  1. No allergies...well, to alfalfa, but as long as I stay away from Idaho in June I am fine I am leaning towards the comment from Mistysj about the Vitamin B12 The problem is it is not just on my hands, it has happened on my arms and my armpits as well to the point I have created welts from scratching so hard. I just found out that when our stomach is cut off that we lose our ability to create the "Intrinsic Factor" quite fascinating and I encourage everyone to google it Thank you Mistysj!!!!!!! I am looking into Vitamin B12 shots and will be calling my doctor tomorrow to see if they can do them, otherwise I will have to go to a Naturopathic. I have increased my Vitamin B12 to 5000 MG the past few days and the itching has stopped. I think getting shots once a week would be helpful as well.
  2. It will be hard!! Here is a post topic I made last week: I began smoking just before my neurosurgery in 2009. I think it was just plain NERVES. then I got the job from hell at Raytheon in November 2009 and was smoking 1-2 packs a day at times. (no longer work there!) I am now three weeks out. cold turkey. This is a great reminder for me as to why I am not smoking ever again. I am also proud of the fact that I am giving my body a wonderful opportunity to heal itself as I am almost 14 days pre-op. thought I would share because the information is powerful. Good luck to anyone considering the surgery and having a hard time quitting. Do it for your health and your cute soon-to-be-jellybean. Check out this Link and the list of great FACTS: http://www.whyquit.c...Time_table.html
  3. You will not find medical "statistics" ...the reason being is that the medical industry has only done the lapband and gastric sleeve against a five and ten year standard. The sleeve is only 7-8 years out, so there is no 10 year data yet. When they compared the lapband to the sleeve at the 5-year mark, they discovered that the lapband has provided a 50-70% of bodyweight weight loss - in other words, someone who wants to lose 70 lbs will only see 50-70% of that actually happen. That is the standard for 60% of the lapband population so they consider that a 60% success rate. 40% would be considered a failure (that would be me) due to no fault of their own (think slippage, metabolic failure, erosion, etc) At the 5-year mark, the sleeve was coming in at a 75-90% success rate over long term. The 10-year study will be out in the next two years I interviewed my fill doctor here in washington state extensively back in February before making my decision to remove my lapband and have a gastric sleeve.
  4. I would also hand her over your state WAC statutes on FRAUD into her hot little hands and see what she says
  5. you could make an anonymous tip to your state attorney generals office. I was pre-law in college and I assure you, this is outright fraud They will at least have a discussion with her about faulty pretenses, etc. if you do not do it, someone else will eventually report her. It makes me mad to even read what she is doing I would also encourage you to go onto your states attorney general website and begin reading about what constitutes a fraud and what/how the state handles this issue. not only will it make you feel better, but you will know you are making the right decision by reporting her
  6. So before anyone tells me to look on the boards, I have. the closest thing I can find is info from 2009. I have googled up a storm and of course got a bit concerned. Symptoms: my hands itch like crazy! I have literally taken a nail file and scratched and scratched. at times it has extended up my arms to my elbows and then stop. then my leg would start itching and then stop. Then my chest began itching. stopped. Now I have this rash that is right around the area where the port was removed, but it does not itch. I have been keeping the area clean (disinfecting 2x per day with spray), so even that does not make sense. Then out of the blue after itching for hours. It will stop entirely. Has anyone else had this happen? I have read it could be (worst case) a blocked liver bile duct to (best case) not enough fat in diet or being low on B6 & B12 I am currently 15 days out of surgery and following the yellow brick road to the letter. The itching began about 3-4 days ago. If I cannot get some answers I will head to urgent care tomorrow...but it is a 3 day weekend, so I cannot even get ahold of my primary care physician. anyone? help?
  7. I was getting ready to leave as Peter arrived (sunday, May 12). His wife told me that he had to be there in advance for surgery on Friday to be monitored. This was truly their last hope is how she said it to me. I have done nothing but thought of them since leaving. I am so thankful you have updated us on them and I am relieved to hear that Peter made it through the surgery okay. my dear friend had surgery with a 75 BMI and I know how hard it initially was for her. Peter, if you read this...you have had ALOT of silent warriors wishing you well on your journey. keep up with the fighting spirit! Good luck to you too MayBaby I am now 15 days out and feel good. I however was NOT expecting the four seasons, so I think we Americans get spoiled with everything having to be new, new, new all the time. The care of the team was the best I have had of a hospital experience (I should know, I spent a week at UCSF for neurosurgery), 1940s interior or not. Thank you!!! for the reading list. that is fantastic I miss Dr Luna like crazy and would have taken him home if I could have
  8. that looks fantastic! kudos to your lovely wife for being so supportive!
