I was never obese as a child. I would gain 10-15 pounds each winter and lose it in the spring/summer. Working full time, being less active year round, the pounds slowly came on and stayed....this started in 1986. I have tried many diets over the years and have yoyo'd my way to 244 pounds. In 2006 I began researching weigh loss surgery. I didn't like the RNY/DS due to malabsorption and dumping.....not to mention rerouting intestines. I was leaning towards the lapband. However, that little voice inside my head kept saying "you can do this on your own". In March 2013 I met an acquaintance who looked better than I had ever seen her..... she told me about VSG...and I went to work researching it. I went to the informational session her doctor had in April. That little voice told me "you can still do this on your own" But the scale just isn't budging. It is now the end of June, and I am going through the process to be approved by my insurance--that little voice has quieted, but I am still following my doctor's diet and exercising 5 days a week. For over two months I questioned having the surgery.....am I nuts? I'm going to let someone cut out part of my stomach?!? What about the loose skin, the hair loss, and all the things I would give up?--I was driving my husband crazy, so I stopped discussing it with him, and just told him when I had appointments. I kept flip flopping about WLS from one day to the next... One day we were sitting in the dining room, and my husband started his "inquisition".....questioning me about the surgery and long term consequences........in a kind way.......I was pretty much explaining and defending the answer to "why weight loss surgery?".....when we were done, he was convinced that I had indeed done my research, had a good idea of what was in store post op...the good, the bad, the ugly.....I told him to be prepared....the first month will be hell. LOL And, he fully supports me. So, onward and upward.......one more appointment to go (hopefully)....
