An NSV to B**ch about!
- exercising?!
I started walking two days post op, albeit short distances. After about 2 weeks, I was walking and/or biking for 30-40 minutes a day. Added swimming as soon as the wounds were completely healed (think it was at 6 weeks or so, can't remember). Wasn't cleared for weights until about 16 weeks, however it was moderate...nothing too strenuous. At 20 weeks, I started hitting the weights aggressively and haven't looked back! Good luck on a speedy recovery and get ready, you're in for one heck of an awesome journey!- Fluid Intake
I was drinking as much as I wanted, around 3-4 days post-op...scared the heck outta me! Have since learned, everyone is different...some can only take in a small amount of fluids (sip, sip, sip), while others are fortunate enough to tolerate much more. I had far more restriction when I got to the mushy stage, i.e. the more dense the food, the less intake. I wouldn't be overly concerned, just go with what feels tolerable for you. Good luck...you're in for one heck of a journey!- Garlic
I added garlic powder, as well as a few other spices, to broth when I was on Clear liquids...never had any ill effects from it. However, if you're uncomfortable/unsure, call your doctor or nutritionist. Good luck, this stage will be a distant memory before you know it!- Coffee?
I would think it's okay, however you may want to check with your Dr. or nutritionist...just to make sure. I started drinking decaf a few days after surgery, then real coffee again (the leaded stuff, no decaf! ) at about 5-6 weeks. Some folks tolerate it fine and others have issues. Good luck and Godspeed on your journey!- Goal weight met!
Looking like that doesn't just happen, I'm sure it took a lot of hard work...you have every right to shout it out! Congrats!- 3 weeks out and depressed...
Give yourself time, I promise it will get easier...just gotta give your new stomach time to adjust, don't rush it. The first 5-6 weeks were the most challenging, however before you know it, this period will be a distant memory! Good luck and hang on...you're in for one heck of a journey!- Exercise routine
I was sleeved May 2013 and my wife exactly 2 months later...I'm 117 lbs. down (at goal...yeah baby! ) and my bride is 80 lbs. less the woman she once was (almost to her goal!). My wife does strictly cardio (walking/swimming), no weight training. I do only weight training, with the exception of weekends, i.e. mow the lawn in the morning, then spend most of the day in the pool, albeit more lounging around than swimming! I copied a standard workout routine from some bodybuilding website and just follow it. Chest on Mondays, arms on Tuesdays, legs on Wednesdays, everything else (shoulders, traps, lats, back, etc.) on Thursdays, chest and arms again on Fridays. My wife is going to start hitting the weights with me tomorrow, in an attempt to jump start her current stall. I think you'll find, as the lbs. come off, exercising (regardless of type) will become so much easier...and addictive too! Good luck on your journey!- I NEED EFFIN COFFEE!
I started drinking decaf a few days after surgery, then real coffee again (the leaded stuff, no decaf! ) at about 5-6 weeks. I'm a little over a year out and I now drink about 6-8...sometimes 10 cups a day. Splenda, a little Hershey's cocoa powder and/or sugar-free vanilla Coffee-Mate. I know, I know...that's a lot of coffee and it's really bad for me and my heart will probably explode and it affects global warming and...whatever! I enjoy it and thus far it hasn't had a negative impact, so I'm drinkin' it! Some folks tolerate it fine and others have issues. Good luck and Godspeed on your journey!- You're so vain...
Although I've always thought she was a stunner, after 11 months and 80 lbs., my wife feels as beautiful on the outside, as she is on the inside! There's nothing wrong with wanting to look attractive...confidence is attractive on a lady! Gotta go...I'm heading out the door to take my hottie dancin', gotta show off a pretty gal....."wobble baby, wobble baby, wobble baby, wobble..."!- i just have to say it...