  9. No. I have followed the RULES explicitely - which means sip, sip, sip and Soup, soup, soup the first 20 days. I have no intention on being the reason through my own stupidity for causing a leak or tearing a stitch. Is it easy? Hell no. However, that which is hard only makes you stronger. It is getting "easier" so to speak because I am forcing myself to stay out of the kitchen (which helps). It is only hard when I have to make dinner for my two youngest kids. I am considered the 98% success story as of right now. I will have until Week 8 (I am only in Week 2) for the full report.
  10. I paid $5,500 for a lapband removal and revision to gastric sleeve. I live in Seattle and flew to San Diego to have surgery in TJ, MX Insurance did nothing but play games since last September. I took my medical well being into my own hands.
  11. OMG. She is flying tomorrow after a FULL facelift? I really hope that she has not bitten off more than she can chew. My GF looked like she had a car driven over her for two weeks. She said she hurt to even move. My thoughts will be with you BOTH for a healthy, happy recovery. Hopefully your friend gives herself some time off when she gets home.
  12. YOU LOOK FANTASTIC!!! I think your son's smile sums up everything that you both are feeling. He is adorable
  13. I have nothing good to say about the Lapband You need to give your body time to heal, while i know how anxious you were for the revision, this will give your body time to rest. So rest and begin your pre-op diet now. begin reading all there is to know about nutrition and exercising...educate yourself while you wait. Before you know it, two months will have flown by and you will be sleeved. good luck to you
  14. My buddy went home the first night of my surgery, he lives in San Diego. I am actually glad he did because the one nurse had me up ALL NIGHT checking vitals, which drove me nuts. It was bad enough I did not get enough sleep. It is indeed painfully boring for our support people. I hope someone is able to give you some thoughts as to what to do
  15. There are no words to explain how sad I am for how you are feeling. This too shall pass. This is also 90% of why many of us go to Mexico...myself included. I was told that I had not been "obese" long enough to qualify, after going through 6 months of testing (metabolic and otherwise). Insurance companies in the US will say and do anything to deny, deny, deny. You have options. I wish you the best and do not give up!!
  16. Thank you. As a woman who began smoking late(er) than most, I never bought into the triggers it can do. However, I now believe it is just so insidious. I was walking out of the Fleetwood Mac concert last night and got behind a girl who was smoking. Typically I would walk along and not have it bother me, however, I scrunched up my nose and made an awful face as it wafted into my face. I wanted to GaG. my husband started giggling up a storm and said "I LOVE this new you"...my aversion to even smelling it is directly related to my cute jellybean I call Stomey, because I am convinced my new stomach has eliminated ANY and ALL cravings I have had for cigarettes in the past four years. It has made me curious in my thoughts if eliminating the Ghrelin hormone trigger in our stomach can also eliminate craving for alcohol, (obviously) food, cigarettes, etc. It will be something to see in the next few years.
  17. squats and lunges are the best way to work your gluteus maximus and gluteus minimus back into their normal position. The rear end is nothing more than a set of muscles that must be reconditioned and sorry Sassygirl...just having sex is not going to do it
  18. I didn't follow the Pre-Op at all. I tried and failed miserably. I only had Soup the day before surgery. Be kind to yourself, everyone is different. I was a low BMI at 34% so just realize it is different for everyone
  19. YES. please share names of plastics. Although when I was down in TJ I heard that alma at Ready 4A Change was also setting up for that as well. (?) does anyone know?
  20. I began smoking just before my neurosurgery in 2009. I think it was just plain NERVES. then I got the job from hell at Raytheon in November 2009 and was smoking 1-2 packs a day at times. 21. I felt hunger the first few days. Now I do not feel hungry at all. Are you sure that you are not feeling more of a somatic response to old behaviors? It is comforting to pack a lunch (I used to do) with all the little goodies we like to treat ourselves with. You shouldn't feel hungry at all. I am 11 days out and am not hungry at all unless I am low on protein and then I feel "cloudy" at which point I will grab an Atkins shake or make a protein smoothie. That is how I know I need to eat something at this point. The remaining 90% of the time is just sheer mental lust for food.
  22. I had my lapband in Mexico - 2008 I had my revision to sleeve in Mexico - 11 days post op I have also many of my friends who have either had plastic surgery, lapbands or revisions as well. Even if I had the money and the time to go to a US doctor, I will be quite honest...I would still have chosen my doctor in Mexico. Many of the top Mexican doctors have been performing these surgeries on a daily basis for years. They have perfected the surgery. I was in and out of my revision in just over an hour, which to me is amazing at how just dang efficient they are. I am thrilled with my results and only now wish I had done this last year.
  23. you sound excited and happy. that is the how I felt and I do believe it made my recovery extremely easier. Attitude is everything. congratulations!
  24. I am 9 days Post-Op and am down 15 lbs. I was told I cannot begin 'working out' (high impact cardio, running, etc) until week 6 and then to start out light. I am still on soups, smoothies, etc for another 8 days then I transition to soft, pureed foods.
