Thanks TV-Duhhh!!!. I am having my surgery at Little Company of Mary Hospital. Any other LCMers out there? I have Fibromyalgia and am worried about an increase in my pain level. My team has been great, they've had experience with others with Fibro.

Hi everyone, I'm a newbie to this site. I live on the southwest side, Midway Airport area, my surgery is August 01.

My doctor says I can continue taking it through surgey.

My surgery is Aug 01 also. Yesterday I started my pre-op diet. It is liquid, yuk.

Well today was my first full day of pre-op diet. Yuk!!!!

just got back from the pre-op meeting. Presented the education sheet from FIF and everything listed will be followed. :-) I will be able to continue taking my new Fibro meds no problem.

Thanks AmyInOrlando. As I get closer to surgery date, I realize how lucky I am that my mother and grandmother didn't force me to learn my ancestrial cooking. Now what to do about all the cakes I like to bake? :-)

I have an evening appointment with my surgeon's assistant tonight. The purpose is last minute instructions and Q & A. I found a patient education sheet "Guidance for Fibromyalgia Patients who are having Elective Surgery" on the website of the Fibromyalgia Information Foundation. I'm printing out a copy and taking it to my appointment tonight. Everyone at the hospital seems knowlegeable about FM and its affects on post-op recovery but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

It's been a long road to get to this point. I've walked this road with my 2 children, my sister, and my best friend [who just happens to be a doctor]. For years my doctor's have been warning me to lose weight. My sister and I have tried various programs [diet and exercise] to no avail. I didn't come to the decision to undergo surgery at the flip of a coin. I purposely waited until today, 1 week pre-op, to tell my extended family and friends because they are not always supportive of what I want to do for myself. Also, my mother's side of the family is Nawlins born and bred. They are the biggest [no pun intended] weight loss sabatougers. They think I am too skinny. Well, I made my announcement today and most of the family ignored me. I'm turning all the phones off.

I'm hoping the surgery will help because I've developed allergies to Fibro meds that I've been taking for years. I don't know what is worse, the FM pain, the weight related probems or the allergic reactions.

I have Fibromyalgia. My doctor has been on me to lose weight forever. I've been researching weight loss's affects on FM pain and fatigue for about as long [on a personal level not as a professional]. Unfortunately, there is no concrete scientific opinion, just with FM itself, for every expert that says weight loss via bariatric surgery will help improve Fibro - there's one that says surgery will not improve Fibromyalgia and may make it worse. I guess its like treating Fibro, each patient is different. I have my surgery August 01, 2013. Good Luck
