Hi There April Sleevers!
I'm from Philly. I will have my surgery at Penn Medicine, nervous excited!! I had my last visit of my 6 month insurance requirement. My coordinator submitted my paperwork yesterday. Now, I'm waiting to hear from the insurance company, which takes approximately 10-15 days. Crossing fingers, surgery date TBD.

ANY APRIL SURGERIES?....
I'm looking forward to running along with others without being ashamed, bike riding without thinking about what I look like from the back (floating on a pole, because the seat is hidden by my a$$). I so understand Mrs_Ashley, I too am editor in chief of photos, I go through Facebook untagging unflattering photos, requesting photos to be taken over, or stand behind others. Maybe that should be a reward...a photo shoot, or new family photos with your new self!!

ANY APRIL SURGERIES?....
April 8th for me too. So excited! Just got word from the insurance company, I met the criteria earlier. What are you looking forward to doing after you reach your goal (or on your way to reaching your goal)? Be sure to set up rewards for yourself!

Exercise!
Chair exercise, leg lifts from the chair, can lifts while sitting. They are not intense, but the weight of you leg md the weight of the can gives your muscle some work, without putting strain on your body. You may all so try wall workouts. I hope this helps.

Welcome to VST. There is a lot of great information here, it is supplemental to the informational given to you by your physician. Good luck with your weight loss.

How long should I wait to fly following surgery? Anyone have any difficulties traveling on planes post-op?
Thanks, I appreciate the feedback. I travel a lot for work, so I was a little nervous. Thanks again.

preop psych evaluation
Good looking out, my evaluation is next month...nervous that one person could derail dreams, by not giving the green light.

April 11! Confirmed!
I purchased Beach Body's Total Ab Workout, feature Shaun T., he's the guy that created INSANITY...I'm not that insane to try that one yet. But, I do want to build muscle, and work on my core before the surgery, hopefully shrink the flab. Unfortunately, two days after buying the DVDs I was bedridden with a cold/pneumonia and bronchitis, I have been down two weeks...I walk upstairs and I'm out of breath (not normal). I hope to be better soon, so I can shred pre-surgery. Good luck to you!

How long should I wait to fly following surgery? Anyone have any difficulties traveling on planes post-op?
Hi, I have a trip planned 4 weeks following my proposed surgery date. I'm nervous about traveling following surgery, especially being thirty thousand feet in the air. Have you experienced any problems flying?

April 11! Confirmed!
April Sleevers, we are two months out...are you nervous excited, both? I attended a "live" sleevers support group today, it was awesome!! Have you attended one, wht did you think? If not, I recommend it, good or bad, you may learn something. I personally learned a lot and it has me looking forward to the surgery. I truly feel like I have a bit of mental preparation to do, and I'm so looking forward to life after surgery. Black tie affairs, beach parties, summer park events...What are you looking forward to after surgery?

April 11! Confirmed!
Hi JillyDJ, Have your PCP and surgeon document each visit with comcerns of obesity and weight loss attempts. My insurance requires six month of medical weight mangement, my surgeons office has a program and the nurses document everything I say and attempted during the six months. I had to visit my PCP for surgery clearance, and requested my medical records. To my surprise he had documented and noted in my charts "morbid obesity" attempts to lose weight. To my surprise he officially diagnosed me as morbidly obese last year, before I even considered the surgery. When I called the insurance coordinator at the biaractic center/surgeons office, she stated it was great to have the history documented by my PCP. I hope this helps you.

Pre-Op Diet and Juicing with a Juicer
Same thing here, my NUT did not like my juicing. She said it's okay to use the protein shakes or supplements with a small amount of fruit, no mare than a 1/4 cup. It is my understanding they don't want you drinking your calories. They prefer you get protein without the sugars. I hope this helps.

1 week post op before and after pic
I am so happy for you, I am visual person, so I love the spoon analogue. I don't have a two year, but I am going to buy a baby spoon and place it near the stove to remember to eat small. By the way, LOVE your goals/rewards... I think I will borrow that idea too. So far, I have been buying my clothes in smaller sizes ( I can't pass a good clearance rack, so I buy the items... in a smaller sizes). The other day, I purchased a shirt two sizes small, the blouse is so pretty...I can't wait to wear it! Motivation!! Good luck to you.

United Healthcare Choice - 6 month monitoring REQUIRED
Thanks for the feedback. You are right, I'm not the only one incentivized by this process. I heard the insurance administrator for my doctor's office is really good, so I guess that should relieve my stress. I just don't like surprises. Thanks again.

United Healthcare Choice - 6 month monitoring REQUIRED
Anyone has United Healthcare - a six month physician monitored plan is required. I was originally okay with the process, because I was trying to lose the wait on my own before surgery (a little success). I'm nervous, two months before my anticipated surgery...what if I'm not approved??? I'm freaking out!! Anyone has UHC? Did you get approved? Were there any challenges?

Just saying hello :-)
I'm feeling a bit fustrated. I have been working on consuming more Protein via shakes and supplements. My NUT told me she doesn't want me drinking my calories, I'm confused because I was under the impression I would have to be on a liquid diet pre and post op. I was doing so well, getting natural raw nutrients and protein into my diet, now she has thrown me off. I felt great, now I'm confused. I don't like eating meat (I'm not a vegetarian), nor dairy....so, the shake is the best alternative for me to obtain protein. Any suggestions? I am trying to lose weight prior to the surgery, so far no luck. :-(
