  1. Tell me how I'm going to eat and how this band will make me feel when it comes to eating? --- you are going to eat slowly for maybe the first time in a long time. You are going to learn what you actually like to eat, and you are going to chew the hell out of everything. Only you can know what it will make your feel like. How has your life been forced to change? --- Forced to change? What an odd concept. I have not been foced into anything. This is something that I have willingly and happily done. Now, perhap, I've been forced to give up my asthma inhalers and my CPAP machine because I don't need them hardly at all. Do you still go out to eat now and then with family? --- I still go out to eat with my family. The only diffference now is that my DH and I share a dinner and we leave food left. No appitisers, no desert (generally too full). Do you have to be prepared to barf at any moment when food gets stuck or is there time to let it come back up when you are ready/prepared? --- the band is NOT surgical buliema. If you are PBing that often, you are too tight and must have some of the fill removed. I am not planning on telling anybody except my husband and one of my sisters that I'm even doing this. Will people know that something weird is going on with me? --- I think if you are secretive, people will know that something weird is going on, but I don't think they will know you've been banded. Just about everybody knows I've been banded. I wasn't going to tell everybody, but my sister told the rest of my family, and one of my co-workers told everybody at work... So there you go. During the first 3 weeks of liquid dieting, am I going to just wish to die from hunger? Or am I going to feel bad enough from surgery that I won't mind it too bad....you know.....like when you are sick and don't feel like eating? :paranoid --- I garentee that if you need the band, you will not die from hunger. I could probably still live for 6 months or longer off my stored fat. Some people feel really rotten after the surgery, some people have a bad time with the anethetic. I personally was shopping the next morning, and I'm not alone. You can look at your liquid diet as a time of hardship and deprivation, or you can view it as a new adventure. I rediscovered how much I absolutely love Soup. Do you have any idea how many kinds of Soups there are???? Of course you don't, no one does because you can always invent a new soup. You can always invent a new flavor of smoothie. if you must have something to chew, you can chew gum. Welcome to the rest of your glorious life.
  2. wow, cottage cheese with apple butter, that sounds oddly yummy. don't worry, you will know when you are full. Oh yes you will. (quit laughin' back there!) You are about to do something really wonderful for yourself. You are about to regain control of your life, even if you didn't think it was out of control. You are about to enter the happy land of "no thank you, I've had enough," also known as Bandlandia. The happy land of "let's walk, it's only 8 blocks," again, the happy land known as Bandlandia.
  3. this is wonderful news! Hurrah! Yay! Congratulations!
  4. good luck Staramorcita! Yes, take the before pix. Oh trust me, it isn't easy. But how are you goingto be able to compair where you'e been with where you are going when you get there??? There are great directions for the ticker at the Lounge area... To to the ticker website, and copy the middle bit of code in your signature.
  5. How is telling an out-right lie not about honesty? I think that if you are going to share something as personal as your vagina that something small like your Band pales in comparison.
  6. oh, I've had my gall bladder removed. It was several years before my band. I never really had a gall bladder atack, it was more as case wehre the doc was pressing on my tummy and I said "OW!!! STOP DOING THAT!"
  7. I'm terribly sorry you felt like you were not getting the support you wanted. Part of support is giving you the honest truth. Sometimes it isn't what we want to hear, but often it is what we need to hear. If you are hungry, EAT. The time in-between is the toughest. The band cannot work without a fill, but if you are not healed, a fill can hurt you. That is all I am trying to tell you. You will get your fill, but you have to trust your doctor.
  8. I gained 3 pounds. I am on the verge of tears. I'm tight, I'm restricted. I'm gaining weight. It doesn't seem fair on any level. I know that the scale is a deceiver. I know it lies. I fit into a size 18 pair of pants and a 1X shirt, but that doesn't mean I am feeling good about myself. Stupid scale. stupid depo drevera.
  9. Nana~ had posted a site/ebay store where they sell custom made leather corsets and dresses. Nuff said.
  10. there is some current research that is indicating that soy is benifical for women, especially as we approche menipause. And dont' forget the media hype!
  11. vinesqueen replied to NJChick's topic in The Lounge
As my dog gets older and older, I find myself drawn more and more to old dogs. Yeah, I know, weird. Driving my son to his girlfriend's house, we passed a couple that was out walking their very old setter. (not as old as my Astro though) I got misty eyed, and made my son laugh.
  12. My guess is that you used a children's plastic pool. That or you used a stake with string to make a giant compas. I love my worm bins. I need to move them to a different part of the yard before I got back to ID. Of course they count Lisa!
