  1. Thanks for posting this Kare <3 Bear. I know that we have several folks here that weigh several times a day, while I'm at the other extreme and I never weigh myself. Some of the folks who weigh frequently are turtles while othes are rabbits. Until They conduct large scale experiments scales and weight loss there is no way to get any sort of real understanding. I've only had a year of statistics and I could make the numbers do anything I want. With a sample size of 8 people, one cannot conclude anything about anything except these 8 women.
  2. Frell! that's terrible news Jonathan. It may be unlikely that it fixes itself, but don't forget, someone always wins the Lotto, as unlikely as that is too. sending you the best
  3. wow, we are down two weeks into this challenge Kare! Yesterday I walked and danced for myself. I'm up 5 pounds, so I'm back where I was in July. My body fat percentage meter is back in ID, so I don't know if I've put on muscle or gained back fat.
  4. Hey gang, I just want to share some thoughts on the subject of good aftercare. First off, I think the clinic that I used is just great, my problem is that I don't live close to my clinic. I live in another state entirely for most of the year while I attend school, and I only get back a very few times a year. I have been getting fills at a sort of local hospital. But the radiologist doesn't have any experience with the band, other than me. Oh the joys of being a ginnie pig. Most people have just wonderful success with just one or two fills, and they don't have any complications. But there are those that do have issues. Part of my problems have nothing to do directly with the band, but they have had a negative impact, which I didn't foresee. I had really bad gyn issues that started the week after I was banded. Nothing to do with being banded, just a coincdence in the timing. I had to have two seperate operations to try to deal with the uncontrolled bleeding, had to go on hormon therapy to try to deal with it all when I should have been able to focus on my band and not my uterus. I was home for the summer, but instead of dealing completely with the band, I was dealing with other health issues. I thought I was properly filled, I thought I had proper restriction, but well, obvioulsy, I didn't. I've been getting fills by someone who in inexperienced. I may have a leak, or best case, the fill person was letting more out than he was putting in. I went to ID with 1.8 ccs and I came home with 1 cc. Because the fill person isn't experienced, they cannot help me with my issues, my questions. I think the problem with getting banded in one geographical area and living in another is that it is difficult to find someone who is qualified to help us and to do proper aftercare.
  5. I do think weight is just a number, which is why I have been using different types of units of measurements to list my weight. we keep expecting that our numbers will get smaller, that they will inch closer to the left on the number line.
  6. I was going to post yesterday, but it sucked big time. I'll be at the Starbucks across from Bell Square at 10:00 am this morning. It's the one right next to the See's candy (asking for trouble? ) I'll call you at a more resonable hour, like about 9:00 am This is exciting!
  7. Maybe because it's a city and not a state? We also don't have any countries listed, so our OZ folks don't get a dedicated forum... Just throwing out ideas

Sorry, can't help with your needs, but last night there were people lined up waiting at one store. They were there camping out in the fog and cold, waiting for the store to open ... They are still waiting in the cold and fog... some of them waited for more than 12 hours You know, I love to game, but I just can't see myself waiting like that. No sirie... But I don't like console games.
  9. oh dear gods no. I am not going anywhere near a store... I can't handle crowds... panic attack just thinking about them.
  10. well, I don't know what the next step will be if I've lost fill. Well, I will need to have something replaced. The first two fills were not done under fluro, but Jessie does not use it. She doesn't need it. Fills 3 & 4 were done under fluro, number 5 wasn't. If it is a slow leak then I it will show up on Wednesday, but I will need to check it also when I come home next in a month.
  11. Hey Trish, at least you know what the problem is, and that is always better. Since you know what is wrong, you can get it fixed. Hopefully you will going on your weight loss kicked in once get this fixed.
  12. I am completely shattered. I suppose that is what happens when you get really stressed about stuff. So today not only do I find out I've cracked a tooth and need to have at least one of my wisdom teeth removed, but more bad news from the surgeon. I gained 5 pounds between fill 3 and 5. Turns out I don't have close to 3 ccs in my band, like I should--there was only 1 cc in the band. No idea where my other 2 ccs went. I go back in for a check on Wednesday to make sure there is still 2 ccs in my band in a couple of days.
  13. Hey Nana~ I'm at home, and Idon't have a tape measure here, only in ID. So I have no idea about my inches, but I just got home from the doc, and it turns out that I've gained 5 pounds, so put me at 242.
