I remember being in the third grade and having a group of girls call me "pudgy pumpkin". That has always stuck with me. Even as I went through middle school, where I was now "pudgier" and more awkward than ever before, my lack of self control regarding food hand't really sunk in. Besides having to shop in the "pretty plus" section at Sears instead of Limited too, I was also a member of the bad hair cut and acne club. It wasn't until (in the same week) a class mate told me to get proactive and my dad had caught me eating ice cream out of the freezer at 2 am that I decided to do something with my weight. The summer leading up to eight grade, I did weight watchers with my dad's girlfriend. That paired with exercise helped me slim down. I felt good when school went back and had more confidence. That confidence continued through that year and I actually tried out for and made cheer at the high school! Now I felt like the pressure was on. I wasn't as good as the other girls, so I worked hard; running, stretching, and forcing myself to crash diet. The weight stayed off for most of high school. When I went away to college, I hurt my knee and was unable to exercise or dance like I had before. I used my injury as an excuse to make ice cream sandwiches out of doughnuts! It has been six years since I graduated from high school (almost exactly) and I have gained over 130 lbs!! I met my now husband about 2 and a half years ago and just since we have been together, I have put on roughly 50 lbs. I have struggled with my weight all my life and now I am deciding to have the gastric sleeve. I figure now is the best time really. Aside from being "morbidly" obese, I do not have any other medical issues (weight related) and would like to take advantage of whatever youthful elasticity my skin has left in it (at 23)! I am nervous as hell and until they cut me open I still worry that things won't work out! But nerves aside, I truly am super excited for what's to come!!
