HOORAY!! Doing the HAPPY DANCE today! Official weigh in day at our TOPS here at the RV resort. After 2 1/2 weeks on the road, down 3 1/2 lb! I know... different scale... BUT weighed on my Wii this morning and it showed me down 4 lb, so I'll happily take the 3 1/2 official. I was up 1 lb over my ticker weight before we left... trips we took did that! So finally got to change it today! Bought a sleeveless top at WallyWorld yesterday off the $3 clearance rack.... yes, sleeveless! Who cares... hot here!! And it was not a PLUS size... XL, 16/18!

Too many diverse opinions here, so probably not a productive discussion, but Obama scares the sh*** out of me a LOT more than Palin does! He'll move us right in to Socialism. We're going to pay a lot more taxes and lose a lot more of our freedoms if he has his way. McCain is a man of integrity. Obama has rubbed shoulders with unsavory characters for most of his adult life. The facts are out there.. do the research.

starting BMI over 50? come on in!
Wishing you the best of luck. BMI of 50 or less!! Wow! That's a tall order! Mine was about 64 at my initial pre-op consultation. My surgeon told me to lose 10% of my body weight and try to get my BMI down to 60. I did get my BMI down to 60 by next pre-op appt, but not the 10%. I think I lost about 18 lb. Plus my age was on the borderline of what he was comfortable with, so I was pretty BLESSED that he agreed to do it! And that Medicare did not protest either!

Hi, I don't like Obama or Biden. I think Palin is a breath of fresh air. I really like her. Earl just went to pool/hot tub. I opted out. Not motivated. Sluggish tonight and my back hurts... twisted it funny & strained a muscle this morning.. just getting dressed! Been bothering me all day.

I'm impressed that you are watching the debate!! Me, too, but I"m not Canadian! I appreciate your interest! DH wants to go down to the pool when it's over. I don't feel too motivated & don't know if I have the energy, but I don't think I'm being given a choice. I haven't been counting calories. But I do know I got my water in today. I emptied my Crystal Lite/water bottle 2 1/2 times already.

Arrived in our RV park at Sky Valley today. It's really good to be back! A couple of the year round residents greeted us and were glad to have us back. Others arriving in the next few days and weeks. It's HOT!! Janet said it would be! We're getting settled in. TV was a priority because DH doesn't want to miss the debates tonight. As you can see, I've already figured out the internet. I was concerned about how we'd connect this year! Neighbors always let us on their network, but they have DirectWave dish and it's not compatible with Vista. Since we both have new computers in the past year, we both have Vista so can't get on! Park has Wi-Fi. I think the service is iffy, but so far, so good. I paid for 7 days. If it works okay consistently, I'll sign up by the month. But neighbors say Time-Warner cable is being installed, so... may be changing to that. I'm sure we'll be back to water aerobics in the morning. So glad we had a few days to "warm up" while at our friends'.

starting BMI over 50? come on in!
Thanks! I was so glad to see your post because this thread has not been very active for a long time! I was hoping some activity might get people to start posting again. Those of us with 50+ BMI face a long haul to get to "normal" and have special needs. It's good for us to communicate. Tell us a little bit about yourself. We are "snowbirds"! We live in WA state, but travel south to Palm Springs area for the winter.. just arrived today, in fact. We have an RV, so now will be living in it for the next six months. We have lots of pools/spas here and will be doing water aerobics weekdays for exercise. Can't wait to get started.

Nina, So excited for you & Don! He's been waiting for so long!! Don't worry. It'll all be okay! Take a nap the day before. Maybe that will help. He can drive there, right?? You just have to drive home. Does he have to stay overnight? You'll get a chance for some rest while he's in surgery and recovery, too. Congrats!

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot
Long, Take a deep breath!! It's going to be okay. Enjoy your parents' visit as much as you can. Don't let your Mom get to you. People who are that critical & disapproving are usually trying to hide some deep insecurities. They have to pick at you because they feel so inadequate. Praying that you'll be pleasantly surprised by her reaction to your weight loss!

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot
We're here for you, NaniRose! You're gonna be fine! The band "works" as long as you're willing to work with it. Follow the "rules", exercise, etc. You can do it!

Any one in NW WA
Have you tried the Lean Cuisines?? They're pretty good. I know some of the single gals like to use them.. fettuccine, for one, then add some shrimp or scallops to it for more protein. Make a big pot of something on your day off. Then you have leftovers for your work days. I used to work some grave yard shifts (RN). It's the pits! Hard to get on a reasonable sleep/eat/play schedule when working that shift!

