    Am i losing my mind?

I was sleeved 6 mo. ago. I have lost about 110 lbs since 1/1/13. I was a big guy like you and had post op concerns about losing a lifestyle. Well, you do....your fat lifestyle . I still go out and eat whatever I want, just less of it. It's really not that big a deal now. I don't drink beer or anything with carbination but i'll enjoy a cocktail. You will just know when that full feeling is coming and you stop. The only thing you won't stop is enjoying your new svelt you. I just ran a 5K and back in January I could barely make it up a flight of stairs. I went from 3X to now XL. Just get thru the first couple months of the adjustment with your smaller stomach then it's nothing but blue skies ahead. Good Luck! It will be all good my man.
  3. I'm 6 months out and have always loved bread products pre op. Post op breads, pastas, rice just don't appeal to me because of the fullness factor more than anything else. I will do a slice of WW toast with almond butter occasionally. My go to carbs would be crackers like rykrisp, akmak, melba toast with some kind of protein (i.e. tuna, cottage cheese, any cheese ). Haven't done popcorn but i plan to soon. I do also have a small bowl of high fiber cereal about 2 times a week . I fortunately tolerate everything well.

    How are the April sleevers?

    Check out April sleevers thread
  6. I'm currently about 5 months out and doing very well. I can eat just about anything but I still have refrained from steak, strandy foods like oranges, pineapple, grapefruit, asparagus etc. I will say i can live my life easily without those foods (my NUT advised me to stay clear of those for at least 6 mos during healing stage) but I want to get a feel from you 6 mos and further out sleevers when you ate anything you wished with no hesitation. And guys this is especially directed to you. What is you current calorie and protein intake if you are keeping track? I don't mean to sound discriminatory but I'm 6'4" 240lbs and would be interested in folks with similiar frames and their consumption. I do exercise 45-60 min a day and eat right now 1300 cals with ~80-90 grams of protein daily.

    100 lbs.....GONE!

Always like the positive feedback. Especially from the ladies. Thanks All for the compliments. I never thought I would go through surgery to be where I am now but it surely is a life changer (saver) and I'm very thankful I've had no real issues like from some I've read. Modern medicine, good Doctors and work on my behalf has made my 2nd half of life horizon so much brighter!

    Breakfast suggestions

Try chia seeds in the yogurts. It boosts a bit of protein as well as adding a different texture. Suggestion; mixed them in the night before giving it a tapioca feel if that appeals to your tastes.

    orange juice

Have a small glass you'll be fine. It will curb your craving, give you some vit. C then back to your plan. There is added sugar in juices of course but it won't sabotage your LIFELONG journey with your sleeve. We need to remember that this path we chose has changed us permantly and we need to now be more decisive in our choices from now on but not to deny us the good things God has provided for us to enjoy albiet in much smaller doses.
  13. They have C25K music programs that can make the sessions not so lonely. I listen to a indie christian program so i don't have to look at my watch during my walk/jog intervals. Very cool!
  14. Jan. 1-344lbs. Surgery 4/9/13- 319 lbs. Today 7/25/13- 255 lbs. Since Surgery- lost 64 lbs in 15 weeks Since 1/1/13- lost 89 lbs! Feeling Great! Im on week 4 of the C25K program and planning to run a 5 K mid Sept. BTW- i have not actually ran before this in 10 years! The sleeve has changed my life.

    Waiting to drink after food

My Doc suggests small sips between bites to help food go down. This really has not been that big of a deal. Im 15 weeks out and i drink about 4oz right before i eat and drink about 10 min after. While eating, sips or nothing is really not an issue since i focus on the food.... Yummay!! I think we tend to over analyze everything little thing we ingest as new sleevers. Our bodies (stomachs included) adapt very well to its new changes. We just have to take things slooooow.

