  1. I will be off line for about a week due to surgery
  2. Surprise, Surprise. My twin brother, a man who has never taken a day off in 40 years, just called me for my surgery info [August 01] because he is taking a vacation day to be at the hospital with me. :-)
  3. Just a few hours to go. My surgery's today.
  4. Just a few more hours to go now.
  5. just a few hours to go. Thanks Georgia, I will keep everyone posted.
  6. As a divorced mom, I was the sole source of support and motivation for my children. My daughter is now a news producer and my son is a photographer [he's photographying my weight loss journey]. Now my children are my support and motivation as I battle to get healthy. They watched my struggle to get control of Fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue, they are confident I will take control of my weight.
  7. Thank you nicolenik17. I have Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue so I already use an electric scooter when I go to conferences. My surgeon says I will be able to restart my pain meds so I'm not too nervous about traveling [maybe].
  8. I have 1 daughter and 1 son, they have teamed up to ack as personal trainers for me. My son already walks our dog for about 20-30 minutes a day and has taken me out for short walks with the intention of building my walks. My daughter has an 18 month daughter and we walk her and take her to the park. My son lives with me and keeps on me about my protein shakes, breathing exercises, etc. They want their mom to be healthy and I keep up because I want to be able to be a motivation to them.
  9. NewBeginningsForMe2012 and tparkerc59 you are both so inspiring. I have my surgery in 2 days. I look forward to taking my grandchildren to the beach and for walks without have to stop to catch my breath. I look forward to baking special birthday cakes for them for many years to come.
  10. Today I'm a little weak. Guess my body is finally reacting to no solid food.
  11. Thanks Chelenka.
  12. Today is the third day of the pre-op diet. I don't know what is more bothersome, the nausea or the constant running to the bathroom. Well at least I've lost 9 pounds :-)
  13. Thanks kw@walk whenever anyone says anything negative, I think about the health problems I will be correcting.
  14. Thanks Georgia, How has life been since your surgery? Several people have scoufed at me for going ahead with it because I am over.
  15. I am will have my surgery on August 01, 2013 at Little Company of Mary Hospital in the Chicago Metro area. I have Fibro, degenerative disc disease, bilateral carpal tunnel and bilateral plantar fasciitis, and Migraine headaches. I was on heavy duty medication and could not tolerate them. I am hoping to have a successful VSG!!! I have had Fibro since 1992. I was a police officer and sustained a series of injuries on the job. I have been struggling with my weight ever since. Besides having a family history of obesity and obesity related death, the various meds used to treat my pain have resulted in my weight problems. Beside FM, I have sleep apnea, bilateral carpal tunnel and plantar fasciitis, degenerative disc disease, chronic fatigue, Migraines, high blood pressure and cholesterol I think I am realistic about my upcoming surgery. Even though I have heard that weight loss reduces the symptoms of Fibromyalgia, I am undergoing surgery to improve my overall health and reduce my obesity related risks. If my Fibro gets better, that will be a wonderful benefit. If my Fibro gets worse, then that is anticipated possible side effect.

  17. Welcome to the Fibromyalgia/chronic pain sleevers group Fibromyalgia and other chronic pain conditions can prove a major barrier to weight management. Research has shown that fibromyalgia continues to be a common but largely undertreated problem in overweight and obese patients and can often pose a significant barrier to increasing physical activity. So the questions I hope to see addressed in this group are: For those of us who have not had the surgery yet, what are your expectations about “How VSG will affect your Fibromyalgia/chronic pain?” For those of us who have not had the surgery yet, have you included you Fibro/pain management doctor as a part of your weight loss team? For those with Fibromyalgia/chronic pain who have already had surgery, did you see an improvement in your pain or an increase? Any experienced people with input would be so welcome. Let's share information and support each other since we all have special challenges with our conditions. Good luck and best wishes to all! We can do this!
  18. Hi everyone, I'm new here. Has any faced "culturally-based" opposition? My family is from New Orleans and I'm considered one of the smallest. When I announced that I was having the surgery so many family members got mad and proclaimed that I was betraying my heritage. UH, my heritage is morbid obesity and obesity related death.
  19. I'm also August 01. 5 days and counting.
  20. Hi everyone, I'm new here. I am 56 and a grandmother of a couple of little ones. I guess all those little plates, bowls and sliverware will get more use now.
  21. I was wondering how I might feel a month out because I am attending a conference, "PainWeek 2013" in Vegas the first week of September. Unfortunately this was planned and paid for last year. My surgeon has approved my trip since I will be traveling with my best friend who is a doctor.
  22. Thanks tconn25 and Ready4Change13. Well I made it through the first day of liquid only. By the end of the day I felt nauseous. We CAN DO THIS!!!!!
