  1. Jean Exactly - and I love that phrase, will be sure to use it over my side of the pond!
  2. Very thought provoking article. While I understand some of the comments about singles/ people in bad relationships etc, as one of those people whose life has been horrendous in recent years (I am currently getting divorced after a bad ending to a long marriage), I want to read stuff like this. It is one person's opinion, that I can take or leave. I take ownership for all of my actions - even the ones that may put me in a bad light. All that I take from this kind of article is that if and when I do find a healthy new relationship, this may put my relationship with food in a new perspective. I am not taking it as a slight to me or that it is making me less of a person because it doesn't currently apply to me. Nor does it make me want to rush out and have an inappropriate or risky relationship But maybe that's just me, everyone is different. But please don't stop posting articles like this just because it doesn't apply to everyone.... articles can't be written with everyone in mind every time. I hope it will apply to me in future.... For now, lets not beat the article to death with caveats about "irresponsible sex can lead to pregnancy"etc. We are all grownups, reading this article isn't going to make me rush off and act out of character...
  3. Oh yes, real hot mommas coming through... Sorry Alex for hijacking this thread but shows real friendships have been made :-))))
  4. Revs, you know what I mean :-)))))) But yes, some are more real than others, lol xx
  5. I don't think I could have got through my surgery, recovery and everything that followed without this site. In the early days, I was lost and even with the support of a good bariatric team, being able to speak to people who'd been where I was was invaluable. I have made friendships that may be virtual but are very real. Now that I am pretty much at goal, I still hang out here and try to pay back all the advice and support I was given by patient souls. They might have been tired of the newbie who kept asking daft questions but they never showed it! Great site, genuinely useful and filling a need.
  6. Agree, Alex, realistic goals - and write them down! Goals shouldn't be static (although some will be fixed). For me, the best way to achieve my goals was to review them every month, not to beat myself up over what I hadn't done but to remind myself of what I had done. It is so easy to forget or minimise our achievements, we are all guilty of doing that. Our brains are programmed to go with the negative so it's up to us to keep chipping in with the positive. 2013 was a life changing year for me. I know that because I can read about all my goals -including the ones I had forgotten about - from last January and see them develop or be ticked off as the year went on. I don't have quite so many things on my list this year but I feel optimistic that I can achieve them all...

  8. Woohoo! Well done, you deserve to be successful. Now for your next goal - banish the word "only" from your vocabulary!!!! You haven't lost "only" 30lbs - you lost 30lbs that ain't coming back. Here's to the next 30lbs :-))))))
  9. Like many things, it's each to their own. I told few people in advance cos I didn't want their opinions or to have to allay their fears when I was dealing with my own. Post op, it was only when I had lost a fair chunk of weight that people starting commenting. At that point I started to tell everyone and anyone who'd listen, lol!!! I have shocked myself at how open I have been but I am very happy explaining it. The majority get why I had the surgery; most are blown away by me being "brave" doing it and at the results. No judgement. But as I say, there's no right or wrong way. I wasn't ashamed when I didn't tell, it was right for me then, in the way that it is right for me now to tell all.... Good luck, bet you look fab in the photo shoot with the new look :-)))))
  10. U r right, every doc has their "personal preferences" so it can seem odd that some of us can eat things earlier than others. But he or she also knows our personal medical histories so if ur doc says six months, that's when u should start trying red meat irrespective of what others are doing. Would it be bad if u ate it earlier - who knows? But why go against ur doc?