I know.... ONE POT WONDER! I'll be anxious to see the new SuperTarget! We had one near us in OK. Two, in fact. Grocery prices not as good as WallyWorld. We'll be pulling in to Sky Valley tomorrow afternoon. I promised Earl we would be there in time to see the debates. We are in Gorman. I missed it, too.... last sentence of her post.... dog they picked is Romeo and she's getting him next week. I forget what they all looked like. We need to see Romeo's picture again. HEY!! Got back from the hot tub a little while ago.. I wore the SIZE 18! Amazing! It fits.

We DID NOT sleep well last night.... power went out around 5 a.m. DH says he'd been awake for a while then. My CPAP stopped and I couldn't breathe so I woke up in a hurry!! DH turned our generator on so he could brew the coffee and make us some breakfast. I went back to sleep for a little while. You all know by now that I am NOT a morning person!! I barely speak in the morning. DH says "GOOD MORNING!" and I grunt something in response! We were on the road a little after 8 a.m. And we stopped really early today... like before 1 p.m., because we wanted to stop short of L.A. We'll deal with that tomorrow. HOpefully, I will persuade DH tht it would not be smart to leave too early!! After rush hour traffic is good! Yeah, Steph!! We all want to say HI to Rose!! Jacki..... So GOOD to have you drop in and bring us up to date on your life!! Sorry for all the drama, but sounds like you're getting back on track! We came down 99 from Visalia. Now on the down side of the Grape Vine, soon to be in L.A. city limits. So we are having a leisurely afternoon/evening relaxing, sipping some wine, commisserating over the stock market plunge, and about to have some grilled steak (mine is a filet). Then we're going in the hot tub... manager turned it on for us. Earl always drives safe. No faster than 55, doesn't fight with the trucks! Yes, we will be glad to get down to our 2nd home!!

I'm here to help...
My 2 Cents.... water aerobics is great. I've been doing it again for the lasts 4-5 days. Last two days... I wore my crocs in the pool... helped to cushion the impact on my knees. I do it because I know I HAVE to do it! But, I also have to admit, I"ve had a lot more pain in my left knee since I started the water aerobics again. No pain, no gain, I guess. I've also walked a lot more in the past two weeks than I normally do at home, which also contributes to the increased pain. OH, I am anxious to comment on the caffeine issue!! I was told at pre-op nutrition counselling, with the dietician, no caffeine!! So, with great pain, I gave up my coffee! (I'd already given up my Diet Coke). i switched to decaf. Then at my post-op appt with my surgeon's P.A., I asked her if I could go back on caffeine at any point in time. She said, "WHO TOLD YOU THAT YOU COULDN"T HAVE CAFFEINE????" She said that was NOT my dr's policy!! GRRRR!! So I went back to regular coffee. I drink 1-1/2 cups every morning, often have a SF,FF latte in the afternoon... but I won't be doing that every day all winter!! Will be lucky to get an occassional latte while in CA for the winter! But, in conclusion.... the caffeine issue is strictly a matter of what your surgeon says! But, I myself do not think it should even be an issue. If your body needs it, have it!! IMHO!!!! The argument is that it dehydrates you... whatever!! So increase your intake of other liquids!! I drink Crystal Lite all day, after I've had my morning coffee! This is sick, but for quite some time now, I've consistently weighed 100# more than my DH!! I am so happy to be closing in on him!! He's lost some, too, but I am closing the gap!! I was well over 300# when I started my pre-op diet. I will weigh less than him one day in the not too distant future!! Congrats!!

starting BMI over 50? come on in!
Welcome, Daqui!! Glad to have you here and congrats on the start of your LB journey! I am 14 mos out, down almost 90 lb. My BMI was 64+ when I started my pre-op diet.

A place for bandsters in their 60's
Things will get better for you. I was banded 14 mos ago. Mobility is better. Iuse an electric handicap scooter. With the weight I've lost so far, I have definitely gained some mobility. I still need knee replacements on both knees, hopefully next year, but walking with a cane more than I used to. God Bless!

Yes, have used the black & white polka dot thingy a lot this summer, especially in the last two weeks! In the pool twice a day since here at our friends, so alternating it with another. However, I am bouncing out of both of them as they're both too big, so have to get a new suit when we get settled this week! Baggy in the butt & boobs! A good problem. Your shopping trip sounds like great fun! Congrats on the 14s! I noticed one of my new tops... that I wore to church this morning, 18/20, is a little too big. Can't imagine wearing smaller than that!? Hitting the road again tomorrow morning, so DH is packing things up... bicycle back in the RV, etc!

Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters
Hi, I've been here off & on. Getting ready to hit the road again in the morning. Had one last session in the pool this afternoon. We brought our water aerobics CD with us so we've been using it every day. We're all warmed up and ready to get started when we get settled later this week. Internet tomorrow will be questionable! Anyone on Facebook??? I've become obsessed with "parking wars", "speed racing" and now "Kidnap"!! I really need to get a life!
