Nope, she didn't get too cold. ..she just lost some dignity! She is somewhat of a drama queen at 6 yrs old and she claimed that the ocean almost washed her out to sea! Thanks for the encouragement! I did great tonight... I ordered Crab Cioppino... sure I didn't spell that right, but you get the picture. A big old bowl of crab legs, prawns, oysters & clams still in the shell. I had to get my hands in there and work at getting the good stuff out.. and it was in a tomato based soup, so I was a mess!! Too bad no one got pictures! It must have been a sight to see. I dirtied up two white linen napkins and then the waitress brought be a bowl of hot water with a lemon in it and a 3rd napkin!! I brought most of the crab legs home to play with later. It came with soup or salad, so my daughter told me to order salad with ranch dressing and she would eat it. Her fish & chips came with soup OR salad & she wanted both! So she got clam chowder and I gave her my salad. You got that right... its getting colder and colder as we got north! Actually, now that we're heading north again, it's supposed to be in the 70's here at the ocean tomorrow and then in to the 80's after that! But daughter up in WA says it's supposed to warm up there by Saturday, too! Pictures are GREAT!! You two look so happy! congratulations again!!

Hi, All! Windy where we are, too, Janet! The sun is shining but it's cool. We spent some time with the kids at their place this morning and then we all went to the beach.. in three cars! Other grandpa is a real character. His truck is about 50 years old and has no dashboard. If you saw this guy coming down the sidewalk towards you, you'd cross the street!! He's harmless, but eccentric to say the least... straggly hair everywhere! He thinks it's still the 60's! Anyway, DGD, 6 yrs old, was in the water to her ankles when a wave knocked her off balance and she was face down in the water! Her back was still dry, the rest of her soaked! I didn't see it... I couldn't climb the sand dune to get to the beach with them. A bumpy ride indeed!! It will all work out. And, it does make sense that insurance should pay at least part of it if your doctor says it's causing these back problems you're having! We're all waiting anxiously to see the wedding pictures!! Hurry!! I am not doing well food wise. .. I know... in the "OLD DAYS", I would've eaten a lot more these past few days, but I just feel like I've blown it. We went out to eat last night... I got scallops, had one teeny crust of bread, steamed veggies... a small cup of chowder. Ate half my dinner and had the other half for breakfast! But now we're going out again tonight. Others didn't go with us last night. So tonight, since we're leaving in the morning and I think the other grandpa and his daughter are leaving tomorrow, too, so SIL & DD thought we should all go out to their favorite place tonight. Seafood place, so there should be healthy choices. This has to stop... and it will... when we're back on the road tomorrow and by ourselves again, but I think I"m up a couple of pounds! OUr scale is so erratic... depends how level the RV is, etc. Last week I was 5 lb heavier than I was on the TOPS scale 15 minutes later in exactly the same clothes! So I don't really know, but I"m worried. These food issues are so emotional!! And I've failed so miserably in the past! It just makes me so stressed! I see my doctor on Monday. Well.... I guess I'll actually be seing the P.A., but that's okay. She's always so aloof, though! It's hard to break through her shell. Hopefully it'll be a good visit. We're staying one night in the RV park not too far away to make sure everything is okay after this fill.

Good Morning! Beautiful sunny morning here in Bodega Bay, but cold! But we better not complain because it's 20 degrees colder at home in WA! Chatted with our oldest daughter online for a few minutes last night and she was downright depressed! It's cold, raining every day and she's on spring break week. It's supposed to start warming up here at the ocean tomorrow, but that's the day we're heading out! We were supposed to stay until Thurs until DH told me yesterday he doesn't want to take I-5 home... we're going up on 101 which means an extra travel day. And also, we'll stop at my sisters for one night and she'll nag us to stay another! So yesterday afternoon I had to completely revise my route on my laptop .... I AM THE NAVIGATOR..... and find RV parks to stay at on the way. I'm getting excited about PS plans everyone is starting to think about! I'm anxious to hear how it goes for you, Karri. Free Wi-Fi at this park. May be the last I see until I get home!!

Wow! You did good this weekend... all that exercise! I've just been playing with the "Wii"! I got my "Fitness Age" down to 76, from a high of 79 a couple of days ago!! I still can't hit those stupid baseballs! We have 10 grandkids! I'm going to try to post a photo of the six who we're with this weekend... 3 from SF & 3 from WA state. We had a BD party for Grandpa today & I ate too much. I broke my THREE BITE RULE and had a small pice of cake and a little bit of ice cream! That was after a hamburger patty, piece of a hot dog and a spoonful of potato salad! Not a good day... but DH's birthday party! Back on track tomorrow!

