  1. Time to change that screen name to Skinny Girl All Around!
  2. Debi-- So very happy and excited for you!
  3. Get off the scale and go by how you feel and how your clothes fit. Weigh no more than 1X/week. I know it is tempting to base your loss on the experience of others--believe me, I've been there. But this is not like it was pre-surgery. You won't fail this time. This is not a race and there is no finish line. You will get there. Believe in yourself and your very brave decision to have this surgery. You got this!
  4. Ummm... well, let's see. Last night I ate Pirate's Booty for dinner. Ho hum. Not always easy to counter PMS--and last night was a prime example for me. Find a chocolate protein bar you enjoy, and leave room in your calorie restrictions for a little treat. Exercise more. At least your binges will be smaller post-op!
  5. Alopecia has got to be hard, especially for women. I really think you should go see your dermatologist and determine if this is really what is going on with you. If so, no--the hair won't grow back. And surgery certainly doesn't help matters in the hair department. Have you spoken with your dermatologist/endocrinologist about a different professional hair piece/wig (often covered by insurance) for conditions such as those you mentioned? They are made of human hair and it would cut down on the stares. They look real! I know it is certainly not ideal, but the bottom line is this. WLS will save your life. If you are healthy now, it is temporary. Better to be healthy and bald than a corpse with hair. Sorry to be so blunt, but it is the truth. And you will look so fabulous to boot!
  6. I suffered from all of these comorbidities prior to surgery. My Type I diabetes is now controlled, I am off cholesterol and blood pressure meds., and I am having a sleep study again soon to make sure my sleep apnea is gone. Hallelujah!! Healthy new me!
  7. What is a mini gastric bypass? The name alone is problematic for me.
  8. My first detection of AFib was 1 week before my scheduled surgery, which has to be delayed 5 months. Total bummer. At any rate, as of today I AM OFF DILTIAZEM!!!!!! WAHOOO!
  9. ALWAYS on Weight Watchers, South Beach diet, yeast-free diet, returning again and again to Weight Watchers, constant check-ins with my dietician. Yadda yadda yadda.
  10. Well, my pump malfunctioned yesterday and I didn't realize it until the symptoms appeared. Super thirsty, aches, exhaustion, stomach cramps, nausea. Checked my blood and it was 400. great, huh? Checked my urine, high ketones. Called the doctor and spent the rest of last night fighting the symptoms while fighting the evils of Type I. Today I still feel exhausted, foggy, and weak. Aside from that I feel pretty defeated and a little blue. I know it is all part of the physical toll it has taken on me in the past 24 hours, but I am at work and realize I probably shouldn't be. Could use a pep talk form those who "get it". Best, Amy
  11. Type I diabetics have no insulin-producing cells in our body. It is a completely different disease. I assume your nurse was a Type I.
  12. Great story! Thanks for sharing. I hated knowing I was obese too. The word has a sting to it.
  13. I'd like to be an 8. Oh ooops! GUY MEMBERS. Good reading, Amy!
  14. I am surprised you can drink so fast so soon after surgery. Has it been that way since day 1? I am not sure why you are so hungry, other than what is often called, "head hunger". In other words, are you really hungry, or is it your mind, so used to relying on food that it tells you you need to eat. I would recommend talking to your bariatric team and getting some therapy around food issues, if you haven't yet. It helps!
  15. I try to keep under 800, and when I average under 800 with carbs under 60, I lose really well.
  16. Congratulations! Happy 1 year! Congratulations!!!
  17. Warm herbal tea was my best method of getting Water in. Still is, some days. Take tiny sips and keep your fluids with you at all times. It gets easier to drink as every day passes, so don't worry, it won't always be like this!
  18. I am on the Mirena too, and have been for about 7 yrs. I love it. No periods and no crazy side effects.
  19. You need to sip, sip, sip, otherwise you will feel pain. It does get better! I am 5 months out and can drink normally.
  20. Oh the meds! Ugh! I take diltiazem to slow my heart rate and I have CRAZY dreams as a side effect. Can't wait to get off that stuff. (Or maybe he will lower the dose at least?)
  21. This morning I had 2 Weight Watchers string cheeses. I can't live without them! I also had 20 cashews. (Nuts in 1 oz. quantities are great for me.) I ate 1/4 of a Quest bar for a snack. And for lunch I ate Amy's vegetable and lentil Soup. (1 cup) I'm also alternating sips of Water and coffee with Silk creamer. Tonight I need to eat and run to Little League, so I will likely have a few Applegate chicken and apple breakfast sausages. I don't have any sugar free popsicles right now, so I may need to stop and buy some. (It's hard for me to live without them.) My sliders are corn chips of any kind. If I eat 1, it's all over. This is sort of a veggie and fruit free day for me, but I hope it gives you some ideas!
  22. It depends largely on whether you are Type I or Type II. I have Type I, which can't be cured, but my insulin levels have dropped drastically, and it has become very easy to control. If you have Type II, it is likely you will not need control meds at all, as insulin resistance drops tremendously and your body still manufactures insulin. The best thing I've ever done for the treatment of this disease!
  23. "The message here is that getting the weight off can have a powerful reversal effect on atrial fibrillation," Day said. "Atrial fibrillation is a reversible condition, it's not set in stone. This is a message of hope for so many patients suffering from it." I hope so! I've had 2 medical procedures called cardioversions (they zapped my heart back into a regular pattern of beats). Not difficult procedures, but being in AFib is no fun! (And it delayed my surgery for 5 months!) I hope it is gone for good now that I am no longer obese! Thanks so much for sharing!
  24. I love the Mirena. No periods.
  25. I had to have a cardioversion after surgery. They didn't have to make an incision for this procedure, but it went fine, no problems. I am sure you will be fine too. 2 very different parts of the body! (I had some ovarian cysts removed a few years back.) Good luck!
