    Starving!

I've heard it mentioned before about making sure what your eating isn't too high in sodium and drink water like crazy. Most women fluctuate with their cycle too. All you can do is eat protein first! Are you eating until you feel full before stopping? I'll be 7 weeks out thur. and am trying to navigate this sleeve like everyone else! lots of trial and error.

Preop diet question... 6 days to surgery....

I'm 5 weeks out down 34lbs. I had a one week pre-op diet, with just shakes-nothing else. I remember with my band it was 2 weeks prior, only shakes. All surgeons are different. No regrets! Pain was tolerable. I took pain meds the first 24hrs after surgery and then stopped. I was sore, but didn't feel I needed medication. I have had zero, zip, zilch issues. Gotta work at getting fluid and protein in the first week like its a full time job! I had a small hernia repair and have not had heartburn since! I can't tell you how wonderful that has been! Oh, I have had one issue I guess, I'm now sensitive to milk, lactose intolerant. Only with milk, not all dairy. If I take a lactaid pill beforehand, it's all good. Best wishes for your recovery!

HAVING BAND REMOVED ON WED..OCT 9TH OMG!

I did gain about 18lbs between dec-sept. It could've been so much worse, but I had already gained a lot back with the band so I was starting out heavier anyway. So far I've lost 28lbs in 28 days (I weigh in on thurs). Try to stay busy!! Talk to a girlfriend, take a walk, making small substitutions make a difference!

HAVING BAND REMOVED ON WED..OCT 9TH OMG!

Of course we have to chew chew chew, and instead of 3 meals (what I was recommended with the band) the sleeve is 5-6. Protein first, veggies second. I was on liquids one week before surgery and 2 weeks after, then progressed to puréed food for a few days and now I'm on soft foods. No vomiting or things feeling stuck and I have tolerated all foods thus far.

HAVING BAND REMOVED ON WED..OCT 9TH OMG!

My band was taken out in December. I had it 6 years. I had no complications what so ever! I know there was some scar tissue, but I actually went home that day. I was sleeved 9/12 and so far it seems like the sleeve is as great as the band was supposed to be, but wasn't! Best of luck to you!

    I Want to throw things!

I can relate! I had my band for 6 years and I'm 3 weeks post op today! I think it's improving everyday though, so that's good!! Hang in there....it'll all be worth it.

Wonderful results!! . Give yourself a pat on the back!
  11. My surgeon also suggested bypass for me because of GERD and I am taking the gamble with the sleeve. I've heard it can get worse, it can get better and it can stay the same. My issues are completely weight related, I virtually have none when at a healthier weight. I've managed it thus far and if it does come to worst case scenario I guess I'd think of revising to the bypass. My surgeon is doing the procedure I've decided on, you should still be able to use the surgeon you want regardless of what he/she recommends. Good luck to us all!!
  12. My surgery is sept 12th too! Ill start my shakes tomorrow.

    Surgery tomorrow!????

    Happy healing thoughts your way.....
  17. Had my pre-op appt with my pcp today. First thing she asks is why I'm not doing gastric bypass, as it has better results. Not only was she not kind and helpful in my appt, but a tad confrontational and cold. I left that appointment 2nd guessing myself and wondering what medical professionals know/see that the everyday person does not? I should add my surgeon recommended the gastric bypass for me as well!! My surgeon seemed to base his opinion on the fact I have chronic GERD and he said the gastric bypass is basically a cure all for it and the sleeve "could" make it worse. I've heard lots of stories about the acid reflux with the sleeve with the majority of people controlling it with a prescription. Ugh, now my head is spinning!!

someone help me..im craving oreo cookies!

My psych gave me some ideas for my "hmmm, im not hungry, but I NEED something" times. Anything that you use your senses for like put on yummy smelling lotion, smell flowers, chew gum, brush your teeth? I'm not sure about the gum for pre op, but you get the drift. Not going to lie, the line of BS actually worked for me!!

Speedy recovery, healing thoughts sent your way!n
  21. I've had my fair share of losing significant amounts of hair. After each of my 3 children, after every surgery I've ever had, and after a couple extreme dieting episodes I did in my 20's. So, I know I'm prone to it and am anticipating nothing different this time around. I actually even got 12 inches cut off last week to donate before it gets a lot thinner after surgery (in my opinion, long thinning hair just isn't attractive). So anyone do supplements prior to surgery or even after? Anybody found anything that helps or is it just is what it is and there's really nothing that can be done??

Why did you choose vsg over other wls?

I feel so similar! After all my research, I just KNEW the sleeve was right for me. Am I a little scared about the acid reflux being worse? Yes I am, but not as scared as the possible side effects from gastric bypass. I may not be your average wls recipient either. I have a high tolerance for pain, my surgeon could not believe what my X-ray looked like of my band that I had been living like that for years. I just thought well, this is how its suppose to be!
