  1. I'm so tired of being on the fence about having surgery. I've been going through all the steps, appointments and requirements for the last 6 months. I already have a surgery date the end of July. But for some reason, I am so afraid of going through with the surgery. It's something I've researched for several years. And I keep telling myself I should try to lose the weight on my own with diet and exercise. But with every attempt to lose weight, I just continue to fail. What finally pushed you over the edge? I need a push!
  2. Amazing! What a transformation!
  3. Thanks for sharing. I like the concept swimming with the stream because that is so true. I feel like every attempt has been up stream with little results.
  4. Thank you for responses! I'm ready to move forward in the right direction!
  5. Why do I keep trying to do this on my own without surgery? I have been a professional dieter for over 20 years. Up and down. Up and down. I've gotten to the point where I don't want to try it on my own anymore because I know that I won't be successful and lose anything significant. I'm about 80-100 pounds overweight and I just need to do it! My insurance won't cover any type of WLS so I guess that keeps holding me back. Plus, I guess in the back of my head I'm afraid I will fail at this too. Thoughts? I need to do this. I feel like I've wasted 20 years trying to make this work. Thanks:)
  6. Thank you! Actually had a consult with him today. He walked in wearing shorts and tennis shoes. Looked at my 20 pages of paperwork and said, "do you have any questions for me?" Never once asked me one question! Had to pay $170 for his "consult" which lasted about 10 minutes. Ridiculous!! So not impressed. Waste of my time and money!
  7. Comments and opinions on Dr Barker? I have heard positives and negatives. What are your feelings? I am self pay.
  8. Anyone going to Mexico with this group?
  9. Good luck! Thinking of you!
  10. Thanks for your responses! I appreciate them. I will keep you posted on my decision!
  11. Hello OCC Ladies. I've been researching doctors for almost a year. I've now saved up enough money to pay for the procedure in full and I'm wanting to book a day and follow through with it! I'm a teacher and would like to do this early June when school is out. I actually called a local surgeon this week to see what he charges for self-pay. He's about double what Dr Ortiz charges. Any thoughts? I am ready to do this! But for some reason, I am a big chicken!
  12. Researching Dr Ortiz and Dr Aceves. Both look like good options but I continue to scare myself out of committing to one. I've been saving up money for over a year and have enough to pay for the surgery in full, so I'm ready to set a date and move forward! Thanks for the detailed posts!
  13. Thanks for the detailed posts. I have been researching for almost a year.
  14. How is everyone doing now? Still researching doctors and options but Dr A is at the top of my list.
  15. I'm in the same boat as you. My insurance won't cover any type of WLS so I'm researching Mexico, too. I'm looking into Dr Ortiz at OCC in Tijuana and Dr G. Alvarez. Have heard good things about both, but need to decide if I'm going to go through with it! My husband thinks I'm crazy but after showing him their websites and testimonials, he didn't think I was as crazy:)
  16. I'm scheduled the end of July with Dr Ortiz, too. Would love to hear everyone's tips and experiences!
  17. I have a day scheduled in July, too. I have to send in my deposit this week but for some reason I keep talking myself out of it. I keep saying to myself, just try another diet... But obviously if that would work, I would have done it years ago! After you finally scheduled your surgery, were you at peace with your decision?
  18. I'm looking into a date in July. One minute I am excited and ready to do it, then the next minute I tell myself to try another diet. But after trying every diet out there for the last 20 years, I'm ready to be sucessful! I just haven't gotten up the nerve to tell my parents and I don't know what their reaction will be. Saying, "oh by the way, I want to have 80% of my stomach removed in Mexico" may not go over too well.

  20. Thank you for your responses!
  21. Was everyone happy with Dr Alvarez? Trying to decide on a doctor for this summer and looks like he has a lot of nice feedback.
