  1. Dr. Mark Pleatman, great surgeon located in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan charges $11,200 which includes a two-year follow up. He's fantastic!!!
  2. Hello all, My son had his surgery on June 6th and doing very well! He had a one night stay in the hospital was up walking around just a few hours after surgery. He came home the next day and off pain meds. I must say he's followed doctors & nut's advice to the "T", and heeling well so far. He's still on liquids until he sees his doctor tomorrow. He's had no problem getting his Protein, Water and Vitamins in each day. He's down almost 40 lbs. so far! This site has been such a great help with the comments & advice sharing. I can't thank you all enough! We got more info here regarding pre & post VSG than anywhere else. Also, kudos and thanks to his surgeon, Dr. Mark Pleatman, he did an amazing job! I'm next, getting my authorizations & appointments lined up. Wishing you all the very best!!!
  3. His is coming up next week, and I'm in the process of getting a pre-authorization and looking forward to getting this over in mid August. Most of everything I need is done, with the exception of pysc eval. Please do keep in touch and let me know how you are coming along. Best always!
  4. That's great! I'm happy your doing so well, and very glad to know Dr. Pleatman is all that you expected and more. Please keep in touch and let me know how your coming along. Best always!
  5. You look amazing! Great job! When and where did you have your surgery?
  6. Yes, we were both there. His surgery got moved back, so glad it did. Another young lady who was also there had her surgery last week at the "Doctors Hospital" which she said was awful. Her husband could not get her out of there fast enough. I didn't get any details other than the fact that it was bad. I'm very happy that we will be at St. Joseph's. Pls. Keep me posted on your progress, best always!
  7. So glad to here your doing so well, and no drain bag! That' great. My son is scheduled for the 6th, mine will be in August. I'm happy that we will be at St. Joseph's, and hoping ours will be as good a recovery as yours! Keep us posted on your progress. Best wishes!
  8. Hello Tarabby & Malq, I hope your surgery went well, waiting to hear about your recovery. I really hope it was easy and breezy for you. I am also going through Dr. Pleatman at St. Joseph's. Did either of you have a drain bag? I'm reading and hearing about it and not sure if everyone goes home with it. Wishing you a speedy and successful recovery!
  9. Wow, very inspirational! I'm loving thIs! So happy to hear from everyone and to know all are doing so great! I'm just starting my process now, but my son is already scheduled for his very soon. Can't wait till I have a date set for myself. My insurance does cover the procedure; although, I will be responsible for a co-pay. Also, I don't think I'll have to do much more than just a psych visit, everything else has been done and my doctor can forward that documentation and submit for pre-authorization soon. You all have had great success, I hope I have the same. Looking forward to hearing from more 50+ VSG's. Thank you for the site link where all are hanging out! I'll be checking it out soon.
  10. Hi, I'm here and almost sixty. Have you had your surgery yet? Where are you from and who's your doctor? Hope to see many responders to this thread.
  11. Any one 50+ years old VSG out there? If so, would like to hear from you. Please share your VSG experience. Thanks!
  12. Can't believe how this thread turned into a lecture, sorry I even asked about smoking! I thought this was an informative and supporting site, but clearly it's not. Thank you to all those who answered my question regarding smoking, as this was initially directed to smokers only. As to those (non-smokers) who enjoy lecturing other smokers, find another thread to lecture on. Have a nice day:)
  13. I agree, it's definitely ones choice. Thanks!
  14. Thanks Shaonintx for answering my question. I agree, no need for lecturing, just answers. I'm certain I can cut down a lot, but don't know if I'm ready (honestly) to stop all together. At the end, my choice. Thanks again.
  15. I'm a smoker too and want to know more about it. Doctor wants me to stop at least 2 weeks pre-op, it's hard but I'm going to at least give it a try. I don't understand why they will not perform surgery on smokers. They do it all the time on people who have to have some kind of surgery in hospitals. Did you have any complications due to smoking? We're you still smoking before and after surgery? Thanks!
  16. Yes, I agree. Dr. Pleatman is highly recommended; however, I was wondering if there are any other doctors that also offer the same service for a reasonable price in Michigan. Thanks so much for the self pay blog, didn't know about it.
  17. Looking for a very good and successful self-pay Vertical Sleeve Surgeon in Michigan, any recommendations? What is the approx. charge. Thanks!
  18. Good to know, and I'm glad you found the right doctor and that your comfortable with it. Will you be traveling for your surgery, how long will your stay be? It is my son who is having the surgery and I have been on this site readings all I can about the surgery and Dr. Pleatman. His surgery is scheduled for next week, May 16th, he is a self-pay, and extremely nervous about the whole thing, especially the part of waking up after the surgery. His Pre-op diet is 2 weeks and so far he's lost 15lbs. Doctor wants him to lose 20-25 lbs, don't know if he can make that mark by next week - weight lose is very slow & he's so frustrated already. But he's sticking it out and doing the best he can - I'm so proud of him. God bless you all!!!
  19. Who was your doctor and how are you doing?
  20. Your surgeon shows as Dr. Pleatman, what happened? Did you switch from him because of the price or something else? Just curious and cautious too. Thanks!