  13. Lisa, it is possible that we are related. Or that both our mothers went to The Deprive Institute for the Insane. One of the supervised weight loss things I did removed all food from your diet, and I mean ALL food. You slowly added one food back to see what you were sensitive too. I'm sensitive to corn and soy--they both make me crazy hungry. Flat out allergic to raw bananas and walnuts.
  14. hey Lisa, does it still look like an eye? You could always lie, and say you'd been wounded in a sword fight while you were a pirate. Or a Viking. Very romantic. Or perhaps you could say something along the lines of "you know that sceen in Alien?" and just leave it at that. but I still think honesty is the best policy
  15. there really is no comparison between the two procedures. There really is no comparison between your band and my band, since your experiences are and will be different from mine. Please don't compaire your journey with anyone elses, especially not the RNY folk. You will only make yourself crazy, cranky and cause you to second guess yourself. And as for "only losing 30 pounds"... hello! That is great work and you should be proud of what you've accomplished so far.
  16. very glad to hear you are recovering well! You've been in my thought lately, but don't knw how I missed the thread... I can hardly wait to see your pix! I will probably need a TT and a BR, but my poor DH... He's going to need the whole body lift when he gets close to goal.
  17. I gained weight before my surgery. No worries. they will know you gained weight, they will weigh you before the surgery. Also, there is the possiblity that the two scales don't match up. Are you working on a liquid diet? Call them, tell them how nervous you are. Be kind to your self!
  18. for some people, women in particular, being 5-10-15 pounds overweight has a more severe impact on them than it does for some of us who are 100 pounds overweight. Anorexia, bulima, et.al have terrible consequences. I've watched women in my pilaties class who are just devistated by how "fat" they are, all size 6 of them. In the locker room one day, a young woman was in tears because she'd "gained" ONE pound. I have no f*ing clue about how she felt. I've had men tell me that if I didn't loose weight they would leave me. I told them where the door was.
  19. Wow Kare! That's what I'm talking about! Everybody is an artist! aren't worm boxes just the best?
  20. yeah, I'm not a big milk drinker either. It has something to do with powdered non-fat milk mixed half strength. (Of course, my mother always had whole milk in the fridge that was just for her, we got in more trouble than it was worth to drink it) I don't drink soy milk because soy makes me hungry. Some people who are lactose intolerant use soy.
  21. The basic guides are: 1. eat your solid protien fisrt, then your veggies, then your less complex carbs if room, about a cup of food, more or less. 2. chew the heck out of everything 3. Drink about 60ish oz of Water everyday. 4. don't drink with meals, or for 30-60 minutes after meals (it will wash out the food from our pouch so we will be hungry sooner.) 5. avoid caloric beverages 6. excersize! Get active and get moving, get your groove thing on! 7. get enough sleep! Welcome to Bandlandia, and you've only been banded ONE week! Give it time! and be kind to yourself! Kathy burn that fat pix! Burn it, Destroy it! That fat pix is one of the things holding you back. You see that pix, you internalize it. You say, man, I really am that fat. That becomes your image of you. Do you really think you can fight easily against that??? Put up a thin pix! If you don't have a pix of you near your goal, find someone who looks like what you want to achieve, and paste your head on that body!!!!!
  22. yup, some doctors requre and some dont. It is primarily designed to shring the liver to make access easier.
  23. Uhm, I don't know, if you can't be honest with someone, should you be having sex with them?
  24. May the City in your Wake Burn like Candles on your Cake!
  25. Not sure exactly what you are looking for Kathy. I find that following the Bandster Guides really helps me with my weight loss. But those are all physical, and I am convinced that a majority of this journey is about fixing our heads as well as our bodies, right? I mean, we have tons of people who have lost tons on diets, but it always comes back with a vengence. Why? Why does it come back? Because our head, for what ever reason, needs us to be fat. Not in every case surely, but in many cases. Look at the trouble of Body Dysmorphia--when we are fat in the head, we are fat in the body. Our minds will work very hard to make our reality real. Right now, I feel like I am a slow looser. I know that according to some I'm a zoomer, while compaired to others I'm practicly standing still. But I try to not compair my journy to any other's. Of course, I do, but I try not to. One of the thing I am trying do is to change the picture I have of me. Change my mind's picture. I have a pix of when Spud was a baby. Of course I thought I was gi-normous, but looking at the pix, I can now see that I wasn't. I know that I will never look exactly like that, I'll never look that young, but I figure I can get that pointy chin again. One of the other things I'm doing is teaching myself to draw. It keeps my hands and my mind occupied. When I have a real bad snack attack I try to pick up one of my sketch books and my pencil pod. If I'm engaged in something else, I don't/won't think about food.
