  1. Personally, I would just tell him. But that's just me I suppose. If you don't want to tell, that's fine, but I suppose you will have to tell at one point or another. It isn't like it's a secret that you're fat, so I don't see why it should be a secret that you are taking charge of your life. Of course, you can always tell him that you are recovering and your tummy is dellicate right now. I would NOT LIE. It will not turn out well.
  2. Maybe she's talking about a Goose egg? If you are losing 1-2 pounds a week, getting about 1000-1200 (or as per doctor's orders) or are a bonafide Turtle, then you probably don't need a fill. We are all unique, and some people may be able to eat more and some are able to eat less. You are losing an average of 2.7 pounds a week, so you definately DO NOT need a fill at this point!
  3. I gained weight between my surgery and my first fill. It isn't that uncommon either. Please don't be so hard on yourself. You haven't even begun to lose weight, since the band is not designed to work without a fill, right? In fact, without a fill it is as if you were never banded in the first place! Be kind to yourself.
  4. Capt'n Jack, I saw that one coming... Excellent work with the CPAP. I'm going back on mine for a while. I haven't been feeling very well in the mornings, so back on the snorkle goes. That's a great NSV Kim! It is always nice to have someone finally notice! You've certianly waited long enough! Shine!
  5. Carbs are very difficult for me to get in, what with the "eat protien first, veggies second followed by carbs if there is room." Well, with this 4th fill, I'm not getting much in the way of carbs. The nutritionist I saw last week said 25 grams of fiber a day. (hello Benifiber!) That is the magic number needed to promote colon health. I'm trying to work in more carbs into my diet though, since that is the prefered food for the nervous system and brain.
  6. Welcome Megan. Thanks for sharing your experiences with us. Your insights into the gastric bypass are invaluable. I think we are lucky to have you and Wendy come here and be willing to share your realities with us, since they are so different from our own, being banded and all. I don't kow how long you've been lurking here, but just so you know, we are an international board, with several very active members from the UK, AZ as well as other points inbetween!
  7. Hello Turtles! This is the official thread to track our NSV Challenge! We had talked about creating a challenge, but I never got around to starting the thread for the challenge. ... Doh! I blame it on midterms... Okay, the Challenge is that each week we recognize at least one new NSV. To get the ball rolling, here are my NSVs for the week: 10/27/05 I am offically no longer Morbidly Obese, but simply Obese. Today my BMI is 39.6, so I might not even qualify for the surgery, if not for my co-morbidities, which are all under control. My second NSV for the day is that I have been invited to dance professionally at a Greek restaurant here in town. It will be fun to be able to put on my resume that I'm a Professional Belly Dancer. Please remember to update your personal NSV lists as well as posting them here!
  8. I haven't and it stands to reason that PBs have the same likelihood of causeing tooth decay as eating, since you are right, there is no acid involved
  9. Sending you white light to protect and blue lights for healing! I'm so very sorry you have to go though this!
  10. *snort* hello? *tap*tap*tap* is this thing on? Heh, my entire journy with the band hasn't made much sense! I stick to a 1200 regeme and don't lose, and I up to 1600 calories one day and then I drop a few pounds.
  11. Welcome to the active side of LBT. We welcome you, and look forward to hearing yet antother male perspective!
  12. sorry John, you are definately a Rabbit! You've lost over 100 pounds so there is no way you qualify for Turtle status! Hurrah! I did start a thread called "Winded Wabbits" specifically for you Rabbits who've slowed down and are perhaps on an extended plateau. There's been a lot of interest shown by Rabbits who would like to join our Turtle Tribe. I figured that I would start that thread so that all y'all could specifically discuss your specific issues, issues that we of the Turtle Tribe just cannot relate to. (not that we don't want to relate to them, it's just that our reality is different from yours) In the last 2 and a half months, you have lost what it took me 7 months to lose so there is no way you are a Turtle (Yay! for you!)
  13. I dunno, I really like to go grocery shopping. I've been thinking about this topic since you posted yesterday. Part of it is that it is very comforting to be surrounded by food. I don't have to eat any of it, but just knowing it is there gives me a feeling of safety. Not comforting I guess so much as reasuring. I am sure part of that stems from my circus freak childhood. My dad would never buy groceries because we "were just going to eat it anyway." Which, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that the whole point of groceries??? There is also the phenomina of what I call "possibilities" when I go grocery shopping. All those different ingreedients, all those different possible combinations of creating new and exciting meals. I have a food hording thing. I'm getting better, but it is still there.