Wow! You slept in and I was up at 7! You got home early last night! Glad you enjoyed your concert. You look great! DD & SIL got here an hour or so ago with the little ones. Thomas is so excited... there's an airplane calendar, airplane mobile, airplane clock... Our son is building an airplane in his garage. It's almost done. DH took Thomas out to see it but he wasn't that impressed.... it has no wings yet. He LOVES airplanes. He's 2! And a very busy boy. TTYL

Sounds good. Wonder if they are at the Mall of America??? Glad you're doing better and that your dentist is in the picture now. Janet is out on the town tonight... at her concert. If anyone heard from Karri, it would probably be her. Hope she had an amazing weekend!!

So... what's an "OLGA"? Where do you get one?? I do love the Panera Bread sandwiches... usually get 1/2 w/soup. Thought the Sierra Turkey was a good choice... until I bought the book, "Eat This, Not That"!! Now I have to find something healthier!! Hmmmm....maybe I can get off my CPAP, too! That would be nice. If it's the tea flavor that you like, Crystal Lite, and the copy cat store brand stuff that you can get at Albertson's, Wal-Mart, etc, have some flavored teas that use... Splenda, I think... I know there's a Peach Tea and I think there might be a Raspberry Tea, too. Welcome Back, Becca! Beth, Sorry to hear of your struggles. Hope things start going better for you soon! Hope everyone is having a great Saturday. We'll all be anxiously waiting to hear from Karri-- all about HER weekend.... well, maybe not ALL!!!???

starting BMI over 50? come on in!
My BMI finally dipped below 50 this week!! Big accomplishment for me! I've been waiting anxiously to see that happen!

Petite Calcium... ..can anyone think of why they would make their "PETITE" Calcium SQUARE????? Does that make any sense??? Wouldn't you think if they wanted to make it easier to swallow they would make it long and skinny???? Go Figure!! Slider food.... I didn't think about that! That's probably why it went down so easy. And I was very disappointed in the shrimp and crab enchilada! Couldn't find any shrimp OR crab!! It was kind of all ground up.. minced.... and I couldn't even taste the seafood taste. It was another disappointing meal. Going to restaurants is a bummer unless you are very familiar with where you are going and KNOW that you can order something somewhere in the moderately healthy range that is going to satisfy you and not leave you feeling like you overindulged in something that wasn't even good!! Yesterday I had two meals like that... ate things I normally wouldn't have eaten and didn't even really enjoy it! A lesson learned! Man!!! Don't you ever sleep in, Chick???? At the gym at 7:05 a.m. on a Saturday!! That's either dedication or insanity!! See....your brother really does love you!! Siblings can be an absolute nuisance, but.... ya gotta love 'em! Example: My sister ML knows we're in the bay area visiting our son. Her son is a doctor doing a neurology rotation at SFU Hosp. So she's been bugging me... telling me he has the day off tomorrow. Have you heard from him? Would it be too many people if he comes for dinner tomorrow?? (Our youngest daughter & her family... three little kids... driving in tomorrow from Seattle!) My DIL says, "YES... there are already going to be FOURTEEN of us for dinner!" But we didn't tell ML that because then she would be really pissed off at me! SIBLINGS!! Getting along with them is one of life's little challenges! Okay... I am signing off! We're about to go to a Navy picnic... where I hope there will be healthy food I can eat. Then, off to GS's baseball game! I hope he actually gets to play! If I'm going to freeze my butt off sitting outside watching a baseball game then it better not be for nothing!

Ditto...I once in a while eat some bread... usually a slice of that 45 calorie Sara Lee bread. toast it, slice it down the middle to make two for a sandwich, but not very often. I have had 1/2 Panera Bread sandwich once or twice. Ate it very slowly and it went down okay. But, bread is just not worth "wasting" the room in our little tummies! That flat bread "Sammie" I had at Quizno's yesterday... so doughy and 1-2 little slices of shaved turkey... not enough protein. A real wasted meal! Better to totally avoid the bread, as you say!

