Leg cramps - super painful!!
i Have Not Had Surgery Yet, But I Have Gotten Those Cramps Many Times, And They Hurt. I Was Told That The Body Is Lacking Potassium Which Can Be Found In Bananas. I Hope This Helps.

Hair Loss??
I HAVE NOT YET BEEN BANDED EITHER, BUT THE HAIR LOSS THING FREAKS ME OUT AS WELL. RIGHT NOW MY HAIR IS MY BEST ASSET AND I DON'T WANT TO LOSE IT. THE NUTRITIONIST SAID THAT I SHOULD NOT HAVE A PROBLEM WITH HAIR LOSS AS LONG AS I GET THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF PROTEIN. I HAVE ALREADY PURCHASED SOME PROTEIN POWDER AND HOPEFULLY THAT IS ENOUGH TO AVOID ANY HAIR LOSS. I HOPE THERE ARE OTHERS THAT WILL POST ABOUT THEIR EXPERIENCES.

Sleep Issues
:help: I AM NOT SURE WHAT IS GOING ON WITH ME THESE DAYS, BUT FOR THE LIFE OF ME I CANNOT SLEEP. FOR THE PAST 2 TO 3 WEEKS IT HAS BEEN THE SAME THING. I GO TO BED AROUND 11:00, SOMETIMES LATER. I TOSS AND TURN ALL NIGHT LONG. I CLOSE MY EYES, I OPEN MY EYES, I LOOK AT THE CLOCK, I GET UP TO PEE, I GO BACK TO BED AND STILL NO LUCK. I AM NOT SURE WHAT THE HECK IS HAPPENING. I MEET WITH THE SURGEON ON THURSDAY, AND AM VERY EXCITED ABOUT THAT. I AM NOT SURE IF I CAN'T SLEEP BECAUSE I AM CONSTANTLY THINKING ABOUT BEING BANDED. I ALSO HAVE TROUBLE CATCHING MY BREATH WHEN I AM IN BED. I AM SOOOO EXCITED, AND I DON'T EVEN HAVE A SURGERY DATE YET. I FEEL LIKE LATELY I AM JUST SO FULL OF ENERGY, I HAVE EVEN LOST MY APPETITE WHICH IS REALLY WEIRD, LOL. ANYWAY, DID ANY OF YOU FEEL THIS WAY, OR COULD THERE BE SOMETHING WRONG WITH ME. I THOUGHT THAT MAYBE IT COULD BE SLEEP APNEA, BUT OF COURSE I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT THE SYMPTOMS ARE. ANYONE THAT CAN SHED SOME LIGHT ON THIS PROBLEM? THANKS IN ADVANCE.

I found out today I must do a sleep apnia test.
mark, i Don't Mean To Sound Stupid, But What Is A Cpap, And What Does Having Apnea Have To Do With Having The Surgery. Just Curious.

What was the last straw?
pretty Much The Same Thing For Me. I Just Want To Be Able To Do Things With My Eight Year Old Daughter That I Couldn't Do With My Son Who Is Now 15. I Just Want My Kids To Be Proud Of Me. My Daughter Tells Me That It Is Not What Is On The Outside That Matters, But What Is On The Inside And That She Likes Me Just The Way I Am. I Told Her That This Was True, But That I Didn't Like Me The Way I Am. I Also Do Not Have A Sense Of Style. Even At Work, I Wore Jeans And T Shirts All The Time. I Want Some Style. I Always Say I Just Want To Be Able To See Those Beautiful Bones Right Below The Neck. I Can't Wait To Go Swimming With My Kids And Not Be Embarrased About How Fat I Am. I Want To Look And More Importantly Feel Healthy. This Heel Pain Is Not Fun. sweety