  14. Calling all Winded Wabbits! This is the thread dedicated to all you Wabbits that have slowed down to a more leisurely pace, somewhat akin to our venerable Tutle tempo. We Turtles are so excited for you, for your inital blazing success, and we honestly feel your pain probably better than you understand yourselves. The long hard struggle just to lose a few pounds is so very frustrating. The Turtle Tribe understands that. What we cannot quite understand is how hard it is for y'all to hit that wall of plateau. Winded Wabbits, I propose that you define yourselves as someone that initially lost weight at an amazing pace, but as you get closer to your goals, your loss has slowed down. Your Mission will be to stick together as a group. There is always strength in numbers. As you work your way off your long plateau, you will offer encouragement to each other and chant the LBTSL ( the LapBand Talk Slow Loser) mantra of "It's not a race, it's not a race" over and over again. As well as your very own mantra “We did it before, we can do it again!” The Turtle Tribe cannot elect a leader, and I don’t even know if it is appropriate for one of our tribe to suggest a leader to you. You must self select. We know you will pick wisely.
  15. Look, I had a cookie, you had 3 pieces of halloween candy and Jacqui had some chips. Not a bag of cookes, not a bag of candy and probably not a whole giant bag of chips either. I think instead of smacking you, I shall give you a medal. For a job well done! Welcome to being a human!
  16. Yeah, I had a cookie jump down my throat lastnight too. weirdest thing...
  17. Some feel the port, some use immaging equipment like a flouroscope. I think they go with what ever they feel comfortable with.
  18. Welcome to the Banded Gentry!
  19. well, among other things, a firkin a British unit of capacity used especially in the brewing industry, equal to nine U.K. gallons, a small wooden tub, and a measurement for butter and soap, much like carrats are measurments of gem stones. I'm just sort of feeling lately like the way we weigh is so arbritrary, I figured that I would seek out new and interesting ways to track my weight. Last week I went with atomic weight, this week it's firkins, who knows what I'll choose next??? Heck, I don't even know As for fitday, well, even at my goal I'll still be severely overweight, so who cares what they say anyway! My Spudboy will be out next week and my DH will be here the following weekend! WooT!
  20. As of this morning, I am no longer Morbidly Obese, I am simply Obese!
  21. Guide to Behavior Change http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/public/heart/obesity/lose_wt/behavior.htm This is from the US Dept of Health and Human Services website, the National Heart, Lung and Blood, and part of the Obesity Education Itiative. Please follow the link for the full article. I highly recommend this article to everyone, and no, you don't have to submit a paragraph or two detailing what you got out of the artile. Over the past few years it has become clear that weight is an important health issue. Being overweight is a risk factor for health problems such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and triglycerides, arthritis, gall bladder disease, gynecologic problems, some cancers, and even lung problems. Some people who need to lose weight for their health don't recognize it, while others who don't need to lose weight, want to get thinner for cosmetic reasons. We understand that in some ways your weight is different from, for example, your cholesterol level or your blood pressure, because you can't see what these are by looking at someone. Many patients have had health-care providers who approached their weight in a less-than-sensitive or helpful manner. Some patients may have had health-care encounters in which they felt blamed, but not helped. Please be assured that when we bring up your weight, it's because we know that this is an important aspect of your overall health care. We understand, though, that successful weight management is a long-term challenge. By the same token, we may discuss weight goals that are different from those you select. Weight can affect a person's self-esteem. Excess weight is highly visible and evokes some powerful reactions, however unfairly, from other people and from the people who possess the excess weight. The amount of weight needed to improve your health may be much less than you wish to lose when you consider how you evaluate your weight. If we suggest an initial weight goal that seems too heavy for you, please understand that our major emphasis is on your health and that your health can be greatly improved by a loss of 5-10 percent of your starting weight. That doesn't mean you have to stop there, but it does mean that an initial goal of losing 5-10 percent of your starting weight is both realistic and valuable. Behaviors That Will Help You Lose Weight and Maintain It Set The Right Goals Effective goals are 1) specific; 2) attainable; and 3) forgiving (less than perfect) Nothing Succeeds Like Success Success (But Not With Food) Balance Your (Food) Checkbook Avoid A Chain Reaction You might then try to sever the association of eating with the cue (don't eat while watching television) Get The (Fullness) Message
  22. good luck! I'm a major dentist wuss myself... Nothing quite like being told "you are numb enough and stop being such a baby..."
  23. Pamela, that will explain it all right. since I've been banded, I almost never ever use my puffer. This is really significant because before banding I was getting nebulizer treatments several times a week.
  24. Welcome to the Turtles, Angeleyes! I understand how you feel. I've lost 23 pounds since March 14th...
  25. Not the dreaded "Blarg!" No! not that! One of the things to keep in mind with these types of scales that use electrical impeedence is that your hydration level is very, very important. I can't account for the apperent weight gain
