LAP band to bypass....?
hmmm. Very interesting. I know that before my husband had his band he felt like he'd hit a terrible low. 600 pounds. I know that before I had my band, 265 pounds, I felt like I'd hit a terrible low. I think part of the issue with this current debate is a language barrier, even though we are all speaking English. I think that most people are naturally defensive of their choice. It's the one "I" chose, so it is the most very best choice for anyone. (I'm speaking in generalities here now) We like to think that our system is the best system, be it schools, religeion, political afiliations, computer operating systems, or the way we wash our dishes. So naturally, it extends to our choice of WLS. I know that many bandsters in their heart of hearts are jealous of the fast lost that the Malabsortive techniques provide. Not all, not most, but many. Hell, I'm envious of the loss anyone has becuse no WLS will work for me until I get the Cushing's resolved. Don't think for a minute that doesn't hurt, but I'm so very glad that I had the Band and not something more drastic to make that discovery. I thnk a lot of the bashing that goes on is partly a case of "mine is better than your (fill in the blank)" and partly a case of the Fox who lost her tail, and of course, ignorance of what it is like to live someone else's life. I will never know what it is like to be New Sho, or Geezer, or DeLarla, or Jachut or Keebera or Paula or Big Paul or Capt'n Jack. Hopefully I will be able to little bits of their lives, to empathetcially understand, jsut as hopefully someone will be able to understand what it's like to be me.

Hatered,toward "fat" people.
it's because gluttony is one of the 7 deadly sins. Seems like it's always been a case of "I be more pious than thou art." Besides, it's easier to get away with your own ... sins if you make a big ruckus about what other people are doing. Slight of hand, distraction...

Shared Laundry Rooms!!!
My college apartment was the same way! something like 40 apartments, 2 washers & dryers for the whole complex. I would usually wait until Sunday morning to do my laundry, because everyone else was at church. That's one of the the good things about being a Pagan, no required church attendence. But yeah, people would forever leave their stuff too long in the machines. I would always set my kitchen timer so I knew exactly how long I needed to wait. Oh, yeah, once I was doing a small load of delicates, and some jerk guy decided that he would throw in his jeans in with my stuff! I about came un-glued!

Letter to all....from LOTSOFKIDS
Diane, seriosly go to the experts. Cushing's is Rare, but Moyamoya is RAW! I know that I had to go out of state to Portland to find an expert for me. OHSU knows more about Cushing's that the famed Mayo Clinic. Please don't mess about. There are times to be a training subject, and there are times when you just don't wanna d*ck around.

hunger survey for my info
Hey Susan! We all know I haven't had any luck losing weight, but since banding, I have been able to understand "diminished hunger." I'm not sure if this will make any sense, but since banding, i've noticed that I really do have less hunger than I had before I was banded. But one thing I have really come to understand are my body cycles. When I have a lot of cortisol in my system, I want to eat everything. When I eat corn products I want to eat everything in the house. I'm not allergic, exactly, but it does make me want to eat everything! Soy does the same thing, but to a much lesser degree than corn.

Yoda, do you have a dog?!
Oh noboubt that he was all the bigger because I was all the smaller, but he was big even for a Newf. My dad and uncle would throw these big logs out of the boat for him to fetch.

Living Abroad Alone
Celest! I'm hoping that you are laughing about this already! I am just picturing the bru-ha-ha that you caused! You continue to be one of my heros, for having the strength to go off to Malawi all by yourself. And people told me I was strong for leaving my son and husband to live in Pocatello Idaho...

Sangria Suarez (2006 Vegas Bash)
oh, it's not set untill the End of August, if I remember correctly. Last year it was Labor-day weekend. Personally, I'm hoping to miss the party only because I want to be recovering from brain surgery! (no date scheduled yet, but I "feel" like it's close!)

I bought WAY to much furniture!
Well, the first room I painted in our house was my craft room. It was a VERY dark room, it go no sunlight ever because of the dense canopy from our greenbelt. So, I painted it in two colors of yellow and white. Very bright, very light, very cheerful! When I showed the colors to my husband, he just about freaked... NOOOO! you can't paint a room yellow and gold and white! No! Just... NO! Well, I sponged the two yellows together darker at the base boards up to lighter at the celing with the lighter yellow being sponged together with the white on the celing. It is such an increadibly cheerful room! I love it. My husband loved it after I finished it. He decided then and there that he would just have to trust me when it came to picking colors for the house. Of course, when I told him I was painting the living room and kitchen dark emerald green, with orange trim, he panicked until it was finished. Now, it's Yes dear. Here's the check-book Dear...

Bad day and now I can't sleep
Yup, you've gotta call HR, and document this whole mess. Check your company's sexual harrassment policy, not that anyone has actually been harrassed, but frequently in the policy there is something that will help deal with situations. I'm so sorry for you and everyone invomeved.

Girl Scouts Rant and Advice
I was a GS too for 3 years when I was little, I still have most of my Patches and pins! I only stopped going because there wasn't anyone to take over the troup when my Leader moved away. And I don't remember any religeon either, and even as a child I was very interested in comparative religeon. (parents were both athiests but sent me to an evangelical private school) I say GO FOR IT NANA~! I was involved with the boy scouts with my Spudboy, and all they want is a belief in some form of god. I'm Pagan, but Spud is agnostic, and DH is a Christian. The girls need you, and the town needs you. I know how hard it is to be in a smallminded small town, but you are strong!

going for an unfill tomorrow
Actually, that's the sound of me blowing coffee out my nose... Yup, completely unfilled, and the only difference I can tell so far is that drinking cold beverages is different and weird. But my hunger level hasn't changed. Yes Elizabeth, as soon as my numbers are all where my OHSU pit specialist wants them, I'll be on my way for brain surgery. They will be removing the pit tumor, but I'm still in the testing phase. I've had some impressive numbers so far, so hopefully it won't be long. I'll be calling Portland (OHSU) this afternoon to get my latest numbers, to see if they have any more information for me.

The Band and your nose
Nope, smells don't affect my band experience, but stress sure does. I'm not comfortable in crowds (to put it mildly) and my DH took me to the IMax theather when The Bite of Seattle was going on. My band shout down I coudln't swallow my own saliva I was so stressed. But lately I have noticed that my sense of smell is equal to when I was preggers. (no! thank all the gods and goddesses that that isn't a possiblitly )

going for an unfill tomorrow
Well, I went in, and had to wait over an hour for my appointment. Not too good because I'm completely manic woman. The good news is that my Band is A-ok! Did the barium swallow and got an un-fill. The doc didn't really want to unfill me, because I don't "look" restricted. I'm not a huge fan of the way things "look" when it comes to the way they "feel." There is a difference. He actually suggested a fill, like that would help me lose weight:rolleyes . Anyway, after explaining the bad, bad nausia, and the dry heaves, he did the un-fill. So, now I am hoping that it will have an effect on the nausia. Hurray happy band!

The answer to why I'm not losing...
So sorry, I have to disagree. If your hormones are screwed up, then you probably won't lose weight, especially if you have really high cortisol. My body WILL NOT lose.

The answer to why I'm not losing...
Janey! I'm so glad you have your answer! Doing everything you can to lose weight, and then not losing will drive you crazy. Hormones out of whack really will mess with you. I think the real question is "why don't anorexics die faster?"