    Gout Attacks Post Op

I had surgery 4/9/13 and experienced gout attacks a few times since. I'm currently on cholchicine and it clears it up in a couple of days. Its very frustrating because im not ingesting anything i did before to bring on flare ups i.e. Fatty foods, alcohol, seafood. I did not realize that weight loss would have gout as a byproduct . Im going to go on allopurinol in a couple of weeks after the attacks subside and stay on it for about 6 months until my weight has stabilized. I'm down 80 lbs. Since February and life as a sleever has been uneventful aside from this gout issue. Currently dealing with this problem has disrupted my exercise program (c25k) otherwise I feel great!
  17. 6 weeks out I was still on soft foods. So as far as travel easy to eat items i recommend string cheese, small 4oz cans of tuna, apple sauce, 12 oz muscle milk portein drinks (chocolate very tasty . ) Sit down hot meals....eggs,soups and the like. Personally I would have refrained on any travel plans until i got on solid foods for the convienence factor. Good Luck!
  18. Went to a baseball game last night. I'm 9 weeks out and had my first ballpark hot dog ( no bun) and handful of peanuts! It felt good to feel normal again and not have to take my protein shakes to the game. Thus far down 67 lbs,no issues. Side note; this delicacy will not be a regular part of my diet but we do have to enjoy the pleasures of life in measured proportions. Currently now exercising 30-60 min six days a week. Taking in around 1000 cals/ 80+ grams protein a day. No carb counting. Losing approx. 3 lbs a week.
  19. Sleeved April 9th, down 31 lbs since surgery and 54 overall since Mar. 2nd. Only been walking 3 times a week but planning on adding elliptical and some weights next week. The ride has been rather easy surprisingly only after the first 10 days which were somewhat rough. No vomiting to this point but knowing the full point while eating still a challenge. I'm in the soft food stage still doing 1/2 to a cup per meal for two more weeks then...on to the real life foods . Protein shakes a must! Muscle milk chocolate is this bomb! And an easy way to get a quick 20 g's in a day. It's getting better folks and now the stares and compliments are starting to become a regular thing. Good luck April sleevers, this summer will be a good one!!!

    3 weeks out from

I just got off full liquid and embarking on the purees. Wounds are healing fine and no soreness there. I do feel a mild gut pain and really a constant fullness throughout the day. Im not sure if this is the norm and that Im still making my way through the healing process. I walk about 30 min a day and am looking foward to weight training in about a month. On the whole no real setbacks from the sleeve surgery but this constant feeling in my abdomen. I see my nurse in a couple weeks and ill wait till then to address this if still there. Anyone have this experience?

    3 weeks out from

I took two weeks off, glad i did. The first few days after surgery you can expect to feel bad i.e. Shoulder pain from the gas they put in you, abd. pain from surg sie and stomach pain with everything you swallow. Like they say...it get better after that. Try to walk at least 4-5 times a day for about 5-10min this will help. Always have your water with. I could have gone back to work after a week but that would have been pushing it. Even the first week back after 2 weeks off i was whipped when i got home and my job is not that strenuous. Good luck with the life change!
  22. I'm 4 days out and feeling tired and mentally lethargic. Day 2 was rough was stomach pain upon swallowing anything but day 3 turned aroung for the better 100%. i take 4-5 walks about 5-10 min each day. I still feel very low on energy but im following my Dr's diet to the tee. I feel maybe im not getting enough Protein by reading others posts. Here is my current phase one full liquid diet. 3 tbsp cream of wheat 4 oz Protein shake 3 tbsp creamy Soup with tspn powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury powder 4 oz protein shake 3 tbsp soup Occasional sf Jello, popsicle. Getting about 40-50 oz Fluid as well. I have to follow this for first 3 weeks. Im not hungry but just feeling dull and sluggish. What post op diets if different from this have any of you been on.
  23. Gentlemen, I've been a man's room browser for weeks now (don't like how that sounded) so I felt it was time to sign inand introduce myself. I started this process 4 months back to get insurance coverage and there I weighed in at 342 lbs. I've been thinking about a band at first but since getting on here and speaking with my surgeon getting a sleeve seems like a no brainer. I know is by no means going to be easy but not many good things in life are without the effort. I do want to say I've appreciated the topics and brutal honesty that goes on here and I plan to be an active participant to help others along the way. So with all that said I'm about 2 1/2 weeks out from the "Big Day" and I start my full liquid diet today! Wish me luck guys and gals. Oh I was reading a post about a fellow sleever just got his done for March Madness I hope all went well there. I hope you didn't have New Mexico in your pool though I find out I get Master's golf on while I'm recouping so it's all good! I'm ready,I'm pumped and I'm looking forward to this new journey for life. I'll be in touch fellow sleevers, Bruce
