If you have a potentially difficult airway it is a completely normal & safe method to secure your airway with the breathing tube while you are spontaneously breathing BEFORE being put to sleep completely. That is almost exactly what they told me. Glad you mentioned the word safe I was kind of nervous about the whole procedure. Thanks for that input!

My surgery is scheduled for 1pm tomorrow. Clear liquids only until that time. God bless you all. See you on the losers bench!

Thanks guys. The anesthesiologist asked me to open my mouth and stick out my tongue and they determined that they didn't think they would be able to put me to sleep and safely place the oxygen tube. They stated they would rather be safe than sorry. But on the day of surgery they will look again to make sure otherwise I would receive a local before I received the general.

You're right they did say I will receive an iv (a local) but will be be able to hear everything but won't feel anything. Sorry I may not be explaining it correctly.

I went to get clearance from the anesthesiologist and was told they didn't feel comfortable putting me to sleep before They were able to put the oxygen tube in. So now I will have to be sudated and my mouth and throat numbed then the oxygen tube can be placed in my throat then they will put me to sleep. Has anyone ever had this problem?

I thought I was the only one who didn't tell. Everyone thinks I'm going out of town on vacation ! My mom, dad and children are the only ones who knows the truth.

H all. My surgery is May 20 and my children have an awards ceremony on the 27th. I really don't want to miss it so I was just wondering how all of you post op sleepers are feeling days after surgery and how soon did you get back out and start doing things outside of the home?

I've been in the pre op diet since May 1. The first few days were horrible then the days after were better but I would mess up my evening meal by eating fast food. Now in my final week I am doing well. What made me began to do things right, I kept asking myself what are you going to do if the surgeon doesn't do your surgery because your liver hasn't shrunk enough. I would be devastated! So I would suggest you find 1 reason why you want to have the surgery and focus on that every time you think about eating outside of the box.

May 20 is my date. Day 1 of pre op diet

Hi all my surgery date is May 20 with Dr Elli @ UIC. I start liquid only diet tomorrow. Went shopping today. I had my last prep appointment with my dr today and my blood pressure was 137/95. Thar has never happened before. I was so nervous u just kept telling myself u aren't having surgery today get it together. Nice to talk to some fellow Chicagoans!

Hi everyone new to the site. I am having my surgery @ Uic with dr. Eli. After waiting months I am finally approved. My next dr appointment to get the surgery date is in April 30/ can't wait!
