Any recent Self Payers in Texas out there?
I'm curious to know this as well...if you can send me a message. Alegna, not to be too personal, but how is your credit. I'm graduating from grad school and my credit is not so great. I wonder if I should start now to clear all debts before I apply in December. And how long does approval take? Do they accept a cosigner?

Othopedic Surgery after being banded?
You may be able to get a regional block, where they only anesthetize the limb they will work on. If you need general anesthesia it might be a good idea to get an unfill to avoid damage to the band if you vomit post-op. ask your anesthesiologist.

What I think of Oprah's show today!
Ok, you don't like the phrase "the easy way out". But would you have the same resulting weight loss without the band? Would you be -70 lbs and achieved the success you have with just diet and exercise? If the answer is no, then the band definitely made the battle a little easier to fight. .

Anyone try to combine lapband w/another abdominal surgery?
Highly unlikely this will occur. Gynecologists are trained and certified to do tubal ligations, general surgeons are not. A general surgeon has to get special training to do lap-band procedures, gyncologists do not do these procedures. The most commonly "combined" procedure with the lapband would be a gallbladder removal.

Has anyone died from a lapband?
Yes people have died from having lapband surgery. The number is more than 1% but it's not an extremely dangerous procedure. You need to compare and contrast the risk to benefit ratio of getting the band versus using diet/exercise versus carrying your current weight. After you have done all that, then you can decide if the risk is worth it. But it is still a surgery and one should understand that there is a risk of death and morbidity.

Well respected OB/GYN dies from banding complications...
It's often that someone goes on a flight and catches sepsis. Happens to me all the time.

Considering Dr. Merola, New York Hospital Queens
I don't know anything about him...but I will be taking a job there and was looking into getting the surgery done there too. Maybe they give some sort of employee discount or something. Also wondering if they take employee insurance (aetna).

The Photo Album Forum
It's a public forum. It's not just for you and your buds. Duh. Regardless, this is the rants and raves forum. I get to vent. And now there's a bunch of other nonsense pictures. Blah.

Can someone give me a review on the Mesquite office? I'm giving myself this surgery as a graduation present next year and will be going to the Mesquite office since it is the closest to my home. I'm wondering how packed the waiting room is and how long the wait is generally? How long in advance do you have to make an appointment? Who's giving the fills? How long does it take to give a fill?

the boyfriend update for those who wonder
92 pounds due to a device in your abdomen. Weed isn't going to overcome that. But that doesn't change the fact that you're wrong.
-
The Photo Album Forum
The photo album should be related to weight loss. Looking at 5 pictures of your leg tattoo or your pitbull to thousands of strangers is pointless.

the boyfriend update for those who wonder
Smoking marijuana does increase appetite. In certain places cancer patients are "encouraged" to use it to encourage appetite. It definitely won't help you in your goal to lose weight.

The Photo Album Forum
Am I wrong in assuming that the purpose of the albums should be to display pre vs. post band weight loss? When ppl post pictures of their families or a million pictures of themselves pre-band and no post-surgery stuff it's so irritating. It's a waste of time to open up an album only to see pictures of some stranger's family vacation or pet animal. I really look forward to looking at progress pics in the weight loss thread and the albums. It gives me so much motivation. It is one of the reasons why I visit this forum so often. But when 10 albums in a row is non-weightloss photos...

Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum
Thanks Denver girl! My BMI is over 35 but under 40. i don't have any comorbidities. I hate to have to lie to him and say I do. plus. wouldn't I have to show proof of medical treatment for one of those comorbidites?

Paying for the lapband
That credit card transfer idea is a great idea. I'm wondering, though, how easy it is for me to get a credit card with a $10000 limit, considering this is my first real job and I haven't built a credit history yet.

Paying for the lapband
THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE QUICK REPLY! My BMI currently is 37.3. and I have no comorbidities. I don't think many insurance plans will approve me with that. Is take home really $1200 on a $40,000 a year salary? That is only $24K. That's AWFUL. :tongue_smilie:

Does Dr. Kirshenbaum take patients with a 35 BMI and no health issues?

Paying for the lapband
Next year i will be graduating from school. I plan to pay for lapband out of pocket. My yearly salary starting out will be ~$40,000. I don't know what my take home will be. I'm not married, no kids, my only debt is my college loans (in excess of $100K but can and will be deferred). Is it reasonable to think that I can afford the average monthly payments? Should I wait a few years, save up money instead of getting a $10000 loan (and pray the economy is better?)

Dr. Barker
I was looking on the dallas morning news website. it looks like he is offering lapband for $10500.

Big Head Syndrome
Oh yea...Star Jones has a big ass head. I mean, I'm quite aware that I have a big head. I'm not ashamed or embarrassed by it. It is what it is. And I'm a pretty girl despite it. I'm actually looking forward to being a lollipop.

Big Head Syndrome
Congratulations to those of you that made goal. But I have a question, does your head appear really big compared to your now skinny body (i.e. Star jones appearance?)? I don't know why I was thinking about this this morning. I already have an enormous sized head. I can't imagine what I'll look like after. Like a human bobble toy.
