    Anyone go to Mexico solo?

I went alone. (Now) ex-husband wouldn't go with me. Had no problems at all. But then, I'm used to travelling by myself, so . . . it was easy for me. Be sure to wear your compression stockings, going and coming! Had a friend didn't wear them on the way home, got a blood clot. They caught it early, and she's fine, but you can die from that!
  3. Anyone going to Mexico in June, 2015? I will be flying in on June 14th, surgery on June 15th with Dr. Fernando Garcia. Anyone else going to be in TJ in June? Who is your surgeon? When will you be there?
  4. I've heard good things about Dr. Lopez and Dr. Ortiz. I'm in Mexico now, had surgery yesterday with Dr. Fernando Garcia and everything has been good. I'm feeling very well, better than I expected!
  5. Because I'd researched doctors and I just chose Dr. Garcia. A lot of people seemed to be happy with him, so I just went with it. I looked at his website, read a lot of his blogs, joined his FB page and looked out there, and I just thought I would be happy with him. I've seen a lot of people that are very happy with A Lighter Me, also. If I hadn't gone with Dr. Garcia, I would have chosen ALM. I didn't really look at Dr. Zavalza that much, so I don't know that much about him. Sorry, I don't have much more information than that. Good luck with your WLS voyage, whichever way you go.
  6. Good luck, alindsey, hope everything goes great for you!
  7. No, I'm going by myself. If you'll be staying at the Marriott, I should see you there. I am also flying on June 14 from DFW into San Diego. My surgery is on June 15 with Dr Jesus Martin Lopez in TJ. Maybe we will meet each other there. My husband is traveling with me. Is anyone going with you?
  8. Good, KerMer - I should see you in the hospital. If you have a Facebook account, we have a group called June 2015 Sleevers, you're welcome to join us. Some of us will be in US, some in MX, but they've been very helpful and kind.
  9. Oh, great - we'll be there at the same time! Are you getting nervous? If you have a Facebook account, we have a page called "June 2015 Sleevers" that you might want to join - some of us will be in the States and some of us in MX, but everyone has been really supportive and nice to talk to!

    Extended release anti-depressants

Thanks everyone, this has been very helpful. I was on Effexor for 8 years and a couple of months ago it just stopped working. So I'm not on anything right now and having terrible anxiety attacks - about everything, work, home, getting ready for surgery - YIKES. Going back to dr. next week to see if there isn't some new anti-depressant I can take. I'm getting sleeved in August, and I've been wondering what to do about all the pills I take. The only one I know I'm going to be comfortable with is my thyroid med, its just a tiny thing.
  11. Thanks for posting all of this. I'm scheduled in August and starting to get kind of worried about it all. What kind of problems are you having with the post-op diet, if I can ask?
  12. Texas, you're lucky. I've seen more than one person on these boards say that their PCP wouldn't support them if they went to Mexico for the surgery. Thank GOD, mine is so supportive he's talking (joking) about going with me! But I'm pretty sure that she should be able to get release papers from her surgeon.
  13. That's funny, the first thing I thought of was "Lies, damned lies and statistics" when my doctor send me his statistics. But you know, if I'm going to trust him to do surgery on me, I might as well trust him to give me the correct statistics to start with.

    Surgery in Mexico

I agree, its sad what happened to her, but it could have happened in the US or Canada, too. I believe the new story neglected to mention that part.

    Question for Ladies over 50!

I'm 58 years old, and 17 years past complete hysterectomy and have very little pubic hair left. Did cut down on the hair on my legs, too, though, so that was a bonus! I told my hairdresser about getting ready to have the surgery (hopefully, 8/11/14) and that I might start losing hair and she just laughed and laughed and said, "Oh, then you'll be down here with the rest of us!". I have a lot of head hair. We'll see what happens. Take care, everyone.
  16. Glad your mom finally came around. Couple of comments on the posts: "gotta love her" - ah, no, I really don't have to. For the lady that still misses her mom, you're lucky. When my mom passes, my primary reaction will be relief. When I told my mom that I was going to have WLS sometime in 2014, she told me she was glad because she had talked to others (don't know who else, she didn't talk to my siblings) about having an intervention with me about my weight. Yep, that's my mama! Since I told her that I was going to go to MX to have it done because its the only way I'll ever be able to afford it, the subject has never been mentioned again. I won't be telling her before I leave. Glad for you that have supportive moms but some of us aren't that lucky. Take care, all. Thanks for letting me vent, too.
  17. This is going to sound like a dumb question, I think, but do you take your CPAP to the hospital when you are in for surgery? I've been using it for about 6 years, and I'm fine with it - my sleep apnea isn't that bad, but, like everyone in my family, I snore very loudly.
  18. My PCP is great about it. I won't be having the surgery until sometime next year because I have to save up enough money to do it. But I'm going to Mexico, and he was fully supportive, wants to see all the paperwork and will help me make an informed decision. He'll even talk to my husband for me, since my hubby was a little leery of MX. But since Doc says its OK, and he'll work with me on it, hubby is on board.
  19. Thank you for all the information, everyone. I really appreciate it.
  20. I'm about 6 months into research for a sleeve. My insurance will not cover it at all. No way, no how. How much did Dr. Garcia cost? Do you go to a hotel? Is that covered in the cost? Thanks very much for all your posts - this is a tough decision to make, but I certainly can't afford to self-pay in the States.