Awesome! Congratulations!- coffee

Yep, me too! My wife is post-menopausal and prior to the surgery ole' Ms. Psycho, uh-hm...I mean my bride was always hot! (Something about a poker hand...a hot flush??) Anyway, now she and I are both always cold...guess it's a byproduct of losing the vast majority of our insulation. Oh well, hopefully it'll translate to a lower electric bill this summer!- This is NOT the "magic pill" I hoped for! I need help with my bad food choices ASAP
Not to sound harsh, but damn it, you know what to do, now that you've undergone this major/life-changing surgery...quit whining and just do it! The first two months were the most challenging for me, as well as almost everyone else! You will get through this, however you have to want it, nobody can do it for you...and trust me, you do want it! This has been a blessing for me and my wife (she was sleeved exactly 2 months after me)...and you will see, the transformation will be friggin' incredible! You cannot fathom how much the weight loss is going to change your life...you just gotta get through the gettin' through! Good luck and Godspeed for a quick recovery! (Tough love rant over! )- Recently Lost a Best Friend Because of My Decision to Get Bariatric Surgery
One of my favorite quotes... “Those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.”Good luck...you're in for one heck of a journey!- help
I was sleeved exactly 2 months prior to my wife. My surgery and recovery were textbook...zero complications. My wife on the other hand...she had two hernias repaired. She also had terrible reflux and an issue getting enough fluids. It took about a month for me to sleep with both eyes closed (in her state of mind, she was not to be trusted! ), however she is doing great now and that early period is a distant memory. I pray you have a speedy recovery and the same outcome as my bride. She is now 10 months out and we're lovin' life!- HELP! Im 13 days post op and maybe taking in too many fluids
I was drinking as much as I wanted, around 3-4 days post-op...scared the heck outta me too! Have since learned, everyone is different...some can only take in a small amount of fluids (sip, sip, sip), while others are fortunate enough to tolerate much more. Fantastic! You look great!- PLEASE! Dear God, Can I get some coffee?
I started drinking decaf the day after surgery, albeit just a few sips. Within a week or so, I was drinking the leaded stuff with no discomfort. Now everybody's tolerance is different and everyone has an opinion about whether or not we should drink it...I'd recommend following your doctor's advice. I now drink 6-8 cups a day...Splenda, a little Hershey's cocoa powder or SF vanilla coffee Mate. As a matter of fact, I'm enjoying a big cup of it right now! Good luck!- Boom!
Awesome! Keep on keepin' on!- Magic bullet vs Ninja master prep
My wife and I couldn't decide, so we bought a Nutri Bullet and a Ninja (I think the bullet was $99 and the particular model Ninja we bought was $199). In all honesty, we could have saved money and pantry shelf space by just using our existing blender! I'm sure there may be some very good reasons to purchase each of these appliances, however we didn't really use either of them but a few times. Good luck and Godspeed for a rapid recovery!- 8 Months & 120 Pounds Gone (& pics)
Awesome!- Never give up
What an incredible accomplishment! Congrats!- Working Out
I started walking two days post op, albeit short distances. After about 2 weeks, I was walking and biking for 30-40 minutes a day. Added swimming as soon as the wounds healed (think it was at 8 weeks or so, can't remember). Wasn't cleared for weights until about 16 weeks and then it was moderate, nothing too strenuous. At 20 weeks, I started hitting the weights aggressively and haven't looked back!- My Surgery is in 11 days and I'm kind of scared!
The anxiety is normal. This is major, life-changing surgery...if you weren't nervous, then you should panic!! This part of the process was undoubtedly the most difficult for me. However, it is all a distant memory now! I was sleeved May 8, 2013 and my wife July 8, 2013. While my surgery and recovery were textbook, hers was a bit more challenging. She had two hernias repaired and it took about 3-4 weeks for her to quit complaining...uh-hm, I mean start to feel better! Now, that period of time is a distant memory! She can tolerate just about everything, albeit in moderation. I can eat almost everything, but for some weird reason, still have a tough time with canned tuna fish!? I can eat steak, chicken, fresh tuna steaks, roast, crawfish, ribs, etc., etc....but canned tuna just doesn't sit well w/me. No worries, I can live without it! I am down 117 lbs. and hit my original goal around 4 months ago. My wife is down 80 lbs. and hit her goal about 3 months ago (She looks fantastic, but she's on a mission to lose more...I told her not to get carried away, I don't want to feel like I'm hugging a sack of hammer handles!). You are in for an awesome transformation! Just follow your doc's orders to the letter, allow your body time to heal, don't (DO NOT!) let the number on the scale dictate your feeling of success or failure (If you feel better and your pants are baggy, to hell with what the number is! LOL), move around (walk...exercise when you're ready) and I promise, the weight will melt off! You're in for one heck of a journey...Godspeed for a quick recovery! - exercising?!
