So we're y'all starving before your surgery, from the clear liquid pre-op diet?

Thank you....I just couldn't stand the thought of going through another weight loss surgery and coming out hungry! It's embarrassing to ask for food as the anesthesia wears off. I just can't wait for this surgery! 41 days but who's counting!

I had the lap band surgery 8 years ago and I came out of the surgery so hungry... in my drugged state I asked the nurses for food! After being on a clear liquid diet for a week I went into surgery dying of hunger and came out that way too. Will it be better with the sleeve surgery?

I have a friend that is starting chemo today she is young- in her thirties. She had the gastric sleeve done around 7 months ago. Did the sleeve cause the cancer? Or did the weight loss make it easier for her to feel the lump? I agree... live life to the fullest for sure.

I thought everything you said was insightful and never thought of comparing the "are you ready for this" to are you ready for parenthood but it is an excellent analogy. Thank you for posting. And for those that didn't like that she was "peddling" a book, you could have just ignored it and taken her advice/insights because it IS good info and that's what we're all here for!

NP... lol... that means no problem! I sure hope the OP seeks help, gets past her regrets and comes back here to help others that are feeling regretful. I believe this is a place to come to vent anything you are feeling even though regretting getting the sleeve is not what we want to hear I sure hope she was able to find help/comfort.

I'm calling shenanigans on the whole 3 docs said it would decrease life expectancy by specifically EIGHTEEN years! Why the hell would you have the surgery with doctors telling you that? OP... good luck and please know that you can make it through this bump in the road! I highly suggest you talk to your doctor about getting on an antidepressant. Also, I am a night nurse and I have trouble sleeping day and night, try 1/4 to an 1/8 a tablet of unisom. It's enough to get you to sleep without making you drowsy or dehydrated. A good nights sleep may help with your depression.

Insurance companies are crazy! When I had my upper GI I got billed twice for the anesthesia for the same procedure. I didn't understand because I only had one person doing the anesthesia during the procedure. I called the ins co and they said that my employers contract with the insurance co allowed for them to bill twice if a CRNA (nurse anesthetist) did the procedure. They billed $1200 for the MD that was in the building "in case the CRNA had any problems" and $1160 for the CRNA. I was so angry I refused to pay my 20% copay for the MD... insurance companies are really ridiculous sometimes!

Lmao! Really I'm sad that this thread has hurt people so much! I really don't think the person that started it intended to hurt, but was more trying to vent her frustrations. Big, little-big, super-big, mega-big... no matter what your size I think we can all agree this is an emotionally frustrating ordeal. I know what you mean! By the time I'm done even with insurance I'm going to owe plenty of money in co-pays. It better work- I feel like this is my last hope.

OMG... that is exactly what I'm worried about! I wondered if it didn't work as well for lower BMI people. Oh well....I can only pray for my surgeon to have skilled hands and know that she better take as much off my tummy as she does the larger patients!

I know what you mean about wanting to know how the "lightweighters" are doing. My BMI is in the mid 30's and I have concerns about how the surgeries are going for those that didn't have over 100 lbs to loose. My co-workers that have had it done have all lost down to tiny sizes; 5,6,8...but the one person that I know that had it done that had a lower BMI has only lost 35 lbs and can eat 3 to 4 times what the others can eat. I am afraid that the surgeons aren't near as aggressive with the surgery when you don't have as much to lose. She is completely unhappy whereas the others that started off much heavier than her have already met their goals at eight months out. (There are about 6 of us that work together- they are all done with their surgeries, I am the last to have it done and the smallest of the group). I am very nervous that the surgeon is going to leave me too much stomach and my surgery will fail.

I'd love to loose about 55 pounds. One thing you should be aware of is that different doctors get different results. I work with 4 women that have all had the sleeve surgery about the same time. All went through the same doctors office but one used a different surgeon than the others. The one person that used a different surgeon can eat about 4 times what the other ladies can eat. She has barely lost 40 pounds and is really having to work hard to get that weight off. She is about 5 months out and the other ladies are about 6 to 4 months out and have lost 95 to 60 pounds. Make sure you get a personal referral about your surgeon if you can!

Thanks for all the info! I called the doctors office and talked to someone that finally discussed my upper GI results and found out that the reason my band failed is because it's around my lower esophagus and not in the right spot. So my doc did a peer to peer and I just got approval!!!! I could not be more excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