I'm back. Busy most of the day, home for a little while this afternoon and then out to dinner with our son & his family.... Mexican. Brought half of mine home, as always. Yes, I'm afraid "Peaches" will always be "Peaches" to us!! Today's "Wi Age" is back to 77! Did I report that already??? But my knee is killing me... too much bowling, tennis and baseball today! Trying to improve my stats! I had a great game of bowling with only one open frame, one strike, the rest spares... I think I ended up with about 170! but... like I said, my knee hurts, AND my shoulders and neck!! Too much "Wi" today! Don't understand why when out with family/friends, I can eat more than if I"m just home with DH!?? This morning I almost lost my vitamins, Rx pills while drinking my coffee.. don't know if I was trying to gulp my coffee too fast because DH was fixing me an omelet or what... but closest I've ever come since surgery to actually losing something... I had a bag in my hand ready to catch it all! I was sure everything was coming up. But then tonight when we went out to dinner... I ate a seafood enchilada... small, and half my black beans and rice and still really didn't feel full! I was satisfied, and I knew I needed to stop, so I did. But I bet I could've easily finished the rest! Why???? Puzzles me.

Thanks to all of you for all that you shared. Still a little weepy occasionally, but kept in close contact with my sisters and my Mom all week, so that was somewhat of a comfort. Wake and funeral were attended by upwards of 300 people! Quite a testimony to who my Aunt Genny was!! I know she is at peace and free of all the pain and suffereing and safe in the Father's arms.

Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters
Janet, You're the one with the track record... stick to your guns!! And CHILL! It's going to be okay. Don't get your BP up over this!! Appreciate everyone's thoughts and condolences and expressions of concern regarding Aunt Genny, me missing her funeral, etc. You all are great supports and I don't know what I'd do without you. Jackie, Eating out is a bummer... especially when you're shooting from the hip and don't have an opportunity to make a good choice as to where to go. We made a bad decision today... went to visit DH's brother who lives only about 5 miles from our son.... they're coming over on Sunday for DH's birthday, but we wanted to spend some time with them without a bazillion kids around (our youngest will be here with her three little ones on Sunday). So, usually when we're in the area, the four of us go to their favorite fish place for lunch. That wasn't going to work today because DH had an appt on base to go for his new military ID card. So I suggested we just come over for coffee in the morning. Had a good visit... decided we were hungry on the way home and stopped at a Quizno's. We RARELY eat there and it's probably been 2 yrs since our last visit so I had no clue what the menu looked like but was confident I could find something healthy to eat. ALERT....I am about to DISS Quizno's...... do you know about these new "SAMMIE" sandwiches they have???? Picture on the promotional looked good... flatbread, meat, lettuce, tomatoes.. so we both decided to order Turkey Sammie's... two for DH, one for me. But when we got them... it was all bread and 1 or 2 razor thin slices of turkey deli meat. The picture shows like 8 or 10 slices!! So our DIL tells us when we get home that there's a class action lawsuit against Quizno's because the picture in the promotion materials shows 5 oz of meat and the employees are instructed to put in 1 oz of meat!! Ooooooo... that made me mad!! And the flatbread was very doughy!! I doubt, after another fill in 10 days, that I'd even be able to get it down. I think I would have been better off with a small sub sandwich! Okay... rant is over. Weather here is beautiful. A little chilly, but nice and sunny. I rode over to the commissary on my scooter and did a little grocery shopping. I am still enjoying GD's Wi... as I told Janet on the phone last night... yesterday I even worked up a sweat!!! I was working very hard to try to get my "Wi Fitness Age" up past my initial "77"!! But I failed miserably because I kept swinging too early or too late during the baseball phase and missed every single pitch!! I'll keep trying. My last "Fitness Age" was 79, so I went up instead of down! Isn't that embarrassing???

I like this!
Absolutely right... the risks of staying fat are far greater than the risks of the surgery! No need to feel guilty...wonderful of your folks to offer to pay. That's great and their reasoning makes perfect sense. This site is the greatest place you can come for support.. Don't "lurk", jump in and join in. I was banded last July at the age of 63 1/2. I've lost over 70 lb. It's slow but steady. And you have to work at it... find a way to exercise even with the physical limitations. I've been doing Water aerobics all winter because we were snowbirding in our RV in southern CA. Now that we're headed home (WA state), I will be looking for other ways to exercise that won't tax my knees. Also seeing an orthopedic surgeon later this month to see what can be done about the knees. My Two Cents.... you have to stick to the rules.. whatever your surgeon's guidlines are, and you have to find a way to exercise even if it's just sitting in your chair lifting 2-3 lb weights or cans of Soup or whatever.... move, move, move! I read that even the simple act of standing to your feet will release an enzyme that burns calories! Best of luck to you!

A place for bandsters in their 60's
Don't know if you were talking to me or someone else, but, yeah, the weight loss is slow but steady and that's okay. I'm feeling great! No problems at all, getting around better, happy to see my clothes all baggy and needing to shop for new ones!

Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters
Gee.... where is everyone this morning?? You're doing so good!! So close to your goal and doing so great with your exercise. That good lookin' trainer has got to be a motivator in itself!! You definitely need to keep him! That reminded me of an incident from a couple of years ago. My niece had started dating a guy (she's a single Mom), and after a month or so she decided she better tell her little girl who was about 8 at the time. So she says, "Emma, I'm dating a native American guy." And with no questions or further discussion, Emma says, "Can we keep him???" I got such a kick out of that! I often think of it! Your potato salad sounds wonderful..... except for the olives! I'd be picking them out! Feeling a little weepy this morning, especially when I first woke up, knowing everyone was at Aunt Genny's funeral. I wish there was some way I could've gone... any time but these two weeks when we're on the road!! My Mom & sister said the wake was PACKED OUT yesterday.... my sister estimated 300 people were there! She was a much loved lady who never let any grass grow under her feet!! Until she was too sick to do it, she was volunteering for Meals on Wheels, ushering at a place called Art Park up near Niagara Falls where they do outdoor concerts in the summer, involved in TOPS, investment club, etc.! She & my uncle organized about 6-7 family cruises... aunts, uncles, friends. Whenever we were in port, while most of us were out riding a tour bus somewhere, Aunt Genny would be parasailing, scuba diving, etc. When we took a bus out to see a glacier in Alaska... she took a helicopter ride and landed on it!! I take comfort in the way she lived life to its fullest! We had lots of great times together. Amen. I'll get off that subject. Hope everyone is having a great day. We are looking forward to spending this weekend with our son and his family and then on Sunday, our youngest daughter and her family will be arriving. We're going to have a fun time!

Oh, boy!!! My THREE BITE RULE will be really hard if there's potato salad around!! Especially if it's homemade!! Which I guess isn't likely these days. Everyone buys the potato salad in a tub and that's not that great! Potatoes are one of my really big weaknesses!! We stopped at Wal-Mart for a potty break today and DH went in to get himself some chips. It was lunch time, so he wanted to know what I wanted. I thought it was a Supercenter, but it wasn't. I told him to get me a sandwich of some kind. But there weren't any so he went to the McD's inside and brought me TWO snack wraps! Needless to say, one is still in the fridge! I can barely get one down, and that's with peeling off some of the tortilla and throwing it away. Unfortunately, he got crispy and not grilled. I know the grilled ones are 270 calories. I was going to mix a can of tuna last night & stick it in the fridge for today. I should've done it. Oh, well. Not too bad of a food day considering we were on the road.

That's a GREAT NSV!! My DH went to Costco after we got here this afternoon. .. my list: smoked salmon and a little tub of alouette LITE for my snacks! We are developing some better habits, aren't we!! Good for us!! Wonder where Janet is tonight?? Janet, did you go to the support group meeting last night?

Excellent idea to get these problems documented. Insurance should pay for some of that PS with problems like that. I was having a problem last month... not my stomach but under my boobs. It was horrible. First itchy, then burning. I tried some Rx creams I had with no relief... like you say, kept it moist and that was part of the problem. Then I remembered this Naftin gel my PCP prescribed before we left when I was having skin problems. That nipped it in the bud in about a week using it twice a day. The Naftin gel, you rub it in and it keeps your skin dry. It worked great.

Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters
Wow... You're right... what a stupid reason not go give her the fill!! It didn't dawn on me until you said it... the band has been there all along!! Okay, I'm going to log one exercise!! I had a nice compliment from my son when he got home from work. He gave me a hug & said, "wow, you're getting skinnier every time I see you!" And we just saw them about 5-6 weeks ago when they came down to PS for kids' spring break. I'll have to see if Rachel wants to take me on for boxing! I think I can beat her at bowling with a little more practice! I bowled for a LOT of years so I just need some more practice to perfect hitting the pocket! No need to apologize for reminding us about that! That's a great idea! One of our granddaughters let her hair grow out, then got her senior pictures taken, and then went and got a haircut and donated the hair to "Locks of Love". I was pretty impressed with that. At our GS's graduation last June one of the class valedictorians gave her speech and while she was still at the podium, she got out a big yellow envelope and a pair of scissors and she cut her ponytail off right there at the podium and put it in the envelope for "Locks of Love"! OH.... CHECK THIS OUT!! My weight went down about a lb. today so I updated my ticker. And I just noticed that my BMI finally went below 50!!!! WOO HOO!! I've been waiting and waiting to see that happen and then I almost missed it!

I just made our Amtrak and Homewood Suites reservations for July. We're REALLY going!!