  14. Good job! I'm sure you will be great. Not sure what to offer as way in suggestion for waht to do about needing the time off for your son
  15. of course part of my depression stems from the damn scales. I do use my body fat percentage anayizer more often than I step on the scales. I have changed my body fat percentage from more than 45% to about 41%. I know that this is good, my body knows this is good. I am 8 months out, and I have lost one size. I went shopping the other night and was very disapointed to discover that while I can put on the size 18/20 tops at Lane Bryant, I look like I've been squished into a sausage casing. Not a flattering look for me. I know it works for somepeople, but it doesn't work for me. So, I still wear size 22/24 tops and bottoms. Still, after surgery and months of working really hard with my diet, nothing appears to have changed. I cannot seem to get a good fill, I'm going for my 5th fill this afternoon. I have 3 ccs in my band, or at least that is how much has been put into my band. I don't have any restriction. Mike and I went out to dinner and he couldn't believe how much I was able to put away. Yes, it was less than I could have before my banding, but it was about as much as I could before my first fill. I don't know, I had such bright and shining hope when I was first banded. I was sure that I was going to be something like a true size 16, or at the very least a true size 18. I figured that I would have lost close to 50 pounds and I'm not even close to that. yes, I know all about the gains I've made, I track all my NSVs. I have lost 27 pounds, but most of that was Water. This is just hard. I cannot handle that at my current rate that it will take me untill 2011 to lose what it takes some of our rabbits 6 months.
  16. I had mine over last spring break. I started my horseback riding class 3 weeks later. I would have started two weeks later, but I had to have an emergency D&C a week after my banding. The only trouble I had with my band, other than of course being really, really tired my first week was having difficulty cleaning out the horses' hooves before and after riding them.
  17. Hi Diane! How much do you expect to lose, and is that expectation reasonable? You have lost 22 pounds in 2 months, which works out to be well over the 1-2 pounds a week expected for Bandsters. Set realistic goals for yourself, that way you won't set youself up for failure. You are doing fantastic!
  18. today I just can't help but be discouraged. Maybe it's people who've lost 10 times the weight I have in the last several months complaining that they haven't lost weight. Maybe it was going shopping lastnight and today and realizing that for all my hard work the last several months don't seem to have made one iota of difference. I'm the same size in the same stores I started this journy. Maybe it was the main fill person at my clinic telling me that I might as well put trying to lose weight on hold until I finish my degree in 18 months and I can move back for closer support. Well, after I finish my degree it is likely that I will have to move to DC, not back to Seattle due to restrictions from my scholarship. And that will be for a minimum of two years. Once again, I fail. I see my surgeon tomorrow, but I fell like I've failed. My PCP won't prescribe meds to raise my thyroid, because even though it's low, it still falls under "normal." I'm so discouraged. some spokes person I turned out to be.
  19. excellent work Margo! that's what, two in two days? Keep it up
  20. Okay, I haven't actually lost 30 pounds yet. I had based that 30 pound loss on a scale that turned out to be broken, or out of balance or something. I'm only down 27 actual post surgery pounds. I am also including that 30 pounds as being down from my all time high, I sort of feel that including that weight is dishonest some how. Like I can't count it because I didn't lose it with the band. But I can hear several people shouting at me that a pound lost is a pound lost. It's been 5 months since I wrote the above post. I haven't really lost any weight since then. Maybe 5 pounds in 5 months. 7 pounds tops. I had expected to lose 20 more pounds at least since I wrote that post, not 5 or 6 pounds. I'm only down one size. Very discouraging.
  21. wow, excellent work on your lost to date. Have your body fat percentage measured. It may be that you are darn close to your proper weight fat/muscle ratio, and that might be why you've slowed down. My skin is different on different parts of my body too.
  22. when my ex husband left, it was like that. I was blindsided to, but I suppose I had warning, I just didn't recognize it. I know how bad my pain was, so I imagine you are in similar misery. I'm so very sorry to hear about this. Put the food away, it didn't help you before, it isn't going to help now. Get yourslef to a therapist who can help you lean new coping skills for your grief. don't sink to his level, obviously, he cannot be a grown-up about this. (((((hugs)))) even though that isn't enough.
  23. I have a better angle this time, they really are adorable! Well done Pat!
  24. Okay, Thursday I passed up free donuts, and this weekend I've been busily working in my yard now that I'm home. Raking big fat soggy leaves, clearing flower beds, and the like. DH is amazined at my level of energy, and so is son. I guess I'm a little amazed too, since for the last several years the only energy I've had at this time of year has been spent trying to breathe or something aerobic like reading or playing video games. I've gotten used to a more active lifestyle in ID with all the walking and PE/dance classes I attend. I routinely walk up several flights of stairs with my heavy bookbag, where this time last year I was using a rolling bag, and needing to take the elevator because my asthma was so bad.
  25. Okay, I didn't get in any aerobic excersize tht I would care to list in public because I flew home on Thursday. (boy were my arms tired. ) Friday and Saturday I got plenty of excersize between walking and yard work. We have a big backyard and big broad leaf maples. We also have lots of rain, so a yard full of soggy leaves takes several days to rake. Today I ended up with 5 large piles, each big enough to hide one of us under... DH asked boy-oh what has gotten into me...