How soon can my husband & I be intimate?
I Was Told No Sex The First Week After Surgery. I Guess Some Doctors Have Different Thoughts On This, But Damn 8 Weeks. I Just Don't Think So!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anybody have a BMI of less than 35 before Lap Band Surgery?
i Hear That If Your Bmi Is At Least 35 With Comorbidities Such As Diabetes, Hypertension, High Blood Pressure Etc. That The Insurance Will Consider It. I Have A Bmi Of 37 And Am Diabetic, And I Have Already Undergone Most Of The Pre Op Tests. I Am Meeting W/the Surgeon Next Week, And Waiting For Ins. Approval. Hopefully A Surgery Date Isn't That Far Away. Best Of Luck To You. sweety

Brand new member Please tell me all you know about Dr. Joya!!!
BEST OF LUCK TO YOU JOHN. I DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT BEING BANDED IN MEXICO, BUT I'VE HEARD ONLY POSITIVE THINGS ABOUT IT. I DO HOWEVER KNOW WHAT IT IS LIKE TO CARRY THE EXTRA WEIGHT AS ALL OF US ON THIS SITE KNOW WHAT THATS LIKE. I TOO HAVE 2 KIDS, AND ITS NEVER TO LATE TO SET A GOOD EXAMPLE ABOUT GOOD EATING HABITS. I AM DIABETIC, AS WELL AS MY MOM, DAD, AND SISTER ARE. 2 OF MY GRANDPARENTS DIED OF HEART DISEASE, THE OTHER 2 OF CANCER. ONE OF MY UNCLES DIED OF HEART DISEASE, AND I ALSO HAVE AN AUNT WITH BREAST CANCER. I AM ALREADY 36, AND I DON'T WANT TO DIE AT A YOUNG AGE BECAUSE OF ANY OF THESE DISEASES. I'M HOPING THAT BY BEING BANDED IT WILL REDUCE MY RISK. ANYWAY, THIS WAS SUPPOSE TO BE A QUICK REPLY, SORRY IT IS SO LONG. ANYWAY, BEST OF LUCK TO YOU ON YOUR JOURNEY. HAVE YOU DEFINITELY DECIDED THAT YOU WANT TO GET BANDED? IF SO, I WISH YOU THE BEST. KEEP US POSTED. SWEETY

low profile mini port
Just kind of curious as to what a low profile mini port is. How is it different from other ports, and does it affect the weight loss in any way? Thanks ahead of time for answering these questions. Sweety

Help with Nay-sayers
I also agree with everyone. When I first told my husband I wanted to be banded, his first response was "you aren't even fat you don't need to do anything". It's funny, that other people, such as the people that love and care for you always see you a bit differently than we see ourselves. I know I am overweight, and that the band would be the safest thing for me to lose the weight and actually keep it off. It turns out he was afraid about the whole thing. I asked if he would go to a seminar w/me, and he agreed. Now, he is my biggest supporter. My mom was also hesitant, but talked to her doctor about it and asked questions. Her doctor told her that it has done wonders for people and that it was much safer than any other weight loss surgery. Now, she can't wait for me to get a surgery date. She is still a little scared, but knows that with my diabetes and all, that this would really be good for me. In the long run for me, I don't really give a rats tale what anybody else says. This is about me and my health, and not about theirs. I wish you the best of luck in whatever you decide to do. Sweety

I found out today I must do a sleep apnia test.
I don't yet have a surgery date, but I do have an appt. in the next 2 wks. for sleep study (sleep apnea). Hubby is right though. It is definitely a good thing that they check so much before surgery. Better safe than sorry. I don't think it will postpone things for too long. It will be fine, and your surgery will be here before you know it. Best of luck to you. Stay positive, things always happen for a reason. Crissy

Just Getting Started
Breezyrn, Devana is right. I am also new to this and have found that having a completely positive attitude makes a huge difference. Have faith that everything will happen the way it was meant to. When I first went in, I was told that I would have to do the 6 month diet for insurance purposes. I was sooo disappointed, but told myself that it would still be worth it in the long run. I kept my spirits high, and continued to stay positive. Two appointments ago, they told me that I would not have to do the six months. They had gotten the wrong insurance info. I was sooo happy. So my advice to you is to keep your spirits high. I am a true believer that what is meant to be will be. Sweety
