint replacement from specialist Accelerated degenerative joint disease Asthma Repeated pneumonia Repeated pleurisy Repeated bronchitis Lung restriction Gastroesophageal reflex (GERD) Excess facial & body hair (Hirsutism) Rashes Chronic skin infections Excess sweating Frequent yeast infections Urinary stress incontinence Menstrual irregularity Hormonal abnormalities Polycystic ovaries Infertility Carcinoma (breast, colon, uterine cancer) sleep apnea Pseudotumor cerebri Depression Psychological/sexual dysfunction Social discrimination Premature death in the immediate family
  4. This thread reminds me of Bonnie Raitt's song "Let's Give Them Something To Talk About......let's give them something to figure out."
  5. Pre-op prep at 6 a.m. Transported to O R 7a.m. 1st patient of the day Into recovery around 8 a.m. Into a patient room around 9 a.m. 3 hour wait for my boyfriend, but just seemed like a nice little nap to me.
  6. Yep. We may as well tape that stuff to our hips.
  7. On days like that, a shower always helps. Also, I make sure I open up the window shades so that I am not hididng in acave.
  8. My sample meals for a day come out to about 64 grams protein, 50 grams carbs, and 800 calories.
  9. Every time a bariatric surgery is approved, an angel gets its wings.
  10. The hair thing is really a blind crapshoot. I did not lose any, while some folks suffer miserably. Just prepare for it and hope for the best.
  11. Sweat and ketosis is just fat crying.
  12. Think of the contents of the candy jar as pretty little pieces of rat poison. While you are at it, do not stop at McPoison's, Poison King, Poison Bell, or TGIP (Thank Goodness it's Poison).
  13. if I have tea at all, it is decaf. Green tea tastes like feet.
  14. The sleeve totally resolved my gerd issues. I still do not take chances with caffein, but I am able to eat tomatoes and foods with mild salsa. I had a small hiatal hernia, but the surgeon said it was too small to bother with.
  15. Caffein was a major contributor to my pre-op reflux. I do not want to go there again.
  16. Oh yeah, this too......tell them you think the dog might have licked the brownies.
  17. If you must go and have no one who will intervene on your behalf, then start monitoring the crap they all eat and then expound relentlessly on your new found knowledge of human nutrition......then bite off a big ol' piece of cheese and enjoy it. Then give them your doctor's number so that they can call him/her to complain about your post-op plan. It is ok to get mad, especially when they are being rude to you. They are not thinking about your feelings or bothered that they are humiliating you.......so you have Miss Mac's permission to have that grown-up hissy fit. Even Jesus turned over a few tables when people pushed his buttons.
  18. Not that, but I got blisters where my bandaids were on two of my incisions, but not the other two...go figure.
  19. Become the family genealogist for your generation. Ever since I retired, this is what has kept me out of trouble.
  20. Congratulations on your surgery and your pending divorce. The peace of mind you get will be priceless. I got a divorce in 2005 and had to move very far away out of his lazy zone to get him and his family off my back.
  21. Popcorn is on my "not easily tolerated" list.
  22. A few bites was all I could eat for a long time. I started out with a recommendation of 1/3 cup plus 2 tablespoons, but some days, even that was a bit much. Even now at nearly a year, a cup is too much. And to think I used to eat a full plate of food and go back for seconds!
  23. My surgery was on 12/23/2013. I feel like I have given up every vice there was, except there was no way that I was giving up artificial sweeteners. Any coincidence that I have been on a plateau for nearly six months and the minute I finally give up sweeteners, the weight started falling off again????? I am convinced.
  24. Here is a link to a thread about NSV's, those little non-surgical victories that help you feel like bariatric surgery is worth the angst and inconvenience. Maybe it will help you decide. http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/195065-you-know-you-lost-weight-when/page-21?hl=%2Bnsv#entry3548506
  25. Don't say another word to her about it, and then go do what you want. By the way, does Miss Friend have weight issues herself and will be left in the dust if you get healthy? Or is she an itty bitty thing who never ever had a weight problem? Either way, it sounds like she doesn't get you. Your need to be healthy is more important than her need to have such a strong influence on your decisions. Go get healthy and happy, dear.
